1 comments about A Treasury of Bookplates from the Renaissance to the Present.
- This treasure of _A Treasury of Bookplates_ from Dover Publications is a feast for the eyes--A visual treat for artists and art lovers alike. Softcover book is approx. 8-1/2 x 11-1/4". 146 pages with 4 to 6 black & white images per page; totaling 761 illustrations. Includes bookplates from Germany, Great Britain, United States, France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Soviet Union, Japan, Hungary and Spain. Some nudity, but tasteful (in my opinion). There are a mere five pages of text, the introduction. In the back of the book there is an A to Z index of the Artists.

5 comments about Arcade Treasures With Price Guide: With Price Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- Book was filled with pictures of games I played as a kid. Lots of great pics and wonderful content. Price guide is not a reason to buy this book. But if you want to find a game from a long time ago this is it.
- If you're interested in video arcade games from the 80s, this book will disappoint you. The content is VERY pinball-centric, with only passing mentions of arcade cabinets here and there.
Not what I expected.
- The market is a big determiner of what these games go for. The minute this book hit the stands it was out of date. Bill Kurtz fails to touch the pulse of collectors in this guide as it appears to be more ego gratification than a viable resource. And he considers himself in the business?...
- I wasn't planning on buying this book due to the price. Boy, was I glad I did! Tons of pictures and information. I'm already trying to hunt down one of my all time favorite arcade games; Wrestlefest (Not mentioned or pictured in the book, but I was inspired.)

2 comments about Collector's Guide to Celebrity Dolls: Identification & Values.
- I thought the book was ok and there were lots of pictures but about 400 not 950 as the other reviewer wrote. I wish there would have been more information, it's mainly a picture book. There's lots of newer dolls but not enough old dolls. Not what I expected. I would have liked to see more background and info on the dolls and characters. It was fun looking through the pictures though. Prices were pretty true, gave a good range.
- Hot off the presses is this brand new 2002 volume, complete with 224 pages filled with large, full color, sharp photos of every type of celebrity doll. Prices seem to be up-to-date. There are over 950 great photos!! There's not a lot of text, but descriptions are complete. Major topics include, TV stars, movie stars, actors and actresses, musical groups and singers, entertainers, historical figures, sports stars, bibilical characters, circus stars and more. Celebrity doll collectors will be delighted with this soft-bound book. 630

- I was hopeful that this book would provide market intelligence as to what these compacts should be selling for--especially the rare ones.

1 comments about Picture History of World War II American Aircraft Production (Dover Books on Transportation, Maritime).
- This book contains a peek at the factory floors of the major American aircraft manufacturers of the second world war. Through the liberal use of good quality black and white photographs from the era, we see various aircraft (both famous and not so famous) at various stages of production.
What would have made this book better? I would like to have seen how each individual plane shaped up as it went down the production line. Nevertheless, it still can be a valuable resource for modellers, or those just plain interested in World War II planes.

1 comments about The Library of the Villa dei Papiri at Herculaneum.
- With great photos and illustrations, this book is virtually coffee-table quality. The information is robust and well-researched. It takes a broad overview from the potential owners of the villa all the way through how the "papiri" were read.

5 comments about Plastic Handbags: Sculpture To Wear.
- AGAIN I SAY DON'T BUY THIS NEW BOOK, if you have the original one with the same name - BECAUSE IT HAS THE SAME PHOTOS !!! and the prices are out of line - totally wrong -....the author did nothing but add prices that are not current - and made a carbon copy of her original book without any new SUPER LOOKING VINTAGE LUCITE - BAKELITE BAGS...that you can find on the internet .....without wasting your money - sorry - but the original is a great book - without prices....and the new one is a way of letting the new collector think they have a "new book" with a "price guide" that is up to date - unfortunate - want to buy my copy cheap? A Certain Style is a stunning book to own for Lucite-Bakelite collectors.....
- Now in an updated second edition, Plastic Handbags: Sculpture To Wear by Kate E. Dooner is a visual guide to the handbag as an art form and as a collectible. Complete with an up-to-date price guide, this compendium of vintage plastic handbags that were originally introduced in the late 1920s and early 1930s, continued in popularity through the 1960s. The more than 300 handbags showcased are arranged by their manufactured. Plastic Handbags: Sculpture To Wear is a delight to browse through and an indispensable guide for professional dealers and dedicated collectors.
- Although it's in no way as beautiful as "A Certain Style", this is a better than average reference book on plastic handbags, particularly for beginners. There are a few huge misidentification issues (eg: inclusion of the common and dreadful 1970s Merle Norman cosmetics giveaway as a legitimate 1950s handbag.) The price guide is out of touch with the market --- but what price guide isn't? Based on the sheer number of bags shown, it's definitely a must have for any lucite purse collector.
- The photos may not be as large as those in "A Certain Style, the Art of the Plastic Handbag" (out of print now anyway), but there are many more bags featured and they are just as magnificent. The grouping of the bags according to manufacturer is helpful, too! The price guide is not perfect, but they never are, and this one still gives a good idea of which styles and features are more valuable. No lucite purse collecter can be without this book.
- Not as glorious as "A Certain Style" is, but this one has more photos and is still a treat.

2 comments about Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era: Identification and Value Guide Tenth Edition.
- This book is a little large to be carrying around, however I still do carry it to places that I already know will have the pattern I am looking for.
The forward describes "Elegant" glassware as handmade and acid etched glassware that was sold by department and jewelry stores during the Depression era through the 1950's, differentiating it from the dime store and giveaway glass that has become known as Depression glass. The word "Elegant" has become "official" nomenclature among today's dealers for designating handmade glass.
It is well organized with the glass patterns in alphabetical order and the prices in columns by color of glass. Most of the pictures are color and have good enough definition to identify what you are looking at. There is a contents by pattern and a contents by company.
- This is a beautiful book. Mr. Florence out-did himself with this one! It is so easy to read, is laid out so beautifully, the information is complete and the photography is outstanding. I respect Gene Florence's expertise and would make this my "Bible" for information on Elegant Glassware.
