5 comments about Pure Sea Glass: Discovering Nature's Vanishing Gems.
- Not only are the pictures spectacular, the information in very complete.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in sea glass or glass in general
Beautiful book!
This book describes the product of an amazing metamorphosis - garbage, in the form of shards of broken glass transformed in to precious collectible gems by the relentless action of the sea.
I've always been fascinated by blue beach glass, sapphire shist sandblasted by the sea. By its nature it seems unimaginably rare. But as we learn in Pure Sea Glass, there are even more uncommon treasures waiting to be discovered; red, orange, yellow, teal, pink and aqua, among others.
This book provides a feast for the eyes while conveying a wealth of information. There are chapters dealing with the history of glass as well as its composition, the process by which it is weathered and conditioned, best locations to hunt for it, and on and on. On reading it one can't help but want to commence an exploration.
This is the magic of beach combing. As the Little Prince commented in the children's classic by that name, "What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well". And so it is with sea glass. Any shoreline or beach is transformed as one looks at it with the eyes of the heart in the knowledge of small but precious treasures that lie concealed.
This book is a guide to point the way.
Highly recommended.
- Very interesting book. I learned about tides and the moon and how they effect finding sea glass. The only thing I didn't like about the book is I felt it had too large a section covering bottles.
- If you love sea glass, you will love this book. Although it's filled with photos, it is also loaded with information with great examples of colors of sea glass, help on what it could have originally been and dating the glass. Beautiful and informative. This one sill stay on my coffee table and be read and read again.
- "Sea Glass" is an exquisite, informative book worthy of anyone's coffee table. The author not only offers detaiils about colors, but also the chemistry, history, and conditions behind the magic of beach glass. This is the gold standard for all who love the ocean.

5 comments about A Beginner's Guide to Kiln-Formed Glass: * Fused * Slumped * Cast.
- In this case, you CAN judge a book by its cover--A Beginner's Guide to Kilnformed Glass is a well-illustrated journey through the first year of serious kilnforming. Well-written and thoughtfully organized, it provides clear explanations of the tools, equipment, studio and materials you'll need to get started "fusing" glass. It moves through explaining basic techniques like glasscutting, layup (assembling glass or frit so that it will fuse into your design), firing and coldworking (shaping and polishing the fired piece). Don't be tempted to skip these chapters; I've been working glass for 15 years but even so, I found a few new ideas I could use in the studio. The author is a teacher, production glassmaker and artist who obviously knows her stuff (disclaimer: I've met her at several glassmaking functions so I knew she was good BEFORE I got the book).
And then the fun starts. Where many books offer simple beginner's projects that LOOK like simple beginner's projects, the projects in this book produce sophisticated and often beautiful pieces of glass. The techniques required are relatively easy to master even if you don't have much experience with glass, and there's a point to them, i.e., one project helps you understand precision cutting, another what happens when you overfire thin glass, and yet another introduces making components for larger assemblies. There are the usual drapes, plates and potmelts too, but they're well-presented. The author includes templates for each project, but clearly encourages you to use them as a starting point for your own designs. (I'm making a note to myself to try that three-tiered water fountain; it looks cool)
I do have a minor, minor quibble: This book is a good in-studio reference, especially while you're working on a project, but it's hard-bound and the pages have trouble staying flat; if there's a second printing a spiral-bound might be useful.
- i have made fused and slumped glas for 15 years, but there was still something for me to learn.......... a super bok for beginners, you will get many of the tips, you otherwise will learn by dooing........
I wish that I had begun my glass work with this book at my fingertips. Not only is the layout attractive and clear, but the topics are covered in a clear and logical manner. Her projects are imaginative, with a stretch for true beginners, but they lend themselves to application of techniques and the user's creativity. This should be in every fuser's library!
- I have not bought my kiln as of yet, but this book has given me a great deal of instruction for "how to" and I can't wait to try the projects out! Love the illustrations and project ideas. Most of the projects look fairly to somewhat simple to do....excellent beginner's book.
- The book is beautiful and does have a lot of great information and pictures. However, I think a better book to start is Contemporary Warm Glass. It costs a bit more, but it answers 99.9% of your questions.

