5 comments about Complete Book of Horse Care.
- much of this book was helpful, but i was immediately disappointed when i saw his foal handling techniques. most of them are cruel and unnecessary(sp?), in fact, as between us my mother and i have halter 'broken' two foals, simply by getting their trust and making halters and ropes safe, fun things. in his book he describes twisting ears, twitching, tying to a post in an covered roundyard as a way of halter breaking. although i agree that in an emergency/dangerous situation, twictching a horse may be the only way to save its life, it is not a good training solution or vet aid. definately not a book for the horse LOVER.
- A very good read. Would have liked more info on tack and tacking up but overall I recommend it.
- This book was a wonderful source for me to look to for anything I needed to know. It also taught me many things I didn't know but needed to. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about horses!
- This was one of the best horse books I've read. It thoroughly covers care, tack, riding, history-everything! Although it didn't give step-by-step instructions for everything, it was a complete and satisfying book to read.
- This book takes the reader through the history of equines, and continues with the modern horse and its needs. Purchasing, grooming, handling, disease and nutrition are a few of the subjects addressed. Excellent color photos and examples.

1 comments about The Complete Guide for Horse Business Success.
- This guide provides most of the nesscesary tools and tips to start your own horse business. Providing information that allows one to confidently pursue this venture. This book gave me the confidence to proceed with my business knowing all the facts up front. It allowed me to handle purchases and tax formalities without feeling like I didn't know what I was doing. Great starter book! I have read "starting you own horse business" by Mary Ashby Mcdonald. While her book is informative and gives examples not covered in the previous book, it serves basically to complement other books on this issue.

- The Recycling Occupational Therapist: Hundreds of Simple Therapy Materials You Can Make
Although this book is written with a target audience of riders, parents and volunteers, as an occupational therapist new to the area of hippotherapy and horses in general, I found it a helpful and enjoyable read. Long time volunteer, Naomi Scott has done such a good job explaining what is involved in working at a therapeutic riding center that readers will be inspired to check out this special field.

5 comments about In & Out: Year One in the Jumping for Gold Series.
- I've read this book 3 times and pick up something new each time. Who wouldn't fall in love with Jericho! QL, Starbucks, Chuck, what a team! Being an old hunter/jumper rider, it was good to read a book that was written by someone who knows what she is talking about. Makes me want to go to a show, with my cup of caffeine from Starbucks!! See you at HITS!! and hopefully a sequel will be in the works!!
- I had wanted to read a good novel about horses and their riders...I was sorely disappointed. I can't even say that at least the end was good, because I couldn't get that far. I read over 400 pages of annoying fragmented sentences, and was amazed at the shallowness and hostility of the characters, who were always either 'snarling,' 'sneering,'or 'purring' to one another...these are obviously the author's favorite verbs. The horses are just part of the background scene, rather than the focus of the story, and the intricacies of caring for show horses were really not described at all. It seems the author was far more interested in describing the parties, sex, and brawls than anything else. The lack of proofreading and editing was obvious. The only amazing thing about this book was that it somehow got published. I had heard it was comparable to Jilly Cooper's "Riders" but it does not even come close.
- A Magnificent Book that has everything going for it.
In & Out: Year One in the Jumping for Gold Series by Barbara Moss
is a knowledgable and exciting look at the world of show jumping,
but also is about honor and growth.
- I agree with the reviewer who said the redeeming value of the book is the depiction of the horses and the horse world, and also agree that even that is stereotypical. The main character has to be one of the most one-dimensional, obnoxious protagonatists I've come across in a long time, or ever! The writing is really bad. So why do I give it 3 stars? Somehow the writer pulls it off. She's a great story teller, who knows exactly where to put the twists and turns in the plot to keep you going just when you think you've had enough of angry Jericho and really bad prose. Kudos to Barbara Moss for that. And, amazingly, I've decided I'll buy her next book. But she's no Jilly Cooper, and this is not Riders (which is not exactly great literatute either but still the best of the genre).
- This is one of my favorite books. Yes it certainly is an adults book but it has a great story line. I only hope that Barbara Moss write a sequel. Great book!!!

