5 comments about Lameness: Recognizing and Treating the Horse's Most Common Ailment.
- This book will grace any horsepersons bookshelf for many years to come. Jam packed with information. It will be used over and over, year in, year out. Value packed.
- Excellent book with heaps and heaps of info on lameness and how to treat the problems. Has charts in it as well for you to score your own horses lameness. Has other health complications listed that can cause lameness and syptoms of lameness. I refer to it often. Layed out in section eg: hoof, lower leg, upper leg etc etc so you can go straight to the chapter you wish to look at. Well set out and easy to read. I highly recommend it!
- This book is easy to understand, and describes lameness in easy to understand language. Lots of photos and exrays that explain what they are talking about. I highly recommend this book!
- The book "Lameness: Recognizing and Treating the Horse's Most Common Ailment", is a well-written and informative book. The knowledge presented is accessible to the average horse person, and very extensive, covering just about every possible cause of equine lameness in the legs, hooves, and other parts of a horse's anatomy.
The book also covers methods of identifying different types of lameness, recognizing gait abnormalities, managing diseases, treating wounds, hoof care, shoeing, and available therapies, medications, and veterinary care. Veterinary therapies and surgical procedures are discussed, such as joint lavage, arthroscopic surgery, and the application of casts.

Give a Horse a Second Chance: Adopting and Caring for Rescue Horses
- Although as yet, I have not read this book completely - it has 1022 pages, it is stuffed full of information. It not only covers lameness, but much more besides and is an absolute reference work on the horses legs, feet and limbs in general. The pictures are great and very useful if you are studying. I also liked the way there is a description of the "ailment", diagnosis followed by treatment and prevention, plus prognosis. There are chapters on physical therapies, medications and veterinary procedures. I would have just loved this book in my student days as there is so much detail to study. The chapter on hoof conformation and shoeing options is invaluable. It is very readable and much more enjoyable than other well-known books on the matter which are far too technical. Every rider should purchase, beg, borrow or steal a copy. Phenominal reading.Adams' Lameness in Horses

5 comments about Dressage in Harmony: From Basic to Grand Prix (The Masters of Horsemanship Series, Bk. 4).
- Dressage in Harmony: From Basic to Grand Prix (The Masters of Horsemanship Series, Bk. 4)
Excellent Book. A must have for all Dressage riders. This book has helped me improve my understanding of the proper aids!
- I believe that Dressage In Harmony is a must have for anyone who is seriously interested in dressage. Mr. Zettl starts with a green horse beginning in dressage to the Grand Prix level in clear, understandable language plus good illustrations. I hope to have the good fortune to attend one of Walter Zettl's clinics now that I have "discovered" him.
- Provides great detail, wonderful theory and terrific practical advice. There are some spots where the translation may not have been so good; but, overall this book is fabulous!
- With all of the great reviews and the author's reputation, I was expecting a lot more. I just don't see anything new here, to me it reads like a dictionary on dressage. Fine, but not too interesting. I guess what really put me off straight away, was the the author's claim that horses are not very intelligent, and if they were we would be afraid to be near them at all. And "A horse will never do anything on purpose". I think that anyone who has spent a lot of time around horses would disagree with that statement. For example, if you have ever seen a horse work open a stall latch, I think you might agree that they are capable of doing things on purpose and with planning. From someone who supposedly stresses love for the horse during training, I found these statements quite inaccurate and somewhat cold. I've got loads of books on dressage, and this one would be at the bottom of my list.
- I've been fortunate enough to attend private lessons given by this great teacher and can only say that this is the way I want to learn. He is gentle and encouraging, but firm -- and not a little demanding, requiring us to do our best, and to bring out the best in our horses -- but it is his love of horses that shines through. It matters not whether you are a beginner on a green horse or an advanced rider on a budding champion, he is the teacher you want. I saw stiff green horses relax and blow happily, and nervous riders smiling as they felt the changes in their horses and themselves. The German training system can seem daunting to us Americans used to hurrying along and getting results fast, but he makes us understand how to build trust, and build movement from that. It will take time, but with Zettl, you will succeed, and more importantly perhaps, you will enjoy the ride, and so will your horse.

