1 comments about Vintage Fishing Reels of Sweden (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- Very thorough info on the early ABU line. I learned a lot of things, goes into depth, only wish there was more on the baitcasting line of reels. A lot of the info is in reference to other styles of reels which naturally is good for people collecting different styles. I only had wished that it had covered the 2500 line of reels more in depth. The info on the Record line, early Garcia line of 5000's, etc. is very good.

1 comments about Waterfowl Painting: Blue Ribbon Techniques.
- An excellent book for anyone interested in the art of waterfowl painting. Great detail pictures will help you get a true-to-life look. The love of waterfowling extends thoughout the entire Veasey family and continues today with Bill's son Michael Veasey and his wife Susan. Michael, a third generation carver, continues to produce the award winning work passed down from his father. ....

1 comments about Betsy McCall: A Collector's Guide With Values.
- As a primarily modern Betsy collector, I was thrilled at the vast amount of information on the Tonner Betsy dolls, and loved seeing the vintage outfits and dolls pictured in the book. Marci has really done her homework, this is one fabulous book!

1 comments about Oil Lamps 3 : Victorian Kerosene Lighting 1860-1900.
- This is the third book by Catherine Thuro on the subject of kerosene oil lighting and lamps. This book is as informative and useful as were her other two books. As an avid collector of whale oil and Kerosene oil antique lamps and lighting, I feel her books are one of the best reference sources available. I highly recommend this book to anyone who embraces the passion of collecting antique lighting!

5 comments about Flea Market Fidos: The Dish on Dog Junk and Canine Collectibles.
- Such a fun and witty little treasure. If you love dog collectibles and vintage treats, this is the book for
you. I received it as a gift, and have been giving it
as a gift to all of my fido friends ever since.
- This book explored the 'types' of canine collectibles one might find in the marketplace, but it didn't address the 'value' of these collectibles, which would have been much more insightful. The content was purely fluff with little substance to offer a true collector.
- I just purchased this magical book. I couldn't put it down. The photos were amazing and the writing was so clever and unique. Each page brought a new smile and warm feeling. I am going to order one for each of my friends and family. I can't think of a nicer gift to send someone than this special book. In my home, it's my other "best friend ".
- Dog junk and canine collectibles haven't received their own collectibles guidebook before: enter Flea Market Fidos, a unique guide to canine collectibles which covers everything from dog drawings, to crafts and stuffed animals. Besides history and values, Flea Market Fidos also covers the best shops, flea markets, and web sites for locating canine valuables.
- What an adorable book! I received it as a gift yesterday and I just couldn't put it down. The photos are great, the writing is comical and its a real feel-good book!

3 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Early Noritake.
- I inherited my grandmother's Noritake china set when she died, and wanted to know the year of production and what it was worth. The pictures of the maker's marks and patterns were very useful. I discovered our pattern was made in 1931, and was worth about $2,500! Not that I would ever part with such a sentimental gift...It's just nice to know the history of something. Thanks to the author for her research!
- I found this book to be very useful. It's very well organized and well written. An only suggestion for the next edition is to have glossier/brighter/clearer photographs.
- I found this book to be logical and informative. The foundation of this book is based upon the chronilogical use of each mark. The patterns are then listed alphabetically within the time period that "mark" was used. Because of this book - all my freinds and colleages think of me as a "Early Noritake Expert" - I dont have the heart to tell them that I am not! I highly recommend this book to any and all collectors and/or dealers of Noritake!

1 comments about In Pursuit of Plants: Experiences of Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Century Plant Collectors.
- Enticing jacket blurb: "In Surinam, plant hunter F.W. Hostmann allowed vampire bats to suck his toes; Thomas Drummond was attached by a bear in the North American woods; George Forrest narrowly escaped rampaging lamas in Western China; and, in Fiji, Berthold Seemann recorded which plants cannibals used as an accompaniment to human flesh."
Well, if that doesn't pull you in, what will? I must say, though, the book doesn't entirely live up to its promise. Arranged by continent, it features dozens of naturalists, all in basically the same format. First, there's a brief bio, and then a passage or two from their writings. Yes, there is plenty of excitement, but the format is a little deadening, with one naturalist followed by another, and another, and...
In short, this is a book best dipped into for brief excursions, and not read straight through. Perfect for a bedside table.
Sleep tight. Don't let the bats bite.
