- Is extremely modern, the information is convincing and the point of view of the book is futuristic.

1 comments about Architecture in the United Kingdom (Architecture (Taschen)).
- The overall view of the book is considered to be an excellence book.
There are a few projects that need to have drawing documentation and in my preferences drawings could be bigger but they are readable.
The photographs in this book are excellent representation of the essence of the projects under the study cases. Perhaps the narratives could include deeper conclusions of the architect's ideas-to explain the arrival of their conclusions.

- This book is good for beginneres, but I didn't find all that much new info and I found it somewhat repetitious throughout, like the authors needed fillers.

4 comments about Unbuilding: Salvaging the Architectural Treasures of Unwanted Houses.
- This is a good resource for ideas. It reminded me more of one of the books you would find on the rack of a home center instead of a text book like it was marketed.
- We live in an age of recycling. It's not only environmentally sound, but economically profitable. This applies just as much to reusable and salvageable building materials from structures scheduled for demolishing, as it does to ordinary newspapers and soda cans. Now U.S. Forest Products Laboratory research engineer Bob Falk has teamed up with Brad Guy (Director of Operations at The Hammer Center at the Penn State School of Architecture) to publish "Unbuilding: Salvaging the Architectural Treasures Of Unwanted Houses" an instruction guide to salvaging materials that can be reused and recycled from homes and other buildings by literally and carefully dismantling the original structures piece by piece. These materials can include ornate hardware, period lighting fixtures, windows, doors, mantels, hardwood flooring, and anything else that continues to have esthetic and commercial value. Often these are 'yesteryear' items that cannot be matched by anything available to day and have great financial worth in and of themselves. The authors draw upon their many years of expertise and experience in advising about new tools, deconstruction processes, and alternatives to conventional demolition tactics. "Unbuilding" is strongly recommended to the considered attention of building contractors, demolition experts, and environmentally conscious salvagers, as well as non-specialist general readers with an interest in recycling building materials for their value, utility and esthetics.
- I've always liked the idea of salvaging architectural details from building being torn down. Now here's a book that goes way beyond merely saving a fireplace mantel or some columns. Here's what it covers:
Chapter 1 Unbuilding Opportunities
Redevelopment
Rural Property
Military Bases
Urban Renewal
Remodeling and Renovation
Building Auctions
Habitat for Humanity ReStores
What to Unbuild
Chapter 2 Deciding on Unbuilding and Salvage
Your Level of Involvement
Making Sure the Building Is Sound
Permits and Code Requirements
Making a Visual Survey
Case Study: Survey of a Deconstruction Candidate
Chapter 3 The Materials You Find
Develop a Plan for the Material You Remove
Assessing What's Reusable
Selling Your Stuff
Chapter 4 Getting Started
Organizing the Site
Tools for Unbuilding
Chapter 5 Safety and Environmental Health
Make Safety a Priority
Safety Equipment: The Last Line of Defense
Working at Height
First Aid and Medical Services
Fire Prevention and Protection
Lead-Based Paint Hazards
Asbestos Hazards
Chapter 6 Site Preparation and Soft-Stripping
House and Site Characteristics
Preparing the Site
Soft-Stripping
Loading Items from Soft-Stripping
Cleaning Up
Chapter 7 Whole-House Deconstruction
Maintaining the Building's Integrity
Roof Tearoff
Removing Interior Wall Finishes
Removing Electrical, Plumbing, and Ductwork
Removing Roof Sheathing
Removing Rafters
Getting the Material to the Ground
Taking down Trusses
Removing a Dormer
Removing Ceiling Joists
Removing Siding
Removing Walls
Removing Subfloors
Denailing
Stacking and Loading
Project Closeout
- The Taunton Press with their great sense of style and photography combined with knowledgeable authors, who have taken the time to document the deconstruction and salvage process, make this book a must in the bookcases of contractors, architects, designers and any building owner considering salvaging or using salvaged building materials.