5 comments about The Horse Conformation Handbook.
- This book provides a wealth of information that I have not seen elsewhere. It enables a very detailed assessment of every aspect of a horse's conformation.
- Thomas has written a fabulous book that digs deep into the mechanics of the equine. I enjoy understanding why/how things function. This book has helped me to understand why some activities came very easily to my Pony Club mount and why we had to work so hard on others.
By reading this you will understand how conformation impacts performance, soundness and longevity. It is well written and the diagrams make it easy to follow. This isn't a light read, be prepared to study.
If you are a casual rider that doesn't request a lot of your horse, then you may not need to know this depth of knowledge for conformation. I find something new to learn each time I pick it up.
Backyard breeders... PLEASE read this book. Bred-to-the-Nines doesn't do much for a horse that isn't built correctly to perform.
- This book is wonderful. It really goes into detail and there is more information here than I will ever need.
- The Handbook is an exhaustive overview of equine conformation relative to athletic ability and stamina. It also appears to be a 'halter class' juding guide. There is an exhaustive amount of information which can make it difficult for the reader to maintain focus on what is an acceptable vs. unacceptable deviation from perfect conformation.
The text is well written and the examples well illustrated, however, in order to be absolutely useful, the reader needs the ability to summarize, overview, review, and focus.
It would be helpful if the author would re-state throughout that her text is written for the 'perfect' specimen and establish that a stated percentage of horses aren't perfect. Having done that, insert a summary on conformation points which are not acceptable under any circumstance; which confirmation points are relatively acceptable; and whether any combination of confirmation points will never be found all in one horse.
- This book is one of the most excellent to have if you want to understand conformation, and there are only a handful on the subject even worth having. I am usually disappointed with the quality and quanity of information in books on this subject and only rarely do I find one that is actually worth buying and this is one of them. It rivals the quality of Dr. Deb Bennett's "Principles of Conformation", usually regarded as the industry's standard on this subject, and it touches on some things that Bennett's books do not. I recommend both equally as they compliment each other very well.
This author is a very experienced horse woman and author who has written several books on equines and many, many articles for various magazines. I've been familiar with her work for years and she is a thorough author.
This book hits on equine anatomy and it does a good job of it. You have to have a handle on anatomy before you can understand conformation and this books takes the pains to explain the skeleton, the muscles, and even equine teeth before it really delves into explaining faults, and it does really delve into faults and it explains and illustrates them well.
The Book is divided into 3 parts:
Part 1. Anatomy and Principles of Conformation
2. Basic Anatomy
3. Head and Neck Conformation
4. The Teeth
5. Chest Conformation
6. Back Conformation
7. Foreleg Conformation
8. Hindquarter Conformation
9. Foot Conformation
Part II. Evaluating a Horse
10. Body Proportions
11. Body Angles
12. Height
13. How a Horse Moves
14. Athletic Ability
15 Type
16. Soundness
17. The Senior Horse
Part III. Appendixes
A. Applying What You've Learned
B. Training Your Eye: Six Case Studies
This book takes you over anatomy, into faults and their pathology and then it has a section devoted to illustrated critiques of 6 different horses. This is a book to have if you want to know what Equine Conformation is all about. It is concise, VERY well-illustrated, and very thorough.

5 comments about Horse Handling & Grooming: A Step-By-Step Photographic Guide to Mastering over 100 Horsekeeping Skills (Horsekeeping Skills Library).
- I needed a book for students getting to know horses for the first time.
This book provided the information they needed in quick and easy slices.
This laid the ground work for more intensive sessions which they will receive later on in their veterinary and general animal care courses.
I am very pleased with this book.
G.Stratton, SGU.
- This book is good for folks who have a basic knowledge of horses but want a little further advice. People who haven't had lessons or are just starting to work with horses for the most part will get confused easily. I got this book for a friend and while there is plenty of useful information tha main things we were looking for were hoof care. The most useful information I found was the section on tying the horse and approaching the horse. This book is helpful but definately not a complete source. We actually got Horses for Dummies and THAT book had ALOT of helpful information... including information on what you should consider BEFORE you become a horse owner.
- I bought this book because I thought it would be just as good as another in this series "Getting the most from Riding Lessons". I was really looking for specifics on grooming with highly detailed photos and step by step highly detailed instructions and tips. This book has some of this.
There's a good section on catching, tying, and handling the horse. There is some basic safety information omitted.
The hoof care is completely lacking. There is only information on how to lift and support your horses feet. This should be a VERY detailed section of the book considering how important it is to a horse.
Daily grooming info is only OK.
Washing section is acceptable to good.
Clipping section is good but doesnt cover special clipping patterns.
Mane and tail care and braiding is good.
No leg wrap information is included.
No transport of horse information is included.
This all said - it's really hard to find a great grooming book.
- This book matches exactly what the title says it is providing the beginner with the basics of handling and grooming on a horse that is use to both (in my mind set it pretains to a very gentle well trained horse that is use to a lot of handling, like someone else stated a sound horse).
The pictures and text appear to be complete on how to do things right and it's my kind of book, no long winded, wasted or unneeded words to make a bigger book thus wasting my time or book shelf space. It does just cover the basics on how to do it (not with a horse that is unruley) and on handling you will quickly out-grow the book. It does contain more information on grooming than it does handling so if you are new at that it should be very helpful.
- I condsider myself a beginner. This book is very simplistic.
I learned most of these things in the first month of taking lessons. If you have a minimal amount of knowledge, this book would be a waste. Don't waste your time or money. I wish I hadn't.

