- This book is a quick read, but lots of fun. Great tips. Great quotes, and the illustrations add a lot. It is nice to look at, reference and read. If you are feeling that your current look needs a bit of updating, this can help.
- This book is a perfect gift for any woman who loves style, fashion, and beauty. kate spade has beautiful watercolor pallets with different color combinations that are sure to put a twist into any woman's closet. The message that she convays is being true to yourself because that is how your personality will come through what you are wearing. The other thing that is great about this book are the comments from her husband Andy who chimes in to give the male perspective, an important factor missing in most style guides.
- I am a costume designer, ex-fashion editor and for those of you who don't know, Kate has a degree in journalism. Kate Spade was also an editor for a fashion mag and sold half of her company to the Neiman-Saks corp for 34 million dollars just seven years after she launched. This book IS about Kates own inspiration and personal favorites on the subject of color and style. It is not meant to be a step by step guide as much as it is her tid bids of cultual and artistic info to inspire. Outside of the beautiful watercolor images my favorite is how she lists her favorite stylish movies and favorite fine artists. Kate is a true designer, an artist, not a silly talk show TLC show host with no previous training in fashion or style. Her book is creative and feminine. These books are keepsakes.
- the book should be titled "everyone should have my style". it's just filled with lists of things kate spade likes, in other words all things preppy. the only real style advice are the three or four tidbits that she borrows from real style icons such as d vreeland and c chanel... and you will aready know those... don't bother buying this book and contributing more money to her overpriced designer knock-off company.
- I bought Kate Spade's book on Style because I was in the mood. I find it to be charming and light- nothing to get serious over. The water color illustrations are pretty and reminds me of sunny days and daydreams. While I know what I like, it's nice to get fresh ideas from a true designer. She talks about color combinations and collecting items you enjoy. I think she means for fashion to be whimsical and fun- nothing to take too seriously! Some of these reviewers are completley missing the mark! I do not think Kate Spade is thinking about become a famous writer!

3 comments about Bamboo Style: Exteriors, Interiors, Details (Icons).
- . . .photographed very well. This is a 'picture book' meant to stimulate the imagination in finding ways to use bamboo creatively. If you have one, and just enjoy great photography and a homage to the beauty of bamboo, this is the book for you!
- For anyone interested in design who wants to see examples of what others have done, this is a great book - lots of excellent pictures. For someone who wants lots of explanation of what they are looking at, it is a disaster as there is virtually zero text (whole book has maybe 1 page, pictures have no titles or descriptions of any sort, no idea of location, anything. So for the artist, designer who has a need for visual stimulation (like going to an art gallery), it is great.
- I was given this book as gift by Joerg Stamm a famous bamboo builder. It is one of the most popular books in our library in our sales and design office. Shot mostly in Bali area (I think) it is a great photo essay of design possibilities using bamboo materials. Since it is what we do for a living we are always looking for ideas to help us create new tropical sanctuaries for our customers. I recommend it highly for design ideas, and a fine coffee table book filled with delicious images sure to inspire.

2 comments about Design: An Illustrated Historical Overview (Crash Course Series).
- Design (Crash Course Series) [Thomas Hauffe] is a condensed history of design from the 18th through 20th century. Hauffe's writing style is interesting, informative and well thought-out. The book itself is visually stunning (a design feat in itself) with high quality images and an intuitive layout. Through the text, Hauffe explores the external influences - the developments and effects of technological advancements throughout time and the implications on design.
As a software engineer and an admirer of design / architecture, I find this small pocket book an excellent source of inspiration and an intriguing read. The factors influencing design also impact the realm of software design (a subset of design in general).
Technical, economic, aesthetic, and social developments along with political, psychological, cultural, ecological, and global influences will continue to impact software design (and all types of design). Throughout the text we can see that design is an integral part of history, and that innovation has been happening for centuries (designers have been constantly improving existing ideas). We can also observe that design is iterative (cyclic) and often occurs in patterns (similar to design patterns in the software realm).
This is an excellent book, a great source of inspiration. Many parallels can be drawn throughout this text and applied to any specific type of design.
We can learn more from history than we may think. Read!
- I am an engineer with a love for design and architecture This book itself is well-designed and is printed in a handy 4-3/8" X 7-1/2" size that makes it ideal for carrying in a jacket pocket to read on an airplane or to use as a reference during a museum trip. It's richly illustrated on every page in color and printed on heavy, semi-gloss paper. The 192 pages cover the period 1750 - 1993 but are limited to European and American design. The book was originally published in Germany, and German designers have coverage that is perhaps disproportionate.
The appendices include a useful chronology, an ample bibliography, an index by subject, and an index of the more than 400 names whose work is mentioned in the body of the book. The glossary unfortunately is far too brief. I have a very large library and prize books like this which can be repeatedly browsed with enjoyment or quickly used for reference. It would also make a nice gift for a young person with an interest in art who does not yet realize that art is all around us in things we use each day.