5 comments about Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming.
- Grooming a sheltie is a wonderful way to bond with the animal. They look forward to being groomed, if it is done in a skillful way. Whether your sheltie is a pet or show dog, this is an excellent resource. And, though it will take a little longer, the techniques can be used on rough collies, too.
- Whether you show your dog, or just want him/her to look like a show dog, this is the book for you. As a groomer, I found the book to be a very helpful resource, and I recommend it to anyone interested in Shelties.
- This is a very informative book for the "newbie" in the world of Sheltie Show grooming. I don't see it really being for the typical pet owner however. Probably too much detail and more than they would want to know! It is really for the beginner show person, however I would recommend having someone already experienced teach you, do not just go by the book! :-))
- Just about every aspect of sheltie grooming can be applied to collie grooming. It can be a challenge looking at an ungroomed collie and not knowing where to start. This book breaks down the whole process into manageable pieces...ear trimming, foot trimming, line brushing and more. A valuable reference book to keep near your grooming table!
- For those of you who are interested in making your sheltie look his or her best this is the book to read. Barb, who is a breeder and handler, takes you step by step through the grooming process. It even works for those of us who do not think we have the nack for grooming. P.S. The art work is great too.

5 comments about The Chronicles of the $700 Pony.
- I loved the book! It was hysterical! I could not put it down,I should not have bought it during finals week. I spent more time reading it and less time studying. The author really grabs the raw emotions and spits them out in a way that makes you fall off your chair laughing. Would recommend this book to everyone!
- I am new to this 'horsey' stuff. My trainer gave me this for Christmas saying when she read this book she thought of me...often!!!Without a doubt, this is THE funniest book I have ever read and I have already given 4 copies to other 'horsey' friends....enjoy........
- If you are into horses (I mean own them), you need to read this. It will cast a hilarious light on everything you've ever done for these silly creatures. I laughed and laughed.
- I first read these stories on the Chronicle forums, and I was thrilled when I found out Ellen had published them into a book. Excellent book for any horse-owner or -lover, regardless of discipline, many of you will relate to whats in here!
- This is a must read book for any horse owner or anyone who loves to laugh.

- Howell Equine Handbook of Tendon and Ligament Injuries (Howell Equestrian Library)
A great little book with easy to understand explinations. Simple clear pictures. Great reading for any one with an tendon / ligament injured horse. There are repairable with time.
- This book is very, very basic. I bought it because I thought it would go into more depth and cover more topics. It skims the surface and nothing more. I was disappointed by it.
- Found this book very basis, mostly common knowledge among horsepeople. Would be a good book for the first time horse owner, otherwise not very helpful.
- This little book is packed full of all the information you may want to know about horse's tendons and ligaments. As well as delving into injuries as per the book title, it also explains the structure, mechanics and function of the tendons and ligaments in relation to the rest of the anatomy. There are good chapters on common injuries, diagnosis and treatment, as well as prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
There are several case studies, discussion about peripheral topics such as travelling boots and bandages and an excellent chapter devoted to the equine foot, where the relative merits and perils of different hoof angles and shoeing techniques.
- This book is an invaluable source of information. The illustrations really added to my understanding of Doctor Schultz's explanations so that I thoroughly understood the issues surrounding my horse's lameness. Because of this I could speak intelligently to my vet and get a better perspective of the injury and its implications. There is no better book on the subject. Robin Levine

5 comments about Back to Work: How to Rehabilitate or Recondition Your Horse.
- Not what I expected. No real detail on rehab or reconditionong as it was based on case study and very vague in actual rehab & technique / plan /& assessment of ongoing levels of progression. Good points were that it gives owners of injured horses hope and support from reading some of the case studies that in many cases could have been the total end of the horse and rider.
- This book does what it promises, which is to offer real-life care and rehabbing guidelines for a variety of common layup issues. I found it very well organized and have referred to it a few times as I re-hab my own horse. Great information to have all in one place!
- Interesting and very clearly written, well laid out, yet with a personal touch. Covers tendons, ligaments, colics and the dreaded laminitis. Chapter 5 is interesting with tips from riders and experts. Covers a range of different case studies from a realistic and personal angle, with sound advice given for each scenario. A very useful reference book to have on you shelf.
- Great book. I learned quite a bit about caring for my horse after a tendon injury. There is so much confusion and misinformation out there and this book really clarifies things. It gave me clear guidelines when I started riding my mare again. It also made me feel better hearing other people's sadness and emotions over having a horse with similar injuries as I could really relate to it. I think the book is worth the money and it helped me quite a bit. There is also a section on bringing a horse back after colic surgery so that would be helpful to those in that situation.
- I liked the individual case histories that allowed me to compare with my horse. I wish I had found this book sooner.
