1 comments about Of Women and Horses: More Expressions of the Magical Bond.
- This book is a must for all horse lovers, I love Pony Boy's observations, after reading what women had to write about their horse's, I myself can not finish a few stories, without crying. It evokes my deep inner most feelings that I have had for horses since I was 8 years old. To have someone to beable to related to horse lovers inner most feelings is a gift. The Photgraphs are spectacular.

5 comments about A Lifetime of Soundness: The Keys to Optimal Horse Health, Lameness Rehabilitation and the High-performance Barefoot Horse.
- Dr Strasser has opened the eyes, ears, and minds of most horse owners and caretakers to the fact that horses are naturally wild animals that have been domesticated but who still need to have everything involving their care as close to nature as it can be. Her books make a lot of common sense. She brought my navicular (both front)mare who was on 2 grams of bute a day and still hurting to now bute free, running around and rolling around on the ground acting like a 7 yr old even though she is 22. My mare is much happier and healthier and I so am I. I hope if you buy Lifetime of Soundness or Shoeing a Necessary Evil that you will approach with an open mind. Personally I had tried everything that modern vets tell you to do with the exception of a nervectomy or cutting of the nerve to the foot of a navicular horse and nothing worked. In fact she was getting worse. Then by some miracle after searching the internet nite after nite I came upon Dr Strasser and her work and after reading the books and calling her and talking to her I had the shoes pulled and had someone who knows how do the trim and the difference it made was immediate!! I cannot thank Dr Strasser enough for her pioneering work. She has put her life on hold to spend as much time studying the horse and what makes it tick and she has endured a lot of criticism for her work. After she is gone the world will realize just what it lost. For all you out there who love your horses and want a more organic and natural way of co-existing with them these books are a must!!
- I love horses, own 3 and have spent a few years educating myself on how to provide a good life for them. I take pride in continually learning and studying various subjects and I'm big on natural horsemanship. But nothing prepared me for the insight I have gained from this book. I was often unable to read further because it took me a while to disgest what I had just read. There is so much information here and it makes complete sense. Unfortunately many of my horsekeeping habits, well-intentioned as they may have been, were totally wrong. I guess it's human nature to try and humanize our animals, keep them warm, shod, etc. not thinking about what nature had intented for them and how much they are harmed by us. If you never read anything else about horses, please read this book.
- This book is very informative and detailed about the need for natural trimming. I was expecting more how-to information, and will have to go elsewhere for that, especially since I do not live in Germany. This book gives very detailed descriptions of the hoof and natural boarding conditions.
- Every horse owner should have it! I think this book is so important, I gave one to the guys I sold a horse to, and donated one to the library. Deceptively small, it is densely packed with information that will help you to restore health and soundness to your horse. Simple, common-sense and scientific advice on horse keeping and hooves. It's not exactly an easy read and doesn't look much, but boy, you'll find helpful hints in there for just about everything that ails your horse - especially if it has any hoof- or lameness problems.
- This book discribes how a healthy hoove should look like, how it should function and what you can do to make it better. Sometimes dr Strasser repeads herself, that's why I gave 4 stars.

1 comments about Understanding the Horse's Legs.
- This book is an excellent overview of issues concerning the leg of the horse. Basic structure and movement are covered, but not in depth. It is a very good "intro to" text, but some of the illustrations could be a bit better- detail is lost in some of the black pen/ink drawings. However, the drawings and explanation in the "Transparent Design" chapter are quite clear and the author succintly explains how the bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, etc. work together for movement. I particularly appreciate this author's coverage of holistic/ complementary medical treatments.

2 comments about The Healing Touch of Horses: True Stories of Courage, Hope, and the Transformative Power of the Human/Equine Bond.
- I received this book in quick shipment and the book was in excellent condition and I am enjoying it very much.
- I thought this collection of short stories were well written, funny, inspiring and heartwarming. I have faced some serious health issues. I was particularly touched by the stories about ones health and how the bond with horses enable people to have strength and perserverance. I don't have a horse but several of my friends do and I gave each of them a copy of the book and they, too, loved it.

2 comments about Advanced Techniques of Riding: The Official Instruction Handbook of the German National Equestrian Federation.
- If you do ride or want to ride in the advanced level this is the book for you. This book explains everything you need to know once you are ready to start with the double bridle.
Do not start until you and your horse know every aspect from the book "The principles of riding" though.
Perfect book for instructors.
I bought the german edition 12 years ago. I bought the english edition last year. It is based on the comletely revised german edition from 1997. I use this book over and over...
- This book was excellent for understanding the riding, training, and high level rules of Grand Prix dressage, but if you're just getting into riding, or are in lower training level dressage, this is not the book for you. For anyone who is interested in making to Grand Prix of St. George or higher, buy this book! The knowledge in both rules and regulations, and in strataegies are wonderful.

5 comments about Cavaletti: The Schooling of Horse and Rider over Ground Poles.
- This is an excellent book for those looking for a systematic way of including cavalletti in their youngster's training. Ingrid and Reiner give excellent explanations and also provide photos/drawings to further describe what they are looking for. I have used this method in training my own youngsters with good results. One caution however, it doesn't matter how good the information is if the person applying it is unskilled or inexperienced.
- I couldn't put this book down! Chocked full of color photos makes this pleasing to use and wonderful to leaf through for ideas and an excellent reference. A good reminder of sound, basic training principles. A great addition to any library for dressage, hunter or jumper riders.
- I just love this book. I've never been so inspired to make a trip to Home Depot - I couldn't wait to build my own cavalletti and get out there and give it a try. Directions for building your own can be found here: www.texashorsemansdirectory.com/thdcav.htm This book provides an excellent introduction to working with cavalletti and is a must have for the English rider. Easy to read, well illustrated, great schooling plans and the gymnastic jumping section at the end is an added bonus. FUN, FUN, FUN!
- I'm not a brave jumper and this book has really encouraged me to incorporate more ground poles and cavalletti into my regular training regime.
My main interest is dressage but my enthusiasm for trying more pole and jumping work has been set alight by this book. They cover everything from the most basic information like boots for your horse, distances for different gaits and even how to adjust side reins correctly, right through to patterns and techniques to keep things interesting. The language used is simple, conversational and incredibly useful. Each topic - lunging, straight work over poles, gymnastic jumping etc - is addressed in detail with troubleshooting solutions provided for common problems. There are sample work schedules and cavalletti patterns for most objectives. This is a true working book that will be valuable to all levels of rider.
- This book helped me immensely with training my 3 year-old standardbred and 4 year-old thoroughbred. I would recommend this book to anyone who is training their horse(s) on their own. It gives great detail in instruction and the lessons explained really do work on young and older horses.
