  1. This pictorial and descriptive reference is a great size to tuck in my purse. Because I was expecting a more elaborate book, I gave the paper back 3 stars.

1 comments about Miller's: Glass: Antiques Checklist (Miller's Antiques Checklist).

  1. This book is more than just a price book. It uses a series of questions to help you nail down just what you are looking at. In the BASICS section you find the different ingredients in Water-glass, Soda glass, Potash glass, and lead crystal. The book is small enough that I carry this with me.

    Some of the highlights are:

Uses a unique question-and -answer approach to help you identify and date genuine antique glass

Deals with fakes, copies, condition and other factors that may confuse even experienced collectors

Analyses typical items that collectors can find in shops and auction houses

    Gives Guidelines to values

Contains a wealth of background information, including an extensive glossary

Is a thorough introductory course for the beginner and also a superb refresher for those with some collecting experience.

  1. "Glass A to Z" is an excellent encyclopedia of information about glass, manufacturing processes, and manufacturers. It's alphabetical listing of topics makes it very to easy use to locate information quickly. Topics are cross-referenced as well. Topic headings are in bold print and paragraphs about the topics range in length. A handy section at the back of the text includes a section with manufacturer's marks as well. Whether you are a novice collector or a glassware buff, this is a great book to have in your library. Although the book was published in 2002, the information is timeless. Mine is well-worn from extensive use.

  2. If you want a basic, comprehensive reference manual on art glass, this is the book for you. It contains an exhaustive, alphabetic listing of every popular art glass term, technique, and manufacturer. Each listing contains detail limited to a single sentence to several paragraphs, according to the depth of the topic. Like most encyclopedias, it won't make you an expert on any one topic, but it will give you most of the basic information you will likely ever need if you want to collect or deal in art glass. Not many photos, but a lot of information.

1 comments about Whitefriars Glass: The Art of James Powell & Sons.

  1. A perfect reference for the collector with alot of colour photographs. The book tends to concentrate on the later range of glassware from Whitefriars, particularly during the Baxter era. This comes as no surprise since the book was written for the Manchester City Arts Gallery exhibition of Whitefriars glass and there was a great deal of collaboration between the books authors and the late Geoffrey Baxter. The book is quoted as a reference on alot of EBay auctions of Whitefriars glass.

1 comments about The Sevres Porcelain Manufactory: Alexandre Brongniart and the Triumph of Art and Industry, 1800-1847 (Bard Graduate Centre for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design & Culture).

  1. I have been searching for at least a decade for a book on the Sevres production during the Napoleonic Years. This book is exactly what I was looking for and the essays and tremendous illustrations are what made this book worth the search!
