2 comments about The Art of the Aloha Shirt.

  1. If you were ever even slightly curious about Aloha shirts then this is the book for you! Well illustrated and written it makes a fun read. The Art of the Aloha Shirt includes not just examples of many of the patterns commonly seen in these shirts but also photos of the shirts as worn in the 1930s, 1940s and beyond. Great pics of some of the more common labels and some of the advertising associated with these shirts.

There are bigger books on this subject but this is a good start for anyone interested in this subject.

  2. Okay, I have a weakness for Hawaiian shirts. This is a great book about the history and making of this staple of American men's wear. The aloha shirt make cycle in and out of current style but never completely out of style. If you own more than five then perhaps you should invest in this book. If you own more than twenty then you most likely have this book. This will give you a clear understanding of what to look for in garage sales and thrift stores but please do not get on the collecting kick. These shirts are meant to be worn.

1 comments about It's Happy Bunny Love and Revenge Voodoo Kit (It's Happy Bunny).

  1. i got this for my two girls; ages 9 and 11. the 11 yr old thought it was hysterical. (it's a little stuffed bunny with pins to stick in it and a small "instruction" book). i'm not sure if my 9 yr old actually thought it would work, but also thought it was funny...(she's somewhat literal-minded)
i think it would make a good gift for someone with a sense of humor and definitly not for anyone younger then 7 as it comes with it's own pins.

1 comments about Heddon Catalogs 1902-1953: Over 50 Years of Great Fishing.

  1. I read through this at the library. The Heddon heritage is kept well alive with this book and any fisherman or collector would be missing out if they don't read about Heddon's legacy. Because of the Heddon family, we now have a $30 billion dollar recreational fishing industry supporting over 300,000 jobs.

  1. The product was ship to me and a timinly mattter. The book has already paid for it self.

    Thanks Again

  2. The book is very well put together and a very useful guide. I am confused by the presence of another Miller's Price Guide that is a competitor (I think). I never know which one that I am getting.

5 comments about A Century of Indiana Glass (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. LOTS OF GLASS THAT YOU SEE EVERY DAY, BUT NOT SURE OF WHO MADE IT!
THIS IS A GOOD BOOK FOR DEALERS, FOR IDENTIFICATION. NOT SURE THE PRICES ARE ACTUALLY WHAT THE ITEM WILL BRING IN TODAYS MARKET, BUT GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHERE TO START...

  2. Craig Schenning has done a great job of identifying Indiana Glass patterns, including information on dates of production, colors, and lists of known pieces with current prices. Also included are several patterns originally produced by other companies but whose molds are known to have been acquired (and produced) by Indiana in later years. Lots of good color photos, although you may have to look elsewhere to identify etchings and decorations. The best book I've seen on Indiana glassware.

  3. A very good and thoroughly interesting collectors book to have.

  4. Indiana Glass is one of my favorite companies. I love the different types of glass that they created and am thrilled that there is finally a new resource out there about the company. Hopefully, this will educate old and new collectors about the wonderful glass they created. I can't wait to see more from this author.

  5. Informed about this book by an article in the Antique Weekly. So happy to have found it on Amazon at a more than fair price. The book is excellently done. Loads of information. Extremely informative. I'm a new collector of Indiana Glassware.

5 comments about Avon's 1876 Cape Cod Collection: Glass Dinnerware (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. After collecting Avon products for over 50 years, this book is very good in
identifying and appraising the value of a full collection of the Cape Cod series. Very useful!

  2. I bought this book with the idea that it would be a valuable resource for me when I sell some of my collectibles. While I did find most of my items and the current market value is there for me to sell or get insurance, the one thing I needed most was the issue price. I have no clue as to what I paid 25 years ago. No one thought to keep receipts back then. Since these items are considered collectible, IRS regulations require that it be reported on Schedule D and you pay tax on the gain. If you have no idea as to the cost, you end up paying tax on 100% of the sale price! Who wants to do that!!! If this book contained the issue price, that could be used as a cost basis.

  3. I love this book. Now I can have an idea what to pay for these items.

  4. This book is wonderful! It has beautiful photographs and price estimates for each piece! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in collecting the 1876 Cape Cod Collection!

  5. The subject book is very well illustrated with actual photographs. The descriptions of each item are not consistent throughout. In some places dimensions are entered in fractions while in other places they are entered as decimals. We purchased the book to satisfy an insurance claim. Dimensions was one of the insurance requirements; however, none of the items in the book have their original cost which was also another requirement of the insurance forms.

5 comments about Encyclopedia of Matchbox Toys (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Besides the Stannard, this is the book to have on Matchbox.
Great for starters and long time collecors.

  2. Excellent book. I was looking for this for a long time. Now I can check out my mini cars and find the best cars and prices I can get.

  3. As the owner of both the 1997 1st edition and this newer 2004 3rd edition, I am disapointed. In order to fit 7 years of new photos into the same size book, the photos were digitally shrunk and subsequently distorted and blurred. But worse, the 1st edition had 198 pages of photos, the 3rd edition has just 159 pages of photos. Bottom line, this makes the photos tiny, blurred and distorted. Also, the paper stock (thickness) was significantly reduced so although the newer edition has just seven more total pages, the first edition is significantly thicker and heavier. So if you do not collect Mattel Matchbox, purchase the 1st edition (also it does not appear the prices between the 1997 and the 2004 price guide have changed). By the way, the 1st edition is a great book!

  4. Its a big book and plenty of clear colour photos of so many examples throughout.covers every era of Matchbox toys. This type of book is superior over the wide but short books printed by this publisher. There is so much information here no matter whether you are devoted collector or just love looking at the old toys you had. This book will please most people. Its good value and high quality.

  5. This is a great reference book, full of details and history about evolution of Matchbox toys. If you love Matchbox, this is a must. Charlie Mack is a true expert on the subject, and this is for sure the most complete and updated information about the subject. The only complains are: cover picture is not representative at all. Pictures are excelent but could be larger for the "reg. wheels" and "miniatures", and several rare cars and boxes are ommited (no space probably). However, "Tomart's Price Guide for Hot Wheels" have a much better and contemporary graphic design and many more pictures in a smaller book, and also with more description of individual models.
