1. I found this book fascinating, both the vivid photography and the acompanying narrative served to give an amazing portrayal of the lives of America's wild horses.



2. This is a captivating book. It is full of sensational and moving images of horses. The writing too is done by the photographer/authors...These two French people are clearly biologist/naturalists and true lovers of these horses, who know them better than anyone. They have lived with them for more than five years, intensely studying and photographing them. The book is an utterly beautiful and riveting look into the lives of these majestic animals. It has been a phenominal best selling book in France, which is why is is available here, translated into impecable English. When you have absorbed the beauty and information in this book, you will be moved and changed by the experience; you will have become an expert in horses. A very strongly recomended book for horse people, all animal lovers, and for lovers of great wildlife photography. sdb

1. Covers everything from basic bloodlines to breeding, buying, and then training and showing. This is the definitive reference book on Western Pleasure.



2. Hard bound book, easy to read and to the point of how to train your horse. Nice big photos, applicable diagrams, spelled out how to compete and be successful.
   I wish it had been the FIRST book I read!
   This is a book I will NEVER loan out.....ever.
   Time to go practice what I read~!



3. This is a good book for people who want to train for show and for those who want to have a well trained horse. It explains in terms that novice horse people can understand and appreciate and still covers the finer points of training. The book keeps your interest and is easy reading.



4. This is the singular most effective tool that I have ever used in working with both young and old horses. As an equine professional, I have applied many of the techniques and methods to my own herd. Doug is truly the pleasure master. I believe that many people outside of the industry would enjoy this beautifully photographed and well written journal about pleasure horses.



5. This book covers everything from breeding a pleasure prospect to working out the kinks in an older seasoned show horse. This will certainly help my new 3 year old filly and I make it in the AQHA show ring. I recommend it for anyone who wants to win!

1. Even if you are a participant in the growing "Natural Horsemanship" movement, (as am I) you will find lots of valuable insight in this little volume.



2. In this book Tom Widdicombe mixes brief stories from his working life with horses and explanations of how and why people and horses can work together successfully. He is not pushing a particular system or style of training- there are no sets of exercises here and time and again he observes that completely different approaches can yield equally successful results- but in his clear, easy-going way his writing gets as close to the essence of horsemanship as anything I have ever read. The anecdotes that illustrate his ideas or raise questions for the reader have a parable-like quality that leaves you thinking about them long after you have put the book down. His honest, down-to-earth explanations of how he has learned to work with horses and how he has helped other people to work with them will show you things you had never noticed about how you relate to them in your life.
   
   Time and again, from many different directions, he returns to the point that horses are simple animals and that it is us who make them complicated. He never wanders off into incomprehensible spiritual meanderings, he just describes the things he has seen and felt and learned through experience and through observation. Rather than offering any kind of fixed system or rules he suggests that you make your own decisions and take responsibility for your own choices.
   
   Reading this will make you want to go out and just spend time with your horse. It is a brilliant book- profoundly simple yet simply profound.

1. This book makes a nice gift for horse lovers but is a bit small for the price. It could be a few more pages for the price or lower the price by a few dollars. My daughter really liked the book so all-in-all it's not a bad deal. I bought the other 2 books in the English Exercises series and my daughter also enjoyed them as well.



2. If you are a dedicated English horseman and would like to know some extra exercises you can practice in the ring, this book is for you! Provides fun, maneuvers and exercises to preform. Although, some exercises may be difficult to preform or understand. Over all, this is a great buy if you have quite a bit of experience and desire a challenge.

1. Very nice book. Beautiful pictures and stories of real people.
   If you love people and horses this is well worth reading.



2. There is very little in this book about the healing power of horses.
   
   Donna Carlow, the one Lakota who overcame a horse riding injury, recovered with the support of the Lakota community; because they value horses in their culture more than Anglos. At least that is Wendy Baker's take on Donna's healing. She doesn't attribute it to the horses; she attributes Donna's healing to the Lakota culture and the Lakota community.
   
   The book concentrates on 9 Lakota Indians and 3 Lakota families and their stories about the importance of the horse in Lakota culture.
   
   It's by no means a comprehensive book; it's primarily a picture book with stories. And it isn't about the healing power of horses in the Lakota culture.
   
   Many people believe that there is a real spiritual and a healing connection between horses and humans, but this book is not a source for that information.



3. Wendy Baker's book is an uplifting story of her own recovery from a riding accident and how she overcomes fear and disability to reconnect with the joy and power of the horse. Wendy has shown how the Lakota Indians have rebuilt the spiritual bridge to their own equestrian roots with parallel stories of healing and strength. I enjoyed getting to know the individuals Wendy profiled, and reading about their courage, as well as hers. The book is informative, well-written, and the photographs are worth the price of the book in themselves.
