1 comments about Giorgio Morandi: The Art of Silence.
- I found the book to be very revealing about the misconceptions of the artist Morandi. It gives the political and cultural backgrounds of the artist's life in Italy. It traces the hopes of fascism and its ultimate disappointments.
While revealing much about the life and times of the artist it leaves the mystery and beauty of his work intact. Knowing about the forces against him made me more appreciative of his unigue gift.
I would have liked to see more reproductions of the paintings mentioned in the text. I get annoyed reading about a painting I can't see for my self.
Over all I found it a rewarding reading experience.

5 comments about Designing with Kanji: Japanese Character Motifs for Surface, Skin & Spirit.
- What a great book! The presentation of multiple styles definitely caught my eye as I fanned through the book the first time; I was hooked! The introduction is very well written, and each page thereafter imparts a wealth of information that is simply a joy to read.
I love "power" words - single words that encompass my thoughts and feelings - and kanji characters are a beautiful way to express them. I found 'Designing with Kanji' in my effort to design my next tattoo. When I did not find exactly what I was looking for in the book, I contacted Leza and she promptly responded with the characters I needed. Great book - great woman!
- This book is wonderful if you are going to get a tattoo of a certain Kanji it has tons to choose from. I use this book almost everyday.. this is by far one of my best purchases.
- I have been an admirer for Oriental Culture, and willing to understand Chinesse and Japanese writing. This book is an excellent source which explains a lot of Kanji symbols, and has several notes about interesting facts about it. I recommend it to all people looking to introduce themselves into this enigmatic and wonderful language.
Antonio Sobalvarro
- Easy to read, follow, and use right away. Shows formal, modern, flowing, and stylish character sets. Describes the root, meaning, and nature of common Japanese words and phrases. The calligraphy is excellent. I only wish it was longer and more encompassing. Among other things I use this book as a supplement to Write Your Name in Kanji text by Nobuo Sato to write the characters more elegantly.

- We had recently seen "The Last Samuri" so I was in the frame of mind to learn more about Japanese history and culture. I found this book on the Breakfast table one recent morning. The introduction and explanation of Kanji was clear and concise. This book provided a great beginning to the subject of how a culture influenced a language and how a language influenced a culture. I couldn't put it down for an hour or so. I'll refer to it often.

3 comments about Go to Your Studio and Make Stuff: The Fred Babb Poster Book.
- Fred Babb's book "Go to Your Studio and Make Stuff" is an excellent source of paintings and essay about being an artist. I use them for inspiration and reflection in my classroom. I get many comments from my art students and the classroom teachers.
- I am seeking to purchase a second of this book to keep intact so I can use the posters in my art classroom. This book gives a whimsical, colorful, poignant, yet serious look at Art from the viewpoint of Fred Babb. The illustrations are unique and portray the attitude of the artist well. A "must have" for anyone interested in making a comment on art for adults as well as children!
- This book has renewed my faith in art and life. Mr. Babb has a true sense of what it takes to be an artist in this "dog eat dog world". I am praying for second book for this master of humor and insightfulness.

5 comments about Shape Of My Heart (Art & Poetry Series).
- It is clear that Sting loves Picasso's Art but this book is not but a small step in the very long path trought the human heart that the two atrists shared in so many points.
Just a blink: a little thing that doesn't show the glory of Sting and Picasso. Quite an artificial mirror. Let's continue searching, we will find a much greater treasure.
- Okay, so Sting and Picasso didn't really collaborate together on this, but the combination of Sting's lovely lyrics and Picasso's abstract art results in an absolute treasure of a book. This beautiful book is a wonderful way to appreciate (or be introduced to) the work of two diverse artists. In this context, Sting's lyrics really demonstrate their worth as poetry.
Parents beware, however, that some of the art work contains some of Picasso's dark images and some nudity. It may not be something you leave on the coffee table, though it is a beautiful book. The Art and Poetry Series is a great idea, well executed. I recommend picking up other titles in the series.
- I bought this book for a friend of mine. It was a perfect mix of art and words. The Picasso's are perfect for the lyrics. I have a few of these books and they are nice for any art lvoer's collection.
- he plays for us all. Sting's song is a haunting, beautifully composed melody from one of the most intelligent song-writers of contemporary times; beautifully if not always ideally complemented by Picasso's artwork. The marriage of poetry and art was slightly more successful in the case of Matisse and Leonard Cohen (Dance Me To The End of Love), and in the case of Cummings and Chagall (May I Feel? Said He), but it is still of a very high standard. Had I not already experienced the other two books, I would certainly have believed that this was the best of its type. The layout and font is as always, perfectly chosen, and the book is a great pleasure to look at, like all the books in this series. It is a must-buy by any standard, anyhow! A friend tells me that this is the song played in the film "Leon", so there's a film which I must watch in the future! I hope that everyone who enjoyed this book goes on to find the rest of the books in this sequence, and discovers what a really good combination of words and images can be like.
- The beautifully printed and organized "Shape of My Heart" is a tribute both to the allusive, poetic strength of Sting's writing, and the enigmatic, evocative art of Pablo Picasso. The Picasso paintings follow the lines of the Sting song "Shape of My Heart," which can be heard on his album Ten Summoner's Tales. Listening to this song while flipping through the book is truly a beautiful and moving experience, and one of the few times I know of that visual arts and music truly come together. This would make a great gift for a friend, either artist or musician or poet; as well as something for yourself, for the moments when you're wondering what the shape of your heart is. Melancholy, brooding perhaps, but also profoundly affirming, this is an effective piece of art as well as literature.
