  1. excellent delivery service. books are in great condition at very good price! Those books i ordered, just went up $10 more after i got all 5 of them!

  2. This classic teaching manual provides a complete basic instruction course for horse and rider using the German training system. No matter you are a jumper, dressage, or trail rider, this book is probably the most complete reference book for every beginner trough First Level rider. I recommend it to everyone who is willing to start his and his horse's training with the basics and to build on them. I list the contents here because I did miss it when I bought the book.

1 comments about Storey's Guide to Feeding Horses: Lifelong Nutrition, Feed Storage, Feeding Tips, Pasture Management.

  1. This book is wonderful. It explains what to feed, how to feed, where to feed and all the "why"s associated. It will make you want to know everything about what is in your horses feed and find the highest quality hay and pasture.

It is an invaluable resource for horse owners who have realized that trusting a feed company to supply complete nutrition is not always a wise decision. This book can give someone the tools to create their own feed mixture and save money while improving thier horses' health.

Perhaps if more horse owners were armed with this information, feed companies would be forced to supply costomers with better information about their products.

2 comments about Storey's Barn Guide to Horse Health Care + First Aid (Storey's Barn Guide).

  1. When a horse is sick or injured it's essential to have quick information close at hand, which is why Horse Health Care & First Aid stands above other 'horse care guides'. It's got a nail hole at the top of each two-page spread to hang on a barn wall, offers a hands-free visual reference, and provides horse owners with both routine and critical care facts in an at-a-glance format. A 'must' for any horse owner.

  2. It is excellent. We got into recueing 3 Horses, by acident, and knew nothing about how to care for them. It told us everything we needed to get them in good shape. I recommend this book for anyone who has horses. It is the best!

3 comments about Longeing the Rider for a Perfect Seat: A How-to Guide for Riders, Instructors, and Longeurs.

  1. I bought this book specifically for the excellent exercises that it provides for the instructor to teach their students on the lunge line. This book was very helpful in covering the benefits of each exercise and how to execute. There were many different exercises and it was explained very well as to when and why you would use them. I also enjoyed 'Yoga for the Equestrian' by the same author.

  2. I was lucky enough to actually have a few longeing lessons with Linda Benedik and they made a huge difference in my riding. Her techniques changed me from a being a stiff and unconfident rider to someone who has much better balance and fluidity. I have always wished I could train with her regularly and this book is such a help. It is very easy to follow with a logical sequence of skill sets. We have several copies at my barn now and I like to review it each time I ride so that I can practice specific techniques. Doing the exercises each time I ride not only helps me get in tune with my horse but helps keep my 40 year old body limber and relaxed in the saddle. I can not recommend Linda, her techniques and this book highly enough.

  3. This is a wonderful book for the rider or the instructor. It is
chocked full of great exercises that will improve the balance, seat
and feel of all riders. The instructions are clear and easy to
follow. The photographs are helpful and inspirational. It's so
nice to find a book that makes the principles of classical riding
seem accessible to the average rider. This isn't a book for your
shelves. This is a book to take to the barn and use everyday.

5 comments about Lessons with Lendon: 25 Progressive Dressage Lessons Take You from Basic "Whoa and Go" to Your First Competition (Popular Training Series from Practical Horseman).

  1. I just love this book. Gray points out the key steps to progress from zero up for green horses or marue horses that have to start over. Her directions are very specific and practical. Although she explains why each step is required she does so after she says what to do. This is unlike a number of theory books that don't say what to do. She jumps right to work on the first lesson and does not waste pages on fluffy husbandry stuff. I really love this book and have started my horse on the program already. If Gray lived closer, I would definately take lessons from. This book allows me to learn the basics from a master. It will be well used in my training program.

  2. It is the best book to learn with!!! It tells you how to do things that my trainer couldn't get to stick in my mind. The pictures are a huge help, and how he says things is the best! If your thinking about buying, its worth every penny!

  3. I'm sure I overlooked the disclaimer, but it appears this book is a compilation of the series of "Practical Horseman" magazine articles that Ms. Gray authored several years back. Still good information, of course, but I wouldn't have purchased that book had I known that. (I saved the magazine articles to a binder, you see.)

