1 comments about Steve Yzerman : The Quiet Captain (Sport Snaps) (Sport Snaps).
- This book is a must read for all hockey fans, not just Red Wings or Yzerman fans. It follows one of the NHL's greatest captain throughout his NHL career, from the beginning to his 16 years as a Red Wing to his back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 1997 and 1998. It's not just filled with stories to put a smile on your face, though. There's amazing full-colour photos of Steve at his best and quotes from many NHL players and coaches about Steve. I think the most interesting part of the book is Steve's game-day routine . I've always wondered what a player like Steve does on game-day, now I know! Paul Harris has put together a great book that all hockey fans can enjoy. I recommend it to everyone who likes hockey. From little kids to adults, anyone can enjoy this book.

3 comments about Without Fear: Hockey's 50 Greatest Goaltenders.
- If you aren't aware of hockey's great goalies of the 20's thru 60's, this is the book for you. Being older than I care to admit, I saw Crozier, Worsley, Plante (have their autographs), Bower, Hall, Sawchuk & a dozen others who are now little more than a footnote or a color commentator's time-filler. This book will remedy that, giving a good background into some of the most outstanding goalies of the "Golden Age" of hockey. Of particular interest is the categorizing of many of these men as "unsung", "tragic" etc. I'll be referring to it often.
- I never received this item, can you make sure I was not charged.
Thank you Joe Lawrence

- "WITHOUT FEAR" by Kevin Allen and Bob Duff is one of the best books ever published on the history of NHL goaltenders. This just published 280 page hard cover coffee table edition is a must for hockey fans of all ages, and especially all those junior goalies out there? The 50 greatest goalies in history are ranked and profiled in great detail. Hockey legend Johnny Bower gives his commentary on each selection as well. One can't argue with the selection of the 50 goalies, but you can have fun with friends, arguing if Patrick Roy[#1 ranked]is the greatest of them all? All the great names of the past and present are here to read about, like Terry Sawchuk, Glenn Hall, Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden, Eddie Giacomin, Tony Esposito, and Gump Worsley just to name a few from the old school. Modern players like Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, Ed Belfour, Mike Vernon and Curtis Joseph are some of the newer entries. Some of the goalies profiled like Rogie Vachon, Lorne Chabot, Davey Kerr and Roger Crozier were never elected to the hall of fame, but are surely deserving of consideration? I consider this book to be a bible of goaltending history, and a must have book to make any hockey library complete.

3 comments about Hockey Stars Speak: In-Depth Interviews With the Nhl's Biggest Stars.
- Wish I had a buck for every typo in this book. Brutal.
- Hhmm.. This wasn't a bad book at all. It gives pretty good insight into the lives of star players like Pavel Bure and such, and gives info on how they got started and who helped them develope into the players they are now. Around the back part it has some pages that go into the personal lives of players like Roenick and tells the kinds of superstitions and routines that they have and if your an Avs fan they have an interview with Marc Crawford at the very end. All in all, not a bad book.
- "Hockey Players Speak" is an enjoyable read so long as you ingnore the common punctuation errors and the fact that some of the players interviewed are still in the process of learning english. All in all, the reader gets some very personal stories directly from the player's mouths and at the same time realize that these guys are human and don't spend their entire lives on the ice.
The book is divided up into three categories: an indepth look at a players' life recounted by the player; 'Day in the Life of' section that follow's a players' typical day; and 'Press Conferences' that are neat little quickie interviews.
The best interviews are from the European players because so little is known about them and they are rarely focused on in other hockey books. Although their english is a little shaky in places, the reader is suprised to see that these usually quiet individuals are well spoken and are quite intellegent.
There's no startling revelations here, just some good anecdotes and quotes to help pass away a lazy, rainy afternoon. If you would like to delve a little deeper into some of the NHL's stars and learn where they came from then pick up this book. It's worth it just to see what their favorite ice cream flavour is....{You'll have to read it to find out!}
Enjoy!
