1 comments about Western Training: Beyond The Basics (Equi Skills).
- If you have a green horse of any age that you want to train for western events, here's the book for you: a title which goes beyond elementary lessons to provide step-by-step instructions on how to finish a Western horse. Black and white photos follow details which tell how to warm up a horse, correct common problems, use ground training to build a foundation, and more. A top pick for trainers who already know the basics and wish more.

4 comments about Basic Horse Training.
- I have bought many different kinds of horse training/riding books and this has been one of the better ones. I find that most books have a lot of pictures but little explaination or little explanation that I can understand. This book was very straight forward. The explanations the author gives are very easy to understand, but not so basic that you feel like he's talking down to you. I also found the illustrations to be very useful. I sometimes find that the pictures in books can be confusing or misleading. The sketches in this book make it very easy to see what the rider is trying to point out.
I have really found this book to be a big help. The ideas are a little different then what I have been used to seeing but they have worked very well. If you are looking for a book that has a lot to offer at a decent price - I really recomend Basic Horse Training!
- This book has been very helpful for my teenage daugher. We have read almost every training manual there is. This one has alot of
basic but important information that the others fail to mention.
My daughter and I were actually able to pinpoint some basic training tips that revealed some behaviors of ours that were confusing her horse. I would recommend this book to anyone who is
a newbie and has a horse trained for them. They will be able to
reinforce the training received, so that they can get their money's worth.
- I recently adopted a wild mustang. This book gave great instructions that really seemed to work. I have a lot of experience with horses but I really felt like I learned something from this book.
- This book was excellent! It was very easy to follow with very helpful illustrations. I've looked at a lot of training books, but this one had the most complete start-to-finish approach. This book was a great find at a low price!

2 comments about Storey's Barn Guide to Horse Handling and Grooming (Storys Barn Guide).
- The lay-flat binding and emphasis on visual step-by-step photos makes for an excellent guide to horse handling and grooming in Storey's Barn Guide to Horse Handling and Grooming: Essential Techniques in a Hands-Free Format. From approaching and catching a horse to grooming, braiding, tack and more, tips are presented in clear large-sized photos and illustrations perfect for any newcomer to horse care and management - and perfect for libraries catering to the new or young horse owner, in particular.
- As someone who's been involved with horses throughout my life I've always sought a really thorough, easy-to-understand guide for newcomers to the world of horses and riding. This is the publication I've been looking for: It contains well-written and clearly illustrated step-by-step procedures for all the basic tasks in horse handling and grooming, plus a special emphasis on safety throughout. The friendly, "visual" format with photographs and detailed drawings is great for this kind of instructional text.
Although aimed at new riders, the book will also be of interest to seasoned riders too as it not only provides knowledge and skills but also an informative guide to how horses think and how to more effectively communicate with them. The author de-mystifies horse behavior in the "Reading a Horse" chapter and shows how to understand the cues that show a horse's moods and important "warning signs". These are the kinds of things that experienced riders have spent a long time learning to see but the book provides a huge "leg-up" to people who haven't spent a lot of time around horses yet.
The book closes with a really fun chapter on "Horse Play" with step-by-step instruction on how teach your horse some cute tricks.
So I highly recommend this book for new riders, young and old. I've already given away a couple of copies and gotten rave reviews.

5 comments about Healing for Horses: The Essential Guide to Using Hands-On Healing Energy with Horses.
- I found this book so helpful in learning about horses. Not only about healing and energy work but also about the soul of the horse. We have so much to learn about these magnificent animals. By reading Margrit Coates book I know that I will too become an animal healer. I encourage any one who loves horses and interested in learning about healing touch to read it.
- This book is useful, easy to read and understand. It is written in clear prose, with a nice flow, and sense of humor. Just the right amount of pictures and explanations. Thanks for the good work.
- A beautifully written book that is easy to read and understand. The stories are moving, and the directions for beginning healing yourself on your own horse, are clear and concise with wonderful diagrams and pictures to further explain how to go about it. I have tried some of the techniques with my elderly horse who recently lost his best horse buddy, and have seen definite results. It is a book worth reading.
- Excellent price and a really fine hard cover book that will give anyone reading it many insights into the animal world/mind.
Highly recommend...

4 comments about The Anatomy of the Horse.
- this is a good book except that the written explanations on the back pages have wrtiting so small I can't read it at all
- This is an interesting book and the drawings are lovely. However, you don't know what you are looking at since the explanation plates are way way too tiny to read. You'd have to take the pages and blow them up to read what is drawn. Instead of 4 plates to a page how about each plate to a page. Don't buy if you are trying learn about the horse because you can't read the tiny tiny print.
- George Stubbs is considered one of the all time great sports artists. Although he focused predominantly on horses, study of his work reveals that his talents were diverse and impressive. It was fairly unique in his time to do detailed anatomical studies, and George Stubbs was somewhat of a pioneer in that field. He even rigged up a special apparatus to hold the horse carcass in life-like poses as he dissected and sketched. I have an older edition of this book, and it's so used and loved that the pages are falling out!
I've been a student and follower of George Stubbs since childhood ... partly because I've always been a "horse-crazy kid", and partly because I'm actually a descendant of the artist. I had the honor of viewing a marvelous display of his original works at Yale University's art museum many years ago. Seeing the artwork in person made me appreciate his talents even more.
By purchasing and studying this book, you are not only reviewing a very accurate rendering of the anatomy of the horse, you are holding a significant piece of both art and biological history in your hands.
Don't hesitate if you're considering a purchase. You won't regret it.
- I found that the book was very well written and was jamed packed with need to know information. It provided me with the information that I need in my Equine Science class. It had alot of stuff that the text book did not have. I would recommend this book to student that is taking an Equine related class.
