2 comments about Ironwork Today: Inside & Out.
- Excellent resource and extremely diversified in applications covered.
Very well presented and a great addition to my ever expanding library on art, craft and trade. Come to think of it, it's all encompassed into one activity ie. Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder.
Fantastic!
- The artist-blacksmith's world comes to life in a survey of those who shape iron into lovely works of art as well as useful objects. No longer is the blacksmith regulated to horseshoes and repairs: today they produce architectural embellishments and public art and here over four hundred color photos illustrate such objects, which appear both in public and in the home. A lovely set of inspirational ironwork pieces makes for a winning survey.

1 comments about Cutler Anderson Architects.
- James Cutler makes his home on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, where he is able to carry out his work in relative privacy . This monograph is the second to exhibit the work he has become famous for - a bare bones Northwest vernacular that owes as much to his Pennsylvania roots as it does to the Pacific Northwest. It is readily apparent that Cutler studied under Louis Kahn in the exacting details he demands in all his projects. He now has the luxury to pick and choose his clients which have include Bill Gates. You get a small glimpse of the Gates estate in the Entry Turnaround in Medina, Washington. He and Peter Bohlin worked on the project together, setting up a sawmill on the site to cut the recycled timber to their specifications. As Cutler once said, I never look at the same detail twice, re-examining the methods and materials of construction anew in each project he undertakes.
With the introduction of Bruce Anderson to the firm, he has begun to investigate pre-fabricated housing in the form of the Lindal Cedar Home, but you can see that it is the unique individual homes which he relishes. He experimented with rammed-earth construction in the Residence at Meteor Vineyards in Napa Valley, creating a unique marbled finish; but it is projects like the Schmidt Residence that bear his signature in the intricate woodwork and metal connections. This book provides you with a short but thorough look into several of the projects, illustrating that James Cutler is one of the leading architects of his generation.

1 comments about Renaissance.
- This is an excellent introduction to the development of renaissance art. The book begins by examining the religio-cultural origins of the Italian renaissance in the 13th and 14th centuries. It then travels through Italy, encompassing the movement in Florence, Venice and Rome, examining the reasons behind artistic developments through the artists and their sometimes notorious employers. The tone is lively and witty throughout and never less than intelligent. The author clearly has a great reverence for his subject and conveys this love throughout without ever becoming overly sentimental. The photographic reproduction of the artworks discussed is also superb and unlike many books definitely follows the text so thereader has no difficulty following the arguments that Graham-Dixon puts forward. Well worth reading

2 comments about Peerless Images: Persian Painting and Its Sources.
- the book give good explanation to every image and it was print in high quality
- this is the most wonderful story of the Persian painting, including references, both pictorial and textual, to pre-Islamic greater Persia.
The images are of great quality, listed in contextual order, from everyday life to mythology and literature.
Printing quality is great and colors are nicely reproduced.
In sum a must for anyone seeking a concise yet scholarly account of the history of Persian miniature. Chapeau bas to Mr Marshak, the author, and company.

2 comments about American Arts and Crafts Textiles.
- If you are looking for a "picture" book of American Arts & Crafts Textiles and designs, this will be a big disappointment. Although there are a few excellent photographs, most are so small that it is almost impossible to clearly see details.
- I read this beautiful and glorious book front to back. I was quickly taken back to the turn of the century by the authors' rich and flowing text. The historic photograghs and textiles, both museum and privately owned examples, just added more layers of interest to an already thought provoking saga....I learned why I was seduced by their intricate designs and magic performed by two fingers and silk floss. Love poured into the flax, stitch by stitch.
The academic research has been carefully and exhaustingly accomplished. A mindful spirit of the authors who take you page to page revealing the movement of these dedicated women and the heritage they created for us and the preservation of their past. I learned so much from this lovingly and tirelessly crafted book. It is a book that will be frequently opened, just to treat my eyes and gaze upon the linens that I love so much. I highly recommend you treat yourself if you any interest in the Arts and Crafts design or the art textiles.. It is the benchmark for any future work. Thank you Dianne and Tim for your passion and love.