5 comments about Basic Stained Glass Making: All the Skills and Tools You Need to Get Started (Stackpole Basics).
- I purchased this book only to learn how to cut stained glass. The book was easy to read and had plain and simple examples of how to cut stained glass. I was trying to do a stepping stone and didn't need to know anything else about working with stained glass. However, I will say that browsing through the rest of the book that I believe the book would be helpful if I had wanted to learn more aspects of working with stained glass. I like how the book is spiral bound so that I was able to set it open next to the project I was working on. All the pictures were very clear in showing you exactly what to do next.
- I haven't done stained glass in years and years. I decided to do a quick refresher and to make sure my skills and supplies were current. This book was perfect and assured me of exactly the tools i need to replace or keep.
- Although the content of this book is clearly written and comprehensive, imagine my chagrin when I visited my local copy store and was refused service when I requested that the lesson pattern pages be copied. Directions for enlargement and type of paper to be used were printed right on the pages, but permissions were not secured to allow purchasers to use the patterns pages (which are intregal to the lessons) without getting permission from the publisher. Ridiculous!!!
- Excellent photos and descriptions. I was blessed to attend classes from Michael Johnston (author) in Harrisburg. Mike is a patient man who loves his craft as much as he wants you to do your best. This book is one you will want to keep close for references; just having it on your shelf makes you more confident. Looking forward to the next book!
- This is a great book for learning to make stained glass. It doesn't get any easier than this.

5 comments about A Passion for Sea Glass.
- Wasn't quite what I expected, but I enjoyed it anyway. The stories of others passion for sea glass were wonderful. The pictures were great.
- Wonderfully illistrated, carefully choosen artists and amazing content...I absolutely loved the book and it helped in planning future art projects..
- Wonderful book-lots of great ideas-people are so creative!! Too bad beach glass is getting rare.
- Thoroughly am enjoying this book. Wonderful stories about seaglass collectors and terrific ideas for how to display all the gathered treasures.
- Author C.S. Lambert and photographer Pat Hanbery showed us the beauty of those colorful beachside finds in "Sea Glass Chronicles: Whispers from the Past." Now Lambert has gone one step farther by documenting what avid sea glass collectors *do* with all of their treasures.
Sure, dropping the sand-burnished bits into jars and letting the rays of sunshine enflame them is a perfectly wonderful fate for sea glass. But the people we meet on these pages go above and beyond that artistry. They make jewelry or wind chimes or mobiles. They assemble mosaics on tabletops or walls. One man uses sea glass to simulate the windows and doors of the gnome homes he creates. Another artist crafts panels that look much like stained glass windows, until you examine them more closely. And those are just some of the projects featured in this book. While a few of the profiles include directions for making your own artwork, the focus here is on beauty and art and imagination. Most of the artists live in Maine, as do Lambert and photographer Amy A. Wilton; but this book will have appeal for many a beachcomber, regardless of location.
"A Passion for Sea Glass" is inspirational as well as beautiful. Any coffee table would look good with both sea glass books resting on its polished surface. And by placing them there, any host would be presenting an irresistible temptation for guests to pick them up.

5 comments about Collector s Encyclopedia of Depression Glass,19th Edition (Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass).
- As always, Florence has good information on collectible glass. New to this book are pictures with numbers so we can tell which piece is which, a very helpful addition. The pictures are very good with attention to detail on the patterns. His section on reproductions is also a very helpful portion, as there are many people out there who don't know how often this glass has been reproduced. I am sad that it's his last book, as I've had several of his editions on glassware.
- Don't know how many past issues of Gene Florence's depression glass books I've got, but they are invaluable for the collector. I used to get the new edition every year, but now I just get one every 2 or 3 years. Depends on how far into your collections you are, or if you are selling. I've read books by other authors, but in my opinion, the Florence books are the most accurate and have the best photography.
- Book arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The book is extremely informative and I have been using it often. I would definately recommend buying this book if you are a depression glass collector! It has been extremely helpful in my e-Bay business.
- I am a collector/dealer that loves Depression Glass but am far from an expert. This book gave me information on some other patterns that were not in some of my other references. I have already used it some and will keep it as a great source of information in the future.
- This book is a good description and selection of Depression glass. Most of the photos are B&W with a few color plates in a section there are 225 pages with a 22 point table of contents and a decent index.
This covers glass from the early 20's through the 30's this was machine-made and fairly inexpensive. They used bright colors including ruby, amethyst, bright green, iridescent carnival orange, aquamarine, cobalt blue, pail pink and yellow. The pieces are mostly tableware.