  4. Let me start by saying, I really think this is a good book to have in one's library. Why? In succinct, but not short or even overly brief statements, Lendon Gray provides chunks of information that neither overwhelm nor talk down to the reader.
Having ridden twice in the Olympics, she knows obviously a lot more about dressage than most of us. What makes this book a pleasure is the presentation. She does it on a straight-forward approach as if talking to someone who is on the same level as her. There is a sense of equality between writer and reader's level of knowledge. In other words, she does not come across as a "I know it all and you know nothing."

All the information throughout the 25 lessons are chunked into small pieces, each comes with a succinct heading that gives the reader a clue as to what she will talk about in the next third or so column. What made this book very useful to me are the images of "right / correctly" and "wrong / incorrectly" applied principles. She details what can be done to correct wrong workings in very good depth, which makes this very useful for either between lessons or for those who do not have the opportunity of working with a dressage trainer on a regular basis.

I can recommend this book for most levels of riding, but believe that as with many books, it will be most useful to those who work in Training through lower Level 2 stages. Advanced Level 2 through Grand Prix riders will be far to knowledgeable to get a great deal of use out of this. But for the majority of riders, I think this book is great and it delivers what it set out to do: teach from start of riding to the first competition. It also provides a great place to go back and figure out "what went wrong" to help correct problems that creep up in riding.

  5. The book is well written so the average person who is either starting out or is early in a riding carrer will benefit. I particularly liked the fact that she believes all basic dressage will help in what ever riding carrer you may wish to take. She spells out the riders total responsiblity verses the horse which I found to be very refreshing. I gave it 4 stars only because it was pitched below where I thought the book was based on the reviews.

2 comments about Ride from Within: Use Tai Chi Principles to Awaken Your Natural Balance and Rythm.

  1. I bought this book about two weeks ago. I read through the whole book in two days, and am now working on the exercises. I can already feel a huge improvement in my riding. My awareness of balance and where I am carrying tension is greatly heightened, and with the exercises I am able to correct these problems.

The unmounted exercises are deceptively simple. As my proficiency increases the benefit I get from them increases exponentially.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about riding, or anyone who would just like to increase the pleasure of riding.

    Marvellously therapeutic!

  2. Great book to help with your seat and "feel" for riding.
Highly recommended for students and instructors of any discipline.

5 comments about The Faraway Horses: The Adventures and Wisdom of One of America's Most Renowned Horsemen.

  1. Pretty good story, too bad I found out from this book that Buck was the horse technical advisor on the the movie The Horse Whisperer. That movie was another awful Hollywood misrepresentation and misleading work on horses and horse training. It's a shame that a real horseman like Buck could be a part of such garbage. Maybe someday Hollywood and a real horseman will get together to make a movie that shows the real nature of horses and horsemanship.

  2. One of the most insiring books about Natural Horsemanship and any instructor that I have ever read. I wish I had read it before I took a clinic with Buck. I most certainly will continue to Study with him when ever possible and with the instructors he has taught. Ricky Quinn & Paul Dietz
Thank you Buck for all that you are and all that you do for us and our Horses we love and revere so very much.
    Donna Petermann

  3. This book arrived in less than 1 week, in new condition. I am very happy with the service as advertised. I was given a copy of this book and have passed it along to several friends, who in turn, have passed it along until it was worn out. Quite a story and man.
    JD

  4. Buck invites us on a journey of his life that is less than perfect and yet terribly intriguing. His honesty is refreshing and his story is not tainted by the misgivings of others. This book demonstrates his desire to overcome a difficult childhood, his love of horses, and his compassion for all. He is certainly not a "Hollywood cowboy," though his skills have brought him into unintended notoriety. Inspiring for all horse lovers.

  5. The faraway Horses is what the author's young daughter refered to when she spoke of her father's job that took him away so often. As a horselover, trainer, teacher etc.. the term rang true to how faraway we can get, horse and equine alike, from where we want and need to be. Buck Brannaman's stories are introspective and beautifully told. A powerful book moving and beautiful.

1 comments about Mouths and Bits (Threshold Picture Guides Series).

  1. I found this book, by way of a quick perusal, to be easy to understand about the use of teeth in telling a horses age. The written contents were easy to comprehend, as opposed to vet books and others that I read through, the depictions clear and concise.

EXACTLY what the average horseperson wants in this type of book. We have an agistment property and are in the business of re-educating horses and selling horses, so this book is a must for us.

We have always used veterinary text, which is rather hard to follow for the layman.
