3 comments about The Collector's Guide to Inkwells: Identification & Values.

  1. THE BOOK DOES NOT HELP COLLECTORS OF CZECH BOHEMIAN IRIDESCENT INKWELLS. FIRST, THERE ARE ONLY 8 EXAMPLES IN THE BOOK. THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TOO DARK AND DO NOT CAPTURE THE BEAUTY OR TEXTURE OF THE GLASS. BUT WORSE, THE INFORMATION IS WRONG. INKWELLS CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE GERMAN PATENT MARK, D.R.G.M. ARE LABELED 'AMERICAN." IN ONE INSTANCE, TWO INKWELLS MADE OF THE SAME GLASS ARE CALLED RESPECTIVELY 'AMERICAN" AND "EUROPEAN." THE AUSTRIAN MARK OE.P COMES OUT "DEP." AT LEAST THEY ARE CALLED "LOETZ-TYPE," WHICH IS ACCURATE, SINCE NONE OF WAS MADE BY LOETZ. A GOOD BARGAIN BOOK TO LOOK AT PICTURES, BUT DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE ESPECIALIST.

  2. This is Badders' second volume of magnificent color plates of inkwells. This one contains 757 photos, some of which are alternate views of the same inkwell. Those who have Volume one are probably not even bothering to read this review. They ordered this companion book immediately and are at this moment drooling over the beautiful inkstands, looking for those that are similar to the ones in their collection.

  3. Badders' book is a pure delight for the collector of inkstands and ink bottles. It has 502 colored plates which will have the collector/reader drooling and upon discovering a match for one in his collection feeling that superb sense of satisfaction only a true inkwell lover can understand.

Badders has included inkwells of many varied compositions, and unlike the very few other books on the subject, has included the range of value of each item.

4 comments about Antique and Collectible Marbles.

  1. This is an excellent referance book for early hand made German and American marbles. It is well illistrated and easy to follow. It is not meant for marbles manufactured after the late 1920's. A must have for marble collectors.

  2. I was disappointed not only in the size of this price and identification guide for marbles, but also in the marbles that were covered. I was looking for a guide that would help me identify older, but more common marbles, not so many pages on sulphides with characters encased and rare marbles.

  3. This book has beautiful pictures and is a nice introduction into marble collecting. However, it is not very helpful in identifying your marbles. There are pictures of different manufacture's marbles but enough information to teach you how to tell them apart yourself.

  4. This book IS marble collecting made easy. It's easy to understand with very clear pictures and text. The pictures are fantastic. I had picked up some old marbles in an auction boxlot and this book really made it possible for me to identify the valuable ones. It has to be the LEAST dry and boring antique reference book I've ever found. I highly recommend it!

1 comments about Collectible Glassware from the 40S, 50S, and 60s: An Illustrated Value Guide (Collectible Glassware from the Forties, Fifties, and Sixties).

  1. This is another important addition to my library of collectible, kitchenware and depression glass books.

More than 40 new patterns are included and pricing and many pictures have been updated. I like the alphabetical listing because it is easy to find the patterns I'm looking for.

As an avid collector, I find this book invaluable in helping me pay reasonable prices for my collectible glassware.

I would give this book a 5 star rating if it had more information on Fenton's Hobnail pattern. This pattern is often wrongly identified with other similar hobnail glass pieces and it would help me immensely if the pictured pieces showed the manufacturer's number.

I heartily recommend this book to collectors and dealers.

5 comments about Warman's Depression Glass: A Value And Identification Guide.

  1. The book has a good indication of the value of today's worth.
Good for the beginner of Depression Glass investigating.

  2. This publication is very useful to me because I am a beginner collector and it contains the information needed to identify true depression glass pieces.

  3. This is the second book I have purchased on depression glass. The first was the book by Gene Florence. This book is much easier to see the designs. It has a shape guide that is very helpful as well as a box on each pattern with a black and white illustration of the pattern of the plate. If you just buy one book on depression glass, this should be it.

  4. HERE IS A BOOK THA TPLACES ANYTHING GENE FLORENCE HAS PUT OUT TO SHAME. EASY TO USE. MANY PATTERNS THAT FLORENCE NEVER "BOTHERS" WITH. IF YOU ARE NEW OR A SEASONED PRO WITH DEPRESSION GLASS. HERE IS A BOOK THAT WILL HELP!!!!!!

