3 comments about Fostoria Useful and Ornamental: The Crystal for America : Identification & Value Guide.
- This well-written, beautifully designed book offers a wealth of information on Fostoria glassware! It is logically organized and has lots of illustrations from Fostoria catalogs, plus many color pictures. It has helped me score some real "finds" from sellers who don't recognize Fostoria! It is such a valuable reference that I am on my second copy, having worn out my first!
- I had no idea that Fostoria Glass was so plentiful.
As a seller in an antique mall & on-line, I can kick myself that I have passed up so much Fostoria Glass. I have overlooked expensive cigarette holders that I thought were unusual candle holders, bowls with lids that are old cigarette holders, glass coasters, and much much more at auctions & estate sales that I could purchase for pennies on the dollar. I always thought fostoria was either made with hobbs or very fancy glass. This is not so. This comprehensive book will more than pay for itself. In the evenings, I will carefully study sections on Fostoria so I do not overlook it again. If you collect or sell glass, You NEED this book!
- Milba Long & Emily Seate's Fostoria does contain plenty of color, providing an identification and value guide for ornamental fostoria glass of all kinds. From jellies to coasters and lamps, this packs in all kinds of fostoria glass works.

- "Lalique Perfume Bottles" by Glenn and Mary Lou Utt is the definitive book on the work of the Lalique in one of the most important aspects of the family's design history. Rene Lalique designed the bottle for "l'Effleurt" for Francois Coty, originating the concept of a specific bottle designed for a single fragrance. Lalique later produced bottles that would house any of Coty's dozens of scents, but the concept of individuality in presentation was born in 1907.
The book is thorough in its descriptions and its pictures. Every flacon mentioned is illustrated, and there is a table in the back which lists them all as well. There are two drawbacks to the first edition: There are some errors - pieces listed that are not in fact by Lalique, and some older designs have come to light. Much of this was dealt with in an addendum given to attendees at the International Perfume Bottle Collector convention in Atlanta in 1991, which may or may not be available elsewhere. The second drawback is that it was written in 1990, before a boom in perfume bottle collecting, which included the release of Lalique's own fragrance in 1994. Bringing the first edition up to date would mean including the changes made in 1991, and adding more recent designs. Fortunately, other than the colored stoppers of the classic double dove bottle for "L'air du Temps," the only new styles are those produced by Lalique either for their main crystal line, or for their own four fragrances. I hope that the book is updated, I will be eager to add it to my collection.

5 comments about Standard Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass.
- This is un important and complete carnival glass book.
Really first class information, and a good table of prices.
- The color pictures are numerous and nice....the price guide in the back is a pain...it would be much better if the prices were on the same page as the picture. I think the price paid for this book was more than fair.
- Granted, the color pictures do make for a nice book, however, I found many of the pictures to not show the pattern clearly. Sometimes it was the item they chose to show that caused the difficulty--patterns on cups, candlesticks, and vases do not give me what I need to see to verify the pattern on a bowl. I believe a bit more variety of pictures is need for many of the patterns. I would rather see a picture of a collection with a clear detail of the pattern. As far as the price guide goes, at first I found it inconvenient to flip to the back of the book to check the prices, but I got used to it and put up with it. Carnival glass resources are few, so this book is out there, but in my opinion, it's not a great book or a good value.
- This Edwards & Carwile Encyclopedia is an excellent reference book for the "Carnival Glass" enthusiast. It has clear color photos, large print, is alphabetically listed, has informative descriptions, and a detailed price list. I never go shopping for carnival glass without taking this book; it's a necessary shopping guide. I always find the piece shown, described, and priced in this book. SM
- Bill Edwards and Mike Carwile's Standard Encyclopedia Of Carnival Glass, 7th Edition is packed with small but clear color photo examples of glass collector's pieces, with paragraphs of discussion lending insights on makers and products. Insights on the influences of value - such as better color for glass pieces - are present throughout.
