5 comments about The Ultimate Guide to Pampering Your Horse.
- I was fortunate to receive this book as a gift because I don't know if I would have bought it on my own. That would have been my loss because this book is jam-packed with practical tips, suggestions and advice for nose-to-tail horse care! June Evers' book offers ideas for complete grooming methods (including how to get rid of static electricity), mane and tail conditioning treatments (no less than five different options!), differnt kinds of baths for your horse (basic bath, the really dirty horse bath, refresher bath, frequently bathed horse bath, etc.), how to keep water tanks clean, ideal stall layouts, mucking schedules, and the list goes on. She does devote a fair amount of the book to recipes for gourmet horse treats, salads, cakes. And she started to lose me with the chapters on parties, games and costumes.
Don't let those subjects deter you if you're not into treating your horse like a baby! Her book contains essential information for the horse owner along with appropriate cautions. (For example, she explains why accessible salt is important for all horses, but also why electrolytes are not proper for idle horses.) This spiral bound book contains generous amounts of wonderful photos in an attractive, easy to read layout. Think of it as the collective wisdom of all of the experienced horsepeople (and vet) at your barn.
- Fab fab fab fabbo.Greatttt
- This is a wonderful book for anyone who love's horses! It's full of recipes of all sorts. And all sorts of ways to pamper your horse.
- It was a great book that was easy to read to and understand. The directions were clear and it showed you how to love your horse to the max. How to have horse parties and a horse pampering day. A pampered horse is usually a better horse. It shows you recipes for every little thing like treats and mashes. Great Book that I recommend to all horse lovers!
- June Evers is an independent publisher who spent many months compiling the information in this book. The book is entirely made up of handy hints, fun things, and lots of photos contributed by horse owners all over the country. It is interesting and fun reading. One sample hint from the book: Give your horse a traffic cone to play with. Your horse will love chewing, shaking, and stomping all over them! Caren Goodrich

5 comments about TRAINING THE THREE-DAY EVENT HORSE AND RIDER.
- This book is excellent, I can't tell you how many times I've referred back to it. Contains tips for training horse and rider in all three phases, and common problems that most riders will certainly face sometime in their career. Lots of great photographs to show you the right (and sometimes not so right) way to do things. Advice on conditioning (which I've found to be very helpful) and gymnastics at the back of the book. If you event, get this book.
- I have had the incredible opporunity to work with this man in person. He is THE most informative, patient, helpful trainer I have ever worked with. Both of his books, "Training the Three-Day Event Horse and Rider" and "Gymnastics", are must-reads for any equestrian. I can only hope he writes more!!
- I am just a beginner, but this book inspired me to try hard to event. I loved the gymnastics in the back!
- I was SO happy to finally read a book involving cross country with so much emphasis on good basics and snaffle bits. I am so sick of hearing trainers advocating bigger bits to control your horse. Mr. Wofford advocates better TRAINING to control your horse - what a concept. This book covers quite a range of topics; from choosing an event horse, dressage, how the horse sees jumps vs. how we see jumps, cross country, jumping, conditioning, cross country position and more. I think this is a great book!
- In 1984 I began riding in Jimmy's clinics and have accumulated numerous hours riding, watching and listening. During this time I took copious notes on his comments; measurements of his gymnastics; watched other riders and listened to Jimmy's critiques. "Training-the-Three-Day Event Horse" IS Jimmy Wofford. His concise, straitforward teaching comes through in his book just as though you are there listening to him. If I could only have one book, it would be this one. I recommend it to my students, I give it as gifts and I wouldn't leave home without it.

1 comments about Reading the Horse's Mind.
- This book is ideal for those wanting to know more about 'natural horsemanship'.It covers ideas and inserts from all the leading specialists in this field: Monty Roberts, Linda Tellington Jones, and also leading sportspeople: Mary King, Carl Hester, Karen O'Connor, David Broome, Susan Hutchinson, Sylvia Logh and Marcy Parvord.THe only reason it hasnt got 5 Stars is that I would have liked a little more about how to overcome specific problems rather than the general allround insight it gives you.
However I now know that I am interested enough to go and buy an other book that will cover different training problems in depth. This book has given me the grounding in horse behaviour and his mind. I think it is an interesting read and one to have on the shelf in the home rather than leaving it at the shop. The main topics it covers are: Evolution of the horse, The horses world, Patterns for living, How do horses Learn, How intelligent are horses, The mind in training, Setting up for success.