  5. This brand new, 256 page soft bound volume contains over 150 black and white photos and more than 400 full color, large, sharp photos. It covers more than 150 of the most popular Depression glass patterns and offers more than 10,000 up-to-date values !! The book's layout is nice, with very large colorful headings in each section. There's a good introduction to the collectible, and interesting and useful company time-lines, color time-lines, resources, references, color identification guide, shape guide and thumbnail guide. These tools will help you locate the things you seek. Patterns and items range from Adam, American Fostoria, Cloverleaf, Dewdrop and Fire King, to Petalware, Pineapple, Queen Mary, Radiance, Waterford and Windsor. The book is designed to be useful for the novice as well as the expert. Ellen Schroy is truly an expert when it comes to antique glassware. This updated book has a lot to offer depression glass enthusiasts. Add it to your collectibles library. You'll find it easy-to-use and fascinating.

1 comments about Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass: American Classics (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass by Thomas P. Dimitroff is a monumental book. The photographs are fully documented with dates, shape numbers, descriptions, measurements, etc. The text is complete with footnotes. It is a beautiful coffee table book as well as a scholarly text. Information relating to identification and the relative rarity of the various types of glass Carder designed is examined in detail making it a "must have" for collectors, appraisers, or anyone with an interest in Steuben glass.

4 comments about Jadite: An Identification and Price Guide.

  1. I LOVE MY JADITE BOOK, IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE AND EASY TO USE TO IDENTIFY AND PRICE ANTIQUE PIECES. I COULDN'T FIND THIS BOOK ANYWHERE EXCEPT AT AMAZON.

  2. Co-written by expert antiques dealers Joe Keller and David Ross, Jadite: An Identification And Price Guide informatively examines and showcases Jadeite dinnerware from the 1930s to the mid 1970s. Gorgeous full color photographs are combined with a comprehensively researched price guide to make for a marvelous compendium of Jadite works. Highly enjoyable for armchair connoisseurs of practical art and devoted collectors alike, Jadite is exhaustive, authoritative, "user friendly", and enthusiastically recommended.

  3. One of the things I hate about price guides is the pricing. So many authors price items by what they have and what they want to have. If they have it, it's worth a fortune. If they want to have it, it's not worth anything. The reason for this is simple. If they want to sell something they have the price has been established and they'll ask the price in their book. It they don't have it and want it they price it low so they can buy it inexpensively. Keller and Ross don't do that. They are out there shopping, doing shows, going to auctions and their prices are generally right on the mark. That's a tremendous help to both collectors and dealers. The other great thing about the book is the photos. There are lots of them so it makes it easy to identify the pieces you have or are looking to buy. I like the organization by category which makes it easy to look up itemsIf you're a collector or a dealer this book is well worth the price.

  4. This book has awesome photography with accurate color and well conceived layouts. It is well organized and easy to use as a reference and pricing guide. I would highly recommend this book to both the novice collector and the seasoned veteran.

5 comments about Anchor Hocking's Fire-King and More: Identification and Value Guide Including Early American Prescot and Wexford (Anchor Hocking's Fire-King and More).

  1. THIS BOOK IS GREAT TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY TRUE FIRE KING GLASSWARE. I'VE NOT FOUND THIS BOOK ANYWHERE ELSE BUT AT AMAZON. I'M SO GLAD YOU OFFERED IT, IT HAS BEEN NOT ONLY INTERESTING BUT VERY INFORMATIVE WHEN PURCHASING FIRE KING.

  2. If you are just starting antiquing and are active in buying and selling glassware, you really need this knowledge. You see a piece of Fireking you have never seen before and the seller want $5 for it. Will you get a bargain or a piece you will live with forever? This book has pictures, sizes and realistic pricing on Anchor Hocking glassware. You can finally find out what that strange piece of glass you bought was used for. If you shop e-bay you can find out that those four Big Top Goblets listed for sale are really tumblers as I did this week.
If you want to sell glassware on E-bay this book will pay for itself. I just wish they would add to the book. I'd pay more. It would be worth it. The book has paid for itself in a month.

  3. I have been an avid glass collector for years, and just recently began collecting vintage tableware and cookware too. This is my first book on the subject, and the informational text is only surpassed by the wonderful pictures of all my favorite pieces that I currently own, or hope to soon. This book covers alot of ground on the history of each piece, collection and patterns that are out there. In this particular editon, I found the section on Early American Prescut and Wexford, two of my favorites in pattern, particularly informational. I also found out information on some pieces I've had for years and knew nothing about too, which is always a fun and enlightening experience. ..............While the pricing gives you a rough idea of what pieces are worth, you need demand and a a buyer to get the value. Of course that is only when a piece is mint. .............. Price guide aside, if you are just an a person like me, who enjoys hunting down and amassing collectible glass and glassware for the sheer joy of surrounding yourself in it's beauty, as opposed to those folks who just buy everything they can find to make a profit, or do a bit of both, this and all Gene Florence editions will no doubt fascinate you too.

    Just a wonerful book overall!