5 comments about Kiln-Formed Glass: Over 25 Projects for Fused and Slumped Designs.
- This book was moderately informative and seemed aimed at advanced beginners. I did not find the projects appealing, but that is personal/artistic taste.
- i love this BOOK!!! really great photos, so many great Ideas, easy instructions to follow, love how everything is very easy to reproduce, I made the poppies suncatcher and its anazing!!! you won't go wrong with this book, I hope she makes more books as I pick this one up often for ideas and guide.
- As a beginner to glass art, this book has been extremely helpful in giving me ideas and showing me how to execute beautiful pieces.
- This is a beautiful book with numerous projects for fusing and slumping glass, all of which are decorative and useful.
- Bought this book as well as a few more to learn about fusing. I have just started fusing after doing stained glass for 30 years. This book is a little simplistic and goes absolutely to the beginning of cutting glass and basic tool use. However I was soon charmed by the wonderful and simple patterns for fusing. Whimsical is a good word for it. Although someday I would like to produce something truly original and artistic, this is a great and fun place to start and just have fun with it while I hone my skills. Don't over think this book and it's a lot of fun.

5 comments about Introduction to Glass Fusing.
- This book is great for beginners. I've got the "big" eye candy books as well, but always return to this one for the best firing schedules. I've got notes on almost every page and it's always the first one I grab. Also good is that it shows what a piece will look like with 2 or 3 layers of glass compared to just one. New to fusing? Get this one.
- As others say, great for beginners. I have a small kiln and most projects in the book are suitable for a small kiln. While I don't think I've actually made any of the projects in the book, I have used the firing schedules extensively. Many firing schedules you find in other books or on the web are for larger pieces and are "overkill" for pendants, 4-5" plates, etc.
- I haven't completely read this book, what I have read is helpful.
I like that it takes you through projects that teaches different fusing skills.
- never mind - i said i hadn't received the book but i think i have - it's around here somewhere. I haven't really had time to look at though, i am just getting used to the idea of trying fusing.
- I sat for hours enjoying reading this book upon receipt. The images, easy to understand text was great. I am very pleased with the book and can't wait to get started on creating glass products. Wonderful book and very informative. I would recommend it as part of anyone's library.

5 comments about Warm Glass: A Complete Guide to Kiln-Forming Techniques: Fusing, Slumping, Casting.
- I have a selection of instructional books on Warm Glass techniques, but I found this one very clear and precise. It was easy to follow and I enjoyed working with it.
- friend likes eye candy to motivate but needs technical info to actually make pieces and we got that. Thanks!
- This book is a great source of information. Comprehensive, thoroughly illustrated and graphically appealing. It is a shame the translation is a poor job. I am a translator and a potter and I am new to craft glass. I'm sure I'll use this book a lot, but I really wish it hadn't been translated from Spanish, because the English rendition is definitely not good.
- Purchased this book basically because of the title (fusing), but there really isn't alot of information about fusing and slumping. Good background on glass though.
- My friend Andy works for a local stained glass studio and teaches classes at BYU. I enjoy talking to him about stained glass and he is full of really good advice about kiln fired glass. Recently he recommended Warm Glass to me. I got it and I love it.
This volume is full of examples of work which has been created in a kiln, but it's much more, it's like a classroom in a book, a primer on what went right and what went wrong. It is by far the best book I've seen to learn about kiln fired glass.
You really need to get this book.
