5 comments about Lonely Heart: The Art Of Tara McPherson.
- I really LOVE this book! From start to finish, I LOVE everything about this book-Tara's dedication "To everyone who has loved and lost"; Frank Kozik's wonderful Foreword speaking about the appreciation of an art culture and discovering such a unique artist like Tara McPherson; to all of the amazing rare & hard to find works of Tara Mcpherson's art this book features...this book is truly a must have!!! This book does not have a great deal of text...The most text you'll find in this book is the Foreword by Frank Kozik, which says everything that needs to be said! This book focuses on the art, which for me is a breath of fresh air as Tara's beautiful, intense, colorful art speaks for itself! "LIFE IS ART & ART IS LIFE"...I found that to be the case with this book, which I love seeing being an artist myself...to find an artist like Tara who shares her life through her art...what a gift! I purchased a couple of copies of this book, because I am a fan of Tara's art & this book FEATURES some of her SOLD OUT, RARE & HARD TO FIND Paintings, Prints, Posters, drawings, an interview with Tara & some of her personal photos which is a nice personal touch!
Nerdy BirdLonely Heart: The Art Of Tara McPherson
- This compilation of Tara McPherson's work is simply amazing.
I could spend hours pouring over the pages.
She's so talented and this book is a must have for any Tara fan.
Very decent price also.
- Love, light as the air, but sometimes as dark red as the blood running through your veins (see my customer images).
"This book is dedicated to everyone who has loved and lost" reads Tara McPherson's dedication on the first page.
Love, broken hearts, innocence and its loss, yet neverending hopes and dreams come to mind when I look at these drawings.
Tara's work is beautiful, seems innocent at first sight. The colors - mostly pastel - at first have you think you're in bubble gum heaven. But you don't need a second look to discover the deeper and often darker side in Tara's art.
Tara created posters for bands like Supergrass, Green Day, Dandy Warhols, The Hives, The Strokes, Duran Duran and Suzanne Vega, Josh Rouse, Elvis Costello, PJ Harvey, and various covers for DC Vertigo.
The book contains beautiful reproductions of posters, portraits, comic book pages, drawings, roughs, an interview with Tara, polaroids, and a foreword by the legendary Frank Kozik.
A beautiful gift!
- Tara McPherson is a NY based artist who seems to gently dominate all of the fields she works in.
She's made her mark in Comic Books, Poster Art, vinyl toy design and fine art. This book collects a body of work from sketch to finished piece, including transparent layover pages that bring her process to life. And for it's very affordable price, should be on every art collector's shelf.
- This book is fantastic, the quality of the colours is great and i love the tracing paper pages that show the process from drawing to prints. Tara Mcpherson is an inspiring modern artist, I am a high school teacher and my students love this book.

2 comments about Modern Art: Impressionism to Post-Modernism.
- This solid introduction to the modern painting tells and depicts a little bit of everything. The writing and publishing are good to a satisfaction of an average reader. It does not seem to have much of competition in its class.
- I just purchased this book, it looks wonderful. It has the quality of a textbook, but it does not read like a textbook. that is to say it does not drone on and on, it reads well for those who have an interest in modern art. I cover all the periods of modern art and gives concise background to the artists and events of the perod in which the mode of art occurred.
I highly reccomend this book.

- Such an interesting book. I you're into fashion, mainly not so mainstream fashion, but a little different, this is the book for you. Ralph Rucci is such a talented designer. I cannot aford any of his clothes but I look at the pictures in this book all the time. I sew too and I am fascinated with his talent. You won't be dissapointed with this book, I hope.
- Terrific. I've bought his clothes for years and love his timeless works. Looks as if he has been discovered which is great for him and costly for me.