5 comments about Feng Shui For Skeptics.
- We have been studying Feng Shui informally for over 10 years. This book is fun and easy to read and understand. Kartar cuts right through all the fake Feng Shui nonsense that is flooding the field - using concrete examples of why some very popular Feng Shui myths and urban legends may actually be harmful. We learned a lot - and re-learned a lot of critical information that we had forgotten. This book is a great resource both for readers who already know something about Feng Shui - and for those who want to learn.
- I find Kartar's book to be concise, full of useful information and uplifting. If you feel that dispite your best efforts, you seem to have to struggle so much in many aspects of your life, like constantly having to swim upstream; perhaps you're living in an unsupportive feng shui environment. Read this book, try a few things and see. You'll find your investment to be worthwhile. I did.
An appreciative reader from the midwest.
- Over the years, I have read several books on Fengshui and Vaastu, out of pure interest. And I think 'Fengshui for Skeptics' is a true gem amongst all the other 'one size fits all' FS books on the shelves. Kartar does a very good job of separating the actual science from plain superstition. For anyone seeking to genuinely understand this subject and apply it in a very practical fashion, this book is a must read. Highly Recommended!
- This book helps you understand feng shui. It was very easy to apply feng shui to my home and workspace using this book. Thanks to Kartar Diamond for explaining feng shui in layman' terms.
- Great advise and interesting information. Better then most other Feng Shui books I've read.

1 comments about Indian Rock Art of the Columbia Plateau (A Samuel and Althea Stroum Book).
- This book provides a wonderful overview of petroglyphs and pictographs in general, with the emphasis on the Northwestern states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Western Montana) and British Columbia. There are images on nearly every page including black and white photos and drawing recreations. Many elements of rock art are described and defined. There is a time line illustrating eras from pit and groove to modern, and a brief description of what Native American Indians were doing during that time. There are also some quantitative charts of elements. This is a great book for anyone interested in Native Americans, Archaeology, Rock Art, or a great way to get interested.

2 comments about Principles of Three-Dimensional Design.
- From Preface:
"Three-dimensional design is such a vast subject that a book of this size cannot cover it all. We have not attempted to explore materials and techniques, direct work with mass and surface texture, or the intuitive approach to form. These aspects of 3-D design really demand constant experimentation and accumulated experience, and it is difficult for principles to be established and explained in words, diagrams, and photographs.
Instead, we have attempted concentrate on the use of simple planes and lines in geometric construction. The approach here is analytical. Visual situations are examined and possibilities studied. Since cardboard and wooden sticks are the main materials involved, all technical problems are reduced to minimum, and workshop facilities can be dispensed with.
This book is primarily intended to help beginning designers in the development of 3-D thinking. It aims particularly at those who are not inclined to think sculpturally. The step-by-step explanation of fundamental concepts and ideas are easy to follow logically, and this book can become a complete course for self-study."
- It would be unlikely to find this level of expertise in the fundamentals of 3-D design even on the university level. Professionals will appreciate it if within their area of interest, but all right-brained thinkers would find this an easy means of grasping the mathematical laws governing the basics of formal 3-D design (not an easy thing to do.) This of course, provides the springboard for the elegant inspiration the book illustrates.
I find this book a valuable and significant resource for my library, and look forward to reading Wong's other publications. Thank you.

2 comments about Designing With Spirituality: The Creative Touch (Designing with).
- I enjoyed the pictures in this book, they're like looking at physical replicas of a dream world.. the use of color and depth in the room, and the variety of houses shown were awesome. From open naturally lit and colored spaces to lofts adorned with bright Mexican artwork each is different and inspiring. The lighting in some of them is really unusual. I recommend this book. I felt it was a spiritual experience looking at the pictures!
- In Designing With Spirituality: The Creative Touch, Carol King surveys more than thirty residences, showing how each reflects the individual designer's spiritual viewpoint through design and how each one has reinforced and elevated its owner's spiritual perspective. King also reevaluates good interior design in terms of its profound connection to the human spirit. Designing With Spirituality is a welcome and greatly appreciated contribution to personal, professional, and community library interior design reference collections.
