2 comments about Chevelle (Collector's Library).

  1. FIRST OF ALL LET ME SAY THAT I HAVE PURCHASED OTHER BUYERS GUIDE BOOKS BY MBI AND FOUND THEM TO BE INFORMITABLE AND WELL WRITTEN.
THE CHEVELLE BUYERS GUIDE WAS NOT AT ALL LIKE THE GTO BUYERS GUIDE WHICH I HIGHLEY RECOMMEND. THE ABOVE LISTED BOOK ONLY GAVE LIMITED SPECIFICATIONS AND PRODUCTION NUMBERS, AND NO ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION CODES. THE ONLY LIMITED INFORMATION YOU RECEIVE IN THIS BOOK WAS FOR THE "SS" MODEL AND THE "Z16". IF YOU WERE INTERESTED IN OTHER MODELS YOU MAY AS WELL FORGET IT. A BUYERS GUIDE SHOULD BE JUST THAT, A GUIDE FOR POTENTIAL BUYERS ON ALL MODELS. THERE WAS NO BUYERS GUIDE INFORMATION ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR ,AND WHAT NOT,PRODUCTION NUMBERS, CODES,AND VINS.
THIS BOOK WOULD DO FINE IF IT WAS TITLED "THE CHEVELLE Z16 AND BIG BLOCK SS".....BUT NOT BUYERS GUIDE....I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE OF NO USE TO A PROSPECTIVE BUYER.

  2. "A great little book. Elky, Yenko and COPO fans will also love this handy reference. Highly detailed: What significance does LaHarpe, Illinois, have to Chevelle history?"

  1. The guide has a lot of pictures and very little in description of the items. Nothing on the era that I was looking for. Wish I had gone to the bookstore and looked at it first.

  2. I was disappointed with this book, it doesn't show different examples of the same company. Too many item from other parts of the world, not enough from the USA... This book is more of a picture guide. Not enough detail. I'm not impressed.

  3. this whole series is an invaluable resource for the novice or serious antique collector....and this seller is a+

  4. I bought this book for my step-Father who uses it to scout auctions. It's a great resource to have on hand for antiquers!

  5. I have everyone of Juidith guides. They are a great "American" Antique guide to have. Professional ediiton for the serious antique collector or dealer. It worth the money and get research value.

1 comments about Dolls' Clothes.

  1. I was loving this book for its designs until I came to the pattern section. Normally this type of book, for people who sew doll clothes, has a pattern piece with 3 sizes outlined on the page. Once you understand the format, you can either trace the size you need or copy the page and cut out the size you need. In this book, they have superimposed a pattern piece over another piece, so there can be 2 or 3 or 4 pieces on one page! What results is a mass jumble of lines. It takes forever to make sure you have the pattern piece you are looking for, because there are lines everywhere. In addition, they run pieces across the middle binding, which adds to the confusion and creates a problem reproducing it. Other books print the extended piece of say, a pair of pants, as a separate piece on the next page and you have to cut the piece and combine it on your fabric...much easier for the sewer. I think they were trying to cut down on the number of pages, but all they got was a confusing, time-consuming mess. The designs are great; the pattern format makes it not worth my time or money.

1 comments about Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint: 1839-1909.

  1. This is the 3rd of Doug Winter's books that I have bought and it is the best by far. I have already commented on his work on Dahlonega gold and I stand behind my critical comments on the photos. Whether the original pictures were good is beside the point. We can only judge the work we have in front of us and that work had lousy quality pictures regardless of who was responsible. Intent is nothing in this regard; finished product is everything. His work on CC gold was much better, for although again no pictures were in color, nevertheless the quality of them was good. Here, however, all things come together to produce an excellent work. The population analysis, the discussion on strike, luster, etc. are everything we have come to expect from the foremost expert on gold coins. I consider this book invaluable whenever I consider buying New Orleans gold and consult it religiously before making a purchase. The photos are excellent, are all in color, and provide a succulent icing on an already delectable cake. I hope he publishes an update on Charlotte gold soon with the same results.
