1. I find this reference to be very useful, particularly on eBay where many sellers start their bidding above retail price (and try to make it seem like a bargain). It's generally on the mark, though I have found several small inaccuracies (like pieces I own that are not in the book), and their "current valuation" is out of line with real pricing. The publisher has been pretty good about responding to my queries about errors I've found, though we'll have to see the 2nd edition to see if they fix them.

   I wish it were in color, but in the interest of making the book affordable, it has only a few color plates.




2. Caithness Paperweights

   At last! The Standard Reference Book for Caithness Paperweights. This is the book for every Caithness paperweight collector.

   This catalog (524 pages) covers Caithness Glass Paperweights in Chronological order, from the Planets set issued in 1969 to the Millennium Collection released in 1999. Paperweights produced for the Caithness Glass Paperweight Collectors Society and those commissioned by businesses and museums are also included. You are bound to see some that you never knew existed.

   Each listing, accompanied by an illustration, provides the names of the paperweight, designer, date of issue, edition size, status, original and current values in US and Canadian dollars, and UK pounds. Prices are bound to change, especially with Internet access to dealers, collectors and sales.

   Information about the designers, suggestions on building a collection and information sources concerning Caithness Glass paperweights (and paperweights in general) is included.

   A listing of Collectors Clubs and Chapters around the world is in the front. As are factory shops, visitor centers and Internet customer enquiry addresses. Also included are Auction Houses, Antique Fairs and Collectible Shows.

   The most comprehensive resource guide to Caithness Paperweights. If you collect Caithness glass you need this book! My understanding is that if enough of us buy this book, the next edition will have more color pictures. As it is, most are in black and white. Still, the image quality is enough to stir the juices of any collector.

1. This is the best book of Chihuly works that I have seen. (I will assume some familiarity with the work of Dale Chihuly). Not only are the photos taken of my favourite Chihuly glassworks (the baskets), but the photos themselves are incredible. The photographer responsible for this book is incredible. The photos give a real impression of what it is like to see Chihuly glass live (and for anyone who hasn't, it is truly stunning to see). The baskets seem to be flexible in these photos, and not frozen, lifeless glass.

   The book includes a section of photos of actual baskets that inspired Chihuly. Although this section was less exciting for me, my fiancée found this part educational, it gave her an idea of what the artist had in mind when creating the glassworks. While the book is a bit expensive, when you see the size of these incredible photos, you will think it is worth it. My only complaint is that there could have been a few more photos.

1. This charming little book is not a dry collectors' manual of fine china. Rather, it is a brief overview of cups in history, with a special emphasis on 20th-century and contemporary fine artists' interpretations. Also included are humorous, kitschy flea-market finds, and other irreverent examples. Definitely the art lover's cup of tea!



2. It is ridiculous and I feel betrayed when I recieved this book. It is not expensive, but totally unecessary. I want inspirations for painting, but this one has absolutely nothing! Compare itwith Sheila Southwell and you will know why. I laughed about it, and my friends too!For this reason I'm grateful, and rated this book with 1/5 stars.



3. a great example of variations on a theme being the root of human creativity... not a book of rich people's china but an ecclectic picture book of the potter's art, commercial and yes some fine china... as a potter I find it a delight

1. Terrific book gives comprehensive look at design characteristics making it easier to identify glass maker. Very organized. The color photos are worth the price of the book! Perfect for any serious glass collector or dealer. I highly recommend.