5 comments about The End of Print: The Grafik Design of David Carson.
- This is a great book that shows the examples of one of the most influential designers today. David Carson's design show how he breaks the rules of typography and design using his deconstructive design. Because he break the rules I would not recommend this book to a beginner. It is more geared towards some one who has already learned the basics of design and looking for inpsiration. I found that out the hardway.
- I just loved this book, it's a different kind of graphic design, but yet original and something i had never seen before,
- All I can say is that this book is timeless.. I have bought it twice, once, when it first came out and second, when I emigrated to another country as I couldn't find another resource as stimulating....it is still is as 'fres'h as when I first viewed it..'Trek' is another good recommendation...pushing the boundaries but relating them to fundamental basic graphic design principles..the computer is only a tool ..remember that!
- David Carson is the only original designer since the Bauhaus. His work breaks the mold of the ever increasingly boring grids. Enough can't be said for his contributions to print, type, and web design. He is in a class by himself. Yes, there alot of wannabes now. But it all started with Carson. It is seldom that there is a true original, especially in the tight laced world of graphics. He is the singular, groundbreaking designer that changed the face of things.
- As a graphic designer I think this book doesn't add anything in this field. I read lots of reviews about this book and they all said that it is magnificent that's why I bought it, but it is really a waste of money and time. The book and the images in the book will just tell you that David Carson is different and he has an odd taste in the typography nothing more or less.
I didn't get any inspiration or any benefits form the ideas in this book. My honest advice to you, if you are thinking of buying "End of Print" don't do it, instead buy anthoner typography or graphic art books which is going to be much more useful than this one

2 comments about Retail Buying (8th Edition).
- I bought this book for my merchandising principles class at the fashion school. I never once referred to this book for any information. If you're interested in learning about retail buying and the accounting principles and math behind it, I would recommend purchasing a book that is specifically for that purpose. Usually, in accounting and mathematics books, there are general summary of the industry and practices, then they delve into the quantitative portion. There is no use getting this book. It will put you to sleep. FAST!
- Diamond and Pintel's 5th Edition continues to focus solely on Retail Buying for the Fashion (softlines) industry. The focus is on high end retailers Macys, Nieman Marcus and The Limited. There is only cursory mentions of other retail types.
While some of their basic principles are sound, the technology is 20 - 30 years behind the times. Therefore, a student interested in improving their marketability is sorely served by text that constantly refers to paper forms, "the growing use of computers" and the increased use of the UPC. Only a good read if you are interested in how retail fashion buying was conducted in the 1970's.

5 comments about The Ultimate Picasso.
- For many years I've been a great admirer of Pablo Picasso's work. Whenever I travel I always look for Picasso's museums or General Art Museums where Picasso's works are displayed. As a result of these trips I've gathered panflets, brochures and many books focusing different phases of the artist. However something was missing! And that would be a comprehensive overview that could be able to explain and make sense of his imense and brilliant lifelong work and at the same time to show magnificent reproductions! congratulations to the author who was very successful in her enterprise!
- This is a great book. It's chock full of illustrations--so many that they just quit offering text every few pages to let the images catch up. It goes through his entire life, showing the art he created for each section. It's great, insightfull, a huge folio-sized book and just an all around great read/see.
- I took this book out of our university library to have on hand while reading Françoise Gilot's "Living with Picasso", in order to see representations of the artwork to which she refers throughout the book. "The Ultimate Picasso" proved invaluable. Not only does it contain Picasso's complete major works, they are also presented in chronological order which made look-up easy despite Gilot's often describing an artwork and the process used to create it but not always giving its title (she always gives dates). I ordered "The Ultimate Picasso" before the library due date because I couldn't bear to not have the book in my house!
The photos of the artwork are brilliant and crisp, and the accompanying text is informative.
You will not be disappointed by this book.
- this book rocks so much it breaks the very laws that govern physics!! so much information, so many beautiful pictures, so dense. it seems to capture the very spirit of pablo picasso. it was give to me as a valentine's day gift, and it is one of my most prized books. this is a MUST purchase for any picasso fan.
- To see tons of Picasso works in one book is nothing short of breathtaking. This is easily the best Picasso book that focuses on his paintings. What's incredible is to see the prolific amount of work he was capable of, and just what a inventive genius he was. Without a doubt the greatest Artist of the 20th century. Not all the works make sense, or are even recognizable as anything, but that was Picasso; his art was how he viewed the world, and how his own heart felt inside:confused, and out of place. His Cubism is nearly mathmatical, and very intriguing. IF you're interested in Picasso as more than that weird guy who made all those paintings i just don't get, come and check out this book to see all of what he was made of. You'll be amazed and inspired.