- THE LITTLE BOX OF SOCKS by Charlene Schurch and Beth Parrott provides some 20 creative sock projects for knitters to produce, from different colors and textures to a range of styles. These take the form of 'project cards' with sizes, supply lists, and step-by-step directions perfect for avid knitters.
- Nifty little collection of sock patterns. I'm always looking for new ones and this fills the bill.
- Lots of choices, very nice presentation, good instructions. What more could you ask--free yarn? I really like it and am glad I bought it.
- I just received this great little box of sock patterns and I already have planned a few projects using some of my special single and multi colored hand-dyed stash that I've been hoarding while waiting to find patterns worthy of using it on. There are so many great patterns in this "box" with lots of really interesting textures. I love how each pattern is on a separate folded laminated card which is great for those of us that keep sock projects stashed in our purses for on-the-go knitting.
- This is a great sock book! 20 laminated patterns in a little box .Perfect for those who like hand dyed yarn., but works well for those who dont.I planned out my next 3 socks One already on the needles the day i got this book!

5 comments about The Lion Graphic Bible: The Whole Story from Genesis to Revelation.
- Wow! What a great book. This is such a helpful tool for providing the wonderful stories of the Bible in such way that is exciting and engaging for older children, teenagers and adults alike.
- I am 20 years old and I love this Bible. It's an awesome way to learn the Old Testament in a fun and easy way. The pictures make the stories come to life!
- This book is excellent. The artwork is great. The writing is wonderful. The only thing I would change would be to make it longer. It covers the most commonly told sunday school lessons stories, but there are a TON of other stories that are completely missed due to the brevity of this work. I would love to see it done as a collection book-by-book. Although some of the books would be hard to draw (especially the epistles of Paul-- where thers is no story, only concepts). Overall, I give it five stars for bringing the bible to a younger generation in an easy to read and understandable format while also being entertaining.
- Awesome summary of OT and NT, great color pictures through out. Take a bit of artistic license with a snake with legs (Gen 3), but overall stays very close to the Bible. Good for pre-teens/teens. This outshines most picture Bibles. The read and grow picture Bible is a bit more accurate, but for a younger audience.Read-N-Grow Picture Bible: A 1,872-Picture Adventure from Creation to Revelation
- The artwork and narratives are excellent. They truly capture the emotions and characters within the stories and make them engrossing. I was very impressed with this book both for its graphic art and for its comprehensive retelling of Old and New Testament stories.

- The books contained in this book are fabulous, but the book itself has some ugly pages with unresolved maximalism. With empty interviews, brief explanations on the books and boring graphics I can't give it more than a 3.

4 comments about Prints and Drawings of Kathe Kollwitz.
- This book is a great teaching aid for drawing and the transition from drawing to print processes. Great examples of the simplicity of marks necessary to create a form or mood recognisable to all. It is as much about what is left out as it is about marks made. Very dark subject matter delt with in a sensite way, a must for all for teaching and inspiration.
- This large-scale volume does a very nice job of covering many of Kollwitz's finest works...and at a very nice price, thanks to Dover Publications.
- Kollwitz was hated and persecuted by Hitler for taking the underside of humanity. She presents the real effects of modern warfare upon our defenseless civilians women and children. She presents the weary face of defenseless despair under relentless attack. She is the face which must be seen, like the courageous and proud Frida Kahlo, yet hers too weary for pride and fierce resistance.
Get this book and LOOK . . .
- Kathe Kollwitz shows real people dealing with the real problem of the Second World War. Her drawings are poignant reminders of the love and humanity that can exist in the midst of madness. She is also not afraid to show the horror of the war and the tolls it takes on its victims.
