5 comments about The Official eBay Guide to Buying, Selling, and Collecting Just About Anything.

  1. While it is very outdated, it is still a good book for the novice who needs to get there feet wet.
This book has all the basic tools you need to get you started in the Ebay experiance but offers nothing to help you once your passed the basics.
There are some good tips on listing your items and using HTML code ect.
So, if you are already an experianced Ebayer then this book is NOT for you, but if you are a beginer to Ebay then you'll find this book to be very benifical in getting you started.

  2. I am very disappointed in this book. As most of the information in this book is outdated, this book should be selling on ebay as a collectors item. Much of the information that can be considered useful to the current ebay functionality is common sense. That is, the book did not reveal to me anything that a second or third time user of ebay could not have figure out.

  3. This book was probably very good in its day, but eBay has changed so much since it was published that it really doesn't hit things straight on. It has the basics of buying and selling, and is loaded with cute anecdotes. I've had gotten better information with the updated Dummies books on the subject.

  4. If you have never been to eBay then this book is for you. It will give you the basics of buying, selling, and searching on eBay. If you have any experience at all either buying or selling, then you probably already know the things in this book.

I was pretty disappointed in how outdated the book had become in just a short year. Ebay is always changing something, so some of the references are no longer valid.

  5. The Official ebay Guide gave me the basics to everything about ebaying. Answered many questions that I had from the past couple of years of ebaying & now wanting to get a whole lot more. This books raised many more questions that the book could answer. However it gave me the basics and left me in search of more detailed information. So, the book is just what it listed a Guide. Now I look for the Handbook to ebay.

2 comments about The 2000 Commemorative Stamp Yearbook.

  1. I love these books and buy them every year. I was started at the age of 6 by my dear departed uncle on collecting stamps. I can now share this simple joy with my own nieces and nephews. The book is full of information and photos relating to each postal issue (complete commemorative issues for the year). And the copies I have purchased new from the original vendor, obviously the US Postal Service, have come with the stamps and the protective sleeves to insert each stamp into before mounting them in the book itself. (I have noticed some offered on the secondary market are without the stamps.)

They are each different in design each year and covered in a durable laminated type cover. A collection of these in the book case would provide many hours of entertainment year ofter year, without turning on a tv or a computer. They would offer a great family activity to work through and study upon the subjects included in the yearbooks. You know what they say about learning something new everyday....

  2. If you know someone who enjoys collecting stamps, or enjoys learning about Americana, then this is the a good book for that person. The very nice hard bound book contains the commemorative stamp series for the year 2000. What is cool is that the actual stamps are enclosed. Surrounding each stamp is about two pages devoted to describing the history and background of the stamp and its subject.

I do not keep books on my coffee table, but I would assume that this would be a good book for that purpose. I enjoyed receiving this book as a gift, and I am sure others would as well.

5 comments about Sterling Silver Flatware for Dining Elegance: With Revised Price Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. EXCELLENT customer service provided for this very informative book. Helped identify many very unusual pieces.

  2. This book is full of absolutely beautiful photos of (mostly old) American sterling place and serving pieces. Its strength is to help identify unusual pieces that people today don't have a clue about. Not very useful for identifying patterns, unless you happen to stumble across a photo of a pattern whose name you are seeking. Patterns are not indexed, but types of pieces are. The price guide (e.g., $30 to $85 for a teaspoon) is absolutely useless. Interesting form to photocopy to use to keep track of pieces you acquire.

  3. I could not be more pleased with this book. It contains page after page of beautifully photographed flatware and contains the history of numerous popular patterns and the great number of pieces available in the various patterns, including the rare and unusual pieces.

  4. I could not be more pleased with this book. It is 204 pages of excellent photographs and descriptions of many patterns, along with a history of the unusual pieces and their original uses. The price guide is just *one* page in this book and is meant only to provide a range. Such a guide would be out of date as soon as published, and it is not realistic to expect it to be current or definitive. (It may have been better left out!) This is the finest book I have seen for a serious silver flatware collector.

  5. Lovely pictures and good descriptions for use of various pieces of flatware.

The "Price Guide" is totally useless! Examples: "Dinner Forks $45-110" "Teaspoons $30-85" "Macaroni Servers $295-1250"

All pieces are priced and listed just this way. Listing such a dollar range with no patterns or manufacturers mentioned, makes the price guide of no value.

5 comments about Liberated Quiltmaking.

  1. I overlooked this book for a long time because the cover photo didn't inspire me, but when I finally took a look inside, I realized that it is a rich goldmine of quilt ideas! Not only that, but it has had a big influence on my approach to quilting. The result is that I'm now having more fun with my quilting. And, that is the purpose of quilting, right? This book is fun to read, too. Gwen has a great sense of humor.
If you ever get discouraged in the pursuit of perfection in quilting, or if you are tired of using patterns and want to design your own quilts, don't waste another minute before buying this book. It's worth twice the price.

  2. I happened upon the Accidental Quilters list of favorite quilt books-and thank goodness!! She spotlighted this book, and I ordered it immediately for several reasons-but mostly because I was a beginning quilter, and the artist in me bulked at the thought of making a cookie cutter quilt-regardless of whether it would be my first or my fiftieth! I appreciate the time and talent that goes into making a quilt from a pattern, but that is just not me. Thank you Accidental Quilter, thank you Gwen Marsten! Fabulous!!

  3. This book is an absolute inspiration. This way of working is so wonderfully freeing and draws forth creativity long buried beneath a plethora of rules. It connects one to quiltmaking's past and propels you forward into a broader future. I would not be without it.

  4. I own more than 100 different quiltingbooks, and this one is simply the best. It has given me a new way of looking at quilting, the whole prosess of it.

It has liberated me from the usual way of looking at blocks, and I know that this book will help me to make unik quilts, quilts I can sell without thinking of copywrights...

I have only been quilting for a year, but I have made more than 80 different quilts from dobbelbed size to tablerunners and I needed something new. This book gave me that.

I like to be able to make a quilt in a week or shorter time, this book has given me inspiration for many new ones, I just love it. Many thanks to Gwen Marston for setting me free....

Good luck to all you happy quilters out there from Olaug Berg Haugland in Norway

  5. Beeing a self-taught quilter and a "one time is enough pattern-follower" I simply loved this book! If you buy quilting books just for the patterns this is probably not the book for you, but if you like me read books for inspiration you will love this one. The photos are simply wonderful and the author's way of working is very easy to follow. This will be one of the few books I will read and enjoy more than once.
