1. This book for very youg children is nicely illustrated by Yoshi Miyake. The life-like representations of Diego Rivera are created with fine detail. Several of Rvera's mural projects are recreated for the young student of art. This book is a bilingual edition where each page is translated on the same page , followed by a beautiful illustration or else, each language has a version on one of two pages with illustrations taking the other half of the pages. It makes for a very entertaining format that should hold the interest of a child. The content covers many of the major developmentsin Rivera's life but curiously his marriage to Frida Kahlo Frida Kahlo (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists) is not mentioned but there is an illustration that has her image next to him on his visit to Detroit. This book is especially helpful for young students who are either learning Spanish or students with limited English skills. In either case the student may look at the translation and apply his understanding to the language they are unfamiliar with. This book is recommended for young students up to middle school for a very good introduction to the life of Diego Rivera. The book also includes a bilingual glossary that is very helpful. This would be a good book for book reports or on the life of a famous person but additional information may be found by looking at titles such as Diego Rivera (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists) or Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Their Lives and Ideas, 24 Activities (For Kids series). This book is recommended for community, middle and grade school libraires or for families that like to expose their children to art.