- This is one of the most beautiful books that I have seen of horses. Very well done. If you know somebody that loves horses, this is the book to buy.
- The best art photography I've seen.. A must for horse lovers.
- The photo book Spirit Horses is an must for every horse lover. The photo's are incredible and create or catch a mistical atmosphere as I have seldom seen. The captions are inspiring. Not a book to read but one to pick up once a week for half an hour meditation. Highly recommended
- Misleading - Linda Kohanov only wrote the Intro.
Repetitive photographs and sparse text.

5 comments about Stables: Majestic Spaces for Horses.
- If you want to know how beutiful horse stables can be this is a book for you. Makes my house look shabby. The pictures are wonderful.
A beutiful addition to any horselovers library. Can make a wonderful gift.
Enjoy!
- The pictures are amazing, the stables exotic. This book is different in a sense that it offers horse lovers a chance to see not only beautiful pictures of horses but gorgeous images of breathtaking and pristine stables, many with exquisitte and unique architecture. Information is presented from a unique perspective to those who love the majestic. Good price too ... here at Amazon. I originally saw the book listed for 40 dollars in a catalog and was willing to pay that price, but did an Amazon search and got it for much less.
- the book is gorgeous, just what was advertised. It was a gift for someone is the race horse business; she said the quality of photographs was magnificent adn the accompanying text well-written and informative.
- A great coffee table book for the horse lover in the family. The pictures of these fairy tales stables around the world will make you want to go out an buy a lottery ticket.
- I had seen a brief write-up in a magazine and searched for the book on Amazon. The photography is absolutely stunning. The different locations featured in the book make it interesting and the stables are all unique. Visitors to our own farm immediately pick-up the book. And, it was a great hit with our Pony Club kids. I would recommend this for anyone who loves horses or has an interest in architechure.

5 comments about UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Book of Horses: A Complete Medical Reference Guide for Horses and Foals.
- ý havent got a problem about you.
because your sevice is very perfect ý liked it.
so ý will be contunie buying some books from your service.
thank you very much everything
- This is the first book I have come across that treats the whole range of what one might come across in being owned by a horse and what to do should they need help. There are of course some points not picked up amongst them the Connemara Pony which has been accepted into the thoroughbreds, and which are a delight to own, being half Arab and half or less West Irish bog ponies (from the Spanish Armada). Very good detail and sage advice and the how tos' included, a present for my Grandchild who is studying for Veterinarian
- Being a new horse owner, I found this book somewhat helpful. A multitude of horse illnesses, injuries and conditions are described in an easy to understand language making it a good reference book.
However, this book would have been greatly improved if there were photos of each of the conditions described (there are none).
It also would have been helpful if there were an index to look up conditions by their major or most common symptoms, something a horse owner can reference if their horse is ill or injured.
- I have to disagree with the review from Guatemala. This book is not intended to make you a vet but to let you understand enough so you, your vet, and your horse can have intelligent interaction. To his specific gripe about dewormers I disagree. Just giving a dewormer without knowing what you are deworming for is wrong. Even for humans a stool sample is lab tested to know exactly what to treat....you'd do less for your horse? This book is exceptional in that it talks to you with the minimal of medical jargon and what is used is explained. I do agree with his review about getting the other book. Both are twins and compliment each other well. I would reccommend you get both.
- I found this book to be good for novices, but it lacks in-depth information about treatment. For instance, under parasite control it says "talk to your veterinarian" No list of common wormers, their activity, safety and recommended dosing schedule. At least here in Guatemala, the vet prefers for you to participate in the possible diagnoses and treatment options to make an informed decision. This book leaves me in the cold. I recommend you check out Dr. Giffin's manual for horse owners - much more detailed.

2 comments about The Kingfisher Illustrated Horse and Pony Encyclopedia.
- I found this book very readable with lots of beautiful pictures. It has sections on horse breeds(horses&ponies), horse's coloring/markings, grooming, traveling, trimming, stable management, feeding, health & caring for a sick horse, tack, it even has a section on riding(mostly eastern)and driving! This book only gives basic information with a reasonable amount of detail, I would reccommend this book for any horse lover of any age. If you plan on owning a horse someday and want a book on training your horse, this isn't the best choice. If you want to know what goes into caring for a horse I would reccomend this book. Again, it has wonderful pictures and is easy to read, I love it and have confidence you will too.
- This was a wonderful book for a person who loves horses and likes to see different pictures of horses and ponies. My niece loved it so much she actually sleep with it the firsr night.
