1 comments about The Artist-Signed Postcard Price Guide, Second Edition: A Comprehensive Reference.
- Mashburn writes terrific books. His Postcard Guide is the best general book out there. He also does specialized postcard books such as this one. Anyone who collects artist-signed postcards will want this book, no question about it.
It is filled with hundreds of pages and pictures of all our favorite artists, like Harrison Fisher, Philip Boileau, Earl Christy, as well as the more obscure yet fabulous artists like Lupiac and others. He covers a variety of categories, like Beautiful Ladies, Beautiful Children, Nudes, Blacks, Sports, and Comics. He includes a reference section in the front which goes over important information such as how to determine the age of a card, grade a card's condition, and so on. My only quibble with this book is that all the inside images are in black and white, and I would have loved to see some in color. Perhaps in the next edition. If you're looking for a comprehensive reference on Artist-Signed postcards, this is the book to buy.

5 comments about Unicorns I Have Known.
- Wonderful book full of beautiful, mystical, magical photographs. Robert Vavra is one of the best in the business!
- Remember when you believed in unicorns? This book is filled with such beautiful photography that you will forget you were told not to believe.
- I have always appreciated Robert Vavra from the time I was first introduced to his art. But this particular book I have longed for about 23 years.
Beautiful, fanciful, and "fact"-filled book about a mythical noble creature that is loved so much, that few would dispute his existence.
Photos, illustrations and notes on each well-known type of unicorn is unsurpassed!
- This gorgeous book is one of the finest unicorn books I own. It has great pictures and lots of unicorn details and a unicorn searching guide. It is worth buying if you like unicorns or photography. It is worth getting Unicorn of Kilimanjaro or the Calendar if you can find them as well. It is on my list of favorite all time books, and i see a lot of them as i work at a bookstore. By this if you or someone you love likes unicorns and give the gift of magic.
- I first encountered this book when I was very young. I asked my local library to buy it and they did; and I kept checking it out again and again. Owning this book now is like looking back into my own childhood, at the dreams and the wonder I had for the world. It's beautiful pictures and startling art has never faded for me over time.

5 comments about HR Giger (Icons).
- ok, there are indeed some very odd pictures that explore sex, but oh well. this book is a pure work of art, different and grand.
- just because some art explores sex does not mean it is "porn". I love the rampant abundance of ignorance in this country. Giger is an amazing artist, if you have not experienced his work than you are surely missing out on some of the most ORIGINAL artwork of this time.
- Although not for the weak at heart, Giger explores the dark reaches of his soul and shares it to the world through his paintings. From there, one can begin to see the alien born in each of us.
- this is a great way to get introduced to Giger's work. I would recomend The Necronomicon to follow up this book and watch any of the Alien films to see how Giger's work has influenced Hollywood. Its also an extremely good price.
- After looking at the works featured in this book, I come to the conclusion that Giger is too obssesed with sex in his designs, to the stage of including porn (not art) in his work. Included in this book are sketches and drawings showing his designs are centered around sexual, skeletal, "slender", "bloat", "mechanical screws" themes. At times, I feel the artist is lacking in creativity (Yeah, I know he is a "someone" in the art world).
Even before the section, Gigerotica, there are already pictures of female figures fitted with rubber phallus (pg 48, 49), engaging in sexual union. Other pages which might be "offensive" show group sex, oral sex, self-penetration, etc... Can't help but wonder, "Isn't this more of porn that art". I think it goes beyond erotic art. If everything in this book can be called art, then I suppose you can include any photo of people having sex called art as well.

