2 comments about Fabric Reference (3rd Edition).
- My spouse is an avid quilt enthusiast that has for some time wanted to delve more into fabrics, their manufacture and individual characteristics. My gift to her of this standard reference work gives her the long awaited opportunity to really understand the materials before she designs a new quilt. She can now also select new and different fabrics for their inherent characteristics rather than only select "off the shelf" fabrics usually found at most fabric shops.
- The Fabric Reference, along with the Fabric Glossary provides the best comprehensive reference of basic textiles that you can obtain anywhere in today's market. To make it a perfect reference set, you can purchase the Fabric Glossary Swatch Set directly from Ms. Humphries, which provides fabric samples to be taped into the Fabric Glossary while giving the history, manufacturing (weave, knit, lace, etc.) description and fabric content for each swatch allowing for a realistic study of fabrics. This Fabric Glossary can be continually added to as you find new fibers and fabrics - keeping an updated reference at your finger tips.
These boks are a must for fabric designers, interior designers, pattern drafters and anyone interested in fabrics or textiles, this is a three part set, which when purchased becomes all inclusive. It is rare to find any books on textiles where you can actually touch the fabrics, providing a realistic knowledge of specific make-up and texture of the fabrics. I searched for years to find a book which I could use to give a compressive overview of the textile industry, before I found Ms. Humphries set of books, and I have been using it for the past three years as the foundation of my college course. Please note that in the fall of 2003, the third revision came out and it provides a wealth of information about the new micro-fibers that are found in today's market. This three part set (2 parts you can purchase from this company and the swatch set you need to purchase separately - information to do this, is in each book) is the best reference of textiles available.

1 comments about Goddess: The Classical Mode (Metropolitan Museum of Art Series).
- This is an exhibition catalogue for the Metropolitan Museum of Art costume institute. It chronicles the influence the fashions of ancient Greece and Rome has had in more modern times on women's costume.
Printed on a very nice matt paper (even for photos) it contrasts examples of ancient art such as statues and painted vases with the work of later fashion designers. We get examples of the work of Halston, Madame Gres, Prada, Liberty, Dior and Mariano Fortuny just to name a few. This book is as much a photographic essay as is it is an exhibition catalogue. It has been produced in an elegant style with full page photos one side and text on the other giving it a clean and uncluttered feel. Recommended if you have any interest in ancient costume and its impact on later fashion design.

2 comments about Music Business Handbook and Career Guide.
- As hard as it is to put artist and business person in the same body, anyone who wants to succeed as a musician must at least try. This book is a comprehensive and practical resource to use. I would use it, however, in conjunction with other resources that can provide complementary information and updates on how the music business is changing today.
- I had this as a textbook in my Intro to Music Industry Studies at college. It gives you all the basic aspects of the music industry, including jobs, marketing and a bunch of other stuff. It doesn't go into great depth so if you're wanting a more detailed view of how the music industry works I suggest that you try to find another book to buy separately or go along with this. It includes all of the basic terms necessary for the business of recording, marketing, merchandising, etc.

5 comments about Art & Creative Development for Young Children.
- The book was the correct edition for the class I was taking and arrived as expected. No problems.
- I purchased the book as required reading for a college class. It was easy to read, nice layouts on each page, highlighted areas focused on interesting information. Each chapter ends with review questions which I also found helpful.
- I am taking a class right now about the art expereinces of young children and this is the required text for the class. I must say the book is very impressing. It goes quite into detail about the vast benefits of art for young children and also the developmental stages and such. The great thing about this book is that in each chapter it has TONS of projects and ideas that you can implement in your classroom in the future. There are also lots of recipes for several types of playdough (edible, smelly, etc.) and other things. It's such a great resource...I'm not selling this book back! :-)
The book is also an easy read for those who hate reading textbooks. Half of each chapter is filled with ideas and such which probably are not neccessary when you read the chapter unless of course your teacher/professor will test you over them which mine does not. Anyways I highly reccommend the book to those in the early childhood art field right now. All the ideas in the book make it very worthwhile. I can't wait to graduate so I can use it in my own classroom! ^_^
- I had to get Art & Creative Development for Young Children for a Early Childhood Class. It was easy and interesting book of knowledge.
- This book guides early childhood educators through the concept of implementing early childhood art into their classrooms. It is very helpful in showing teachers how to focus on the "process" not the "product". There are also many wonderful ideas for special needs children, and for adding multicultural art experiences into the classroom.

3 comments about Logo Design That Works: Secrets for Successful Logo Design (That Works Series).
- I bought this book to help me in a class I was taking. This gave me ideas and a jumping off point. The history of logos helped me understand my assignment better.
Since I am finished with the class, however, I don't foresee using this book again until I have to design a logo for a job or a client.
Logical conclusion: great reference book if you need help in a pinch.
- this book is a very useful guide. i am a junior designer and i appreciate the details and stories that are provided for the logos in this book. whats just as important as the final project, is the process a designer goes thru to achieve the end result. this book does a good job at providing insight to that conceptual process.
- I love this book, and refer to it often. It has tons of logo illustrations, along with the idea behind the design of the logo. Some logos even include the brainstorm/mockup sketches that were made to show to the client, so you know what was going through the designer's head. It is so great to see how other designers think. It also has timelines that go through certain logos that have been around a very long time, and shows the changes that they've gone through. A must-have for anyone who wants to try logo design.