3 comments about A Handbook of Costume Drawing: A Guide to Drawing the Period Figure for Costume Design Students, Second Edition.
- This book is lame. It's black and white drawings are sloppy and they don't instruct. There is little or no instructions
This book is way over priced. Stay away from it.
- I bought this book as a gift. I was stupid enough to throw away the return slip before I realized what I bought. This is a flimsy black and white book that does not show much of any detail. There is nothing from China and Japan and maybe one exaple for every 250 years of history. There are even blank pages throughout the book for no reason. I am still going to give the book because I have nothing else to give but I know the person will be thinking that I"m a cheapskate and will never guess in a million years that I actually spent 50 bucks. I feel like I've been robbed. The reviewer that was the reason I bought the book has obviously only seen one or two books in his/her life.
- As someone who has "fallen in" to costume design, I was hoping that this would be a great reference that would help me to get my ideas across to my director, but it has done little more than show how to proportion the male and female figures correctly. I was dissapointed in the lack of technical information about drawing fabrics on the human figure. Instead of technique, it gives a very brief overview of what changed in the line of the garments and has a half silhouette on the side of the page to show how the figure changed from period to period. There are several fashion history books availible that have much better overviews and illustrations. Only a few examples on four pages are given for each period.

1 comments about Palladio and Palladianism (World of Art).
- Sir John Summerson, reviewing the book in Architecture Today, 18 December, 1998 wrote: 'Andrea Palladio, probably the most famous architect in the western world, stands at the beginning of the movement called Palladianism. So successful was the Palladian formula that it was consciously revived outside of Italy and in other times, first by Inigo Jones at the court of Charles I in the early 17th century, by Colen Campbell and Lord Burlington in the early 18th century, and by Thomas Jefferson and others in the New World. In each case, what was appealing about Palladianism was more than a matter of style: it was the fact that it expressed a way of life and a humanist philosophy, deriving ultimately from ancient Rome but enriched by the thinkers of the Renaissance and the Augustan Age. In comparison to James Ackerman's The Villa, and Paul Holberton's Palladio's Villas 'Tavernor's book is the most erudite and the best written of the three books....Tavernor has done a first-rate job. His study is the most up-to-date Palladian book currently on the market....Rudolf Wittkower would, I know, have admired Tavernor's book as much as I do.'

- The editorial review of this book at the top of the page is accurate. The artwork is not for everyone, as it is quite bizarre. The publisher, Die Gestalten Verlag has sample images from the book online if you want to be sure the style is one you'll like.
- The cover was beautiful and I expected the interior art to be beautiful as well. The book has 5 pictures of worth and rest is just garbage. I am very disspointed with this purchase.
- Este libro de imagenes es realmente sorprendente, las imagenes te transmiten mucha emoción, mucha tristeza, mucha alegría. Excelente libro de imagenes!

- Both me & my 4 year old daughter are in love with this book!
You will never get sick of looking at it, we promise!
- The magic of Friends With You truly gets the best possible overview with this new, oversized art book from German book publisher Die Gestalten Verlag. Featuring 176 pages, Friends With You Have Powers! showcases the incredible breadth of Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval's artistic output - from truly innovative toy concepts to full-room gallery installations, videos, paintings and animations.
Sweet!
- If you like Modern Art, or Toys, or Design or all three you will love this book. Not only are the photographs and the items shown a treat to browse through, the book itself is a treat to hold (and behold) with it's cushioned cover and eye catching grahics. No Modern Art Book collection would be truely complete with out this fun book and if you own even one of the great art toys this book showcases, then you MUST have it.
- Somewhere in heaven J.M. Barrie is hugging his Malfi and smiling. Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandova (AKA Friends with You) get it. There art is for kids, adults, anyone who is happy or needs to get happy. This book will put a smile on your face and make your heart feel warm and fuzzy. The worlds they create are beautiful magical places, the creates sweet and charming and friendly. The artwork is showcased beatifully, the shots are clear, it's well organized. I love this book so much. I know I sound like a 12 year-old girl talking about a puppy, but I'm a 30 year-old male talking about an art book. And that is why this book is pure magic. Please, please buy it.
- Anyone from 4 to 104 can spend a relaxing hour in this book exploring the Friends' world of imagery, and once you put it down life seems a bit easier.
