5 comments about Wonder Woman Notecards (Deluxe Notecards).

  1. If you're looking for something unique and fun, these notecards are the way to go! I also love the vintage appeal they have as well!
I'm an old-fashion gal, and I love sending fun cards to my girlfriends, I'm always looking for something different.
While I will admit to not being into comic books, I remember fondly watching Linda Carter as Wonder Woman. It was one of the first shows I watched as a young girl that really stressed what "GIRL POWER" was all about. :) These are not just any notecards, they make such a statement that no matter who you send them to, it is bound to put a huge smile on their face. Great quality and I was so pleased with how quickly I received them!

  2. These cards are great for gift giving, and also to appease the inner Wonder Woman we all know.

  3. If you buy this and actually use them the way they're intended, a non-fan won't understand some of the esoteric comic covers used on the notecards. However, the quality and cuteness will impress all WW fans.

  4. These cards, reproducing five famous images of Wonder Woman, can turn the average "just say hi" note into something worth talking about. Perfect for DC collectors and the average fan alike.

  5. These are absolutely delightful! The notecards feature various images of the Amazon princess, all of which show her doing what she does best: fighting for justice and truth! The notecards are great for the WW collector or for someone looking for something original (with a vintage touch). They're blank inside, so they're also multi-functional. Best of all, they come in a handy box with a velcro tab, to keep them from getting damaged. A must buy!

3 comments about Traditional Jewelry of India.

  1. Oppi's thoroughness and attention to the detail in this book is amazing. Pictures and illustrations are just magnificent. Oppi covers the jewelry of maharajas to jewelry of tribal people. The jewelry descriptions in this book include every region and every style there is in India. I bought this book when I was asked to talk about India's jewelry at an art museum. This book definitely improved my knowledge about the subject.

  2. Oppi's book is magnificent. It is a culmination of over thirty years of Oppi's research. His book covers more than just Indian jewelry, but forehead marks and henna mendhi.

Inspired by trips to New York's museums when he was young, Oppi crafts a anthropological journey through a fascinating history of human ornamentation, beginning with wood ash and mud. Oppi traveled extensively to personally research his subject in association with scholarships he won, including a Fulbright scholarship and funding from John D Rockefeller III.

He shows the use of natural items in jewelry, such as leaves, flowers, seeds, vines and wood. Unusual jewelry materials like anteater claws are pictured. Of course, gemstones and precious metals are included. There are photos of elegant gold filigree and fist-sized gemstones.

My favorite part of the book is called "Typology from Head to Toe" in which Oppi takes you on a journey in pictures of people wearing ornaments in their hair to those worn on the toes. The book includes an extensive index and bibliography. It is a very human book, showing how ornaments are worn by people, not just showing photos of the ornaments alone as many other ethnic jewelry books do.

Although you might think the subject of Indian jewelry is narrow before you see the book, a glance through the book will make you want to own it even though the sticker price is high.

  3. An excellent and well researched study with extraordinary photographs by a well known scholar of Indian art. 430 interesting pages that are very well presented to the reader. You'll find possibly more detail than you may need, but you can return later for the items you missed.

5 comments about Limoges Boxes: A Complete Guide.

  1. I purchased this book after I went to a lecture in Dallas, TX by the expert and author of Living With Limoges, Antique Limoges at Home and Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain, Boxes to Vases, Debby DuBay. I love any book that has photographs of Debby's collection of fantastic Limoges. Highly recommend.

  2. This book was a work of passion and love for the author who collaborated with many experts using excellent references. This book provides information on antique Limoges boxes versus the W-Clyde books that include brand new boxes. If you are interested in antique boxes recommend Debby DuBay's third book: Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain: Boxes to Vases

  3. If you want info on antique Limoges boxes-highly recommend this book. I love the fact the author colaborated with several antique shops where I have purchased several antique Limoges boxes. Highly recommend Limoges Antiques Shop in Andover, MA for wonderful antique boxes!

  4. This book on Limoges boxes is great specifically if you are interested in ANITQUE LIMOGES boxes!! Great reference book - I have found several dealers of antique Limoges boxes! (I recommend Limoges Antiques Shop, MA) Great collaborative effort with other dealers and authors; rare in the publishing world - but helpful to collectors! This author lead me to DuBay's LIVING WITH LIMOGES. Faye is gracious lady, great author, the perfect mentor, and a wonderful speaker!

  5. Ms Strumpf is a wonderful, enthusiastic author who has shared her knowledge of Limoges boxes -- along with her resources!! This is the only book that has helped me find antique shops that actually sell antique Limoges boxes! Through her book I have been able to acquire several antique boxes for my personal collection. (In addition, she has mentored several authors to include Debby DuBay, author of Living With Limoges.) I applaud Ms Strumph for being one of the only authors who has collaborated with other authors on the subject of Limoges and for providing good information to lovers of ANTIQUE Limoges boxes.

5 comments about The Book of Old Ships: From Egyptian Galleys to Clipper Ships (Dover Pictorial Archive).

  1. The earlier review is accurate. This is a handy little guide if you want to look up some basic information about a type of ship of which you have heard, or if you just want to browse and pick up a little bit of nautical history. I am a D&D dungeon master, and I have used the book to show my players what various types of ships which they may encounter actually look like.

  2. This book is great if you want to know what kind of rigging each
ship had. You will not get how many crewman it took to sail each ship unless its a galley then you can figure it out by how many oars it had. On some you will get the tonnage of a particular ship but not always. You don't get any idea the cargo it was able to hold in tonnage or what type of cargo it mainly shipped. Nothing about what kind of weaponary ie cannon
6pounder,12pounder etc. I did like the pictures. I did learn about ships that I never knew existed. Thats why I said fluff
    in the title.

  3. The author presents a history of sailing ships through illustrations and descriptions that span 2-3 pages. He breaks the subject matter between long ships and round ships and presents the ships in chronological order from ancient galleys to clippers.

The content of the description seems to be drawn from personal experience, where possible, and various research sources. The author does use a lot of naval terminology for rigging and ship structure that may leave the young or unversed in the dark. The real glory of the book is not, however, the entertaining prose, but the drawings of the ships. The art ranges from mostly black ink renderings of the ships to a few water colors (at least in my hardcover copy) that are simply beautiful pieces.

If you are lucky enough to find a decent early copy (like my 1924 copy) jump on it. Or, if you are interested in seeing what various sailing ships looked like, any copy will do.
    P-)

  4. If you're looking for a good interpretation of excellent illustrations, then this is your book! The illustrations are par none, but the writing lacks substance. Much of the descriptions are but interpretations, some based on fact, but many imagined. Readers looking for a very broad overview will enjoy this book. Those looking for detail about the ship or about the history of the time-period would do better with something else.

  5. Essentially a reprint of a book published originally in 1924, the book manages to have both modern prose and a dated (nonpajorative in this case) perspective. Because the author is chronologically close to his subject, his focus on the meat of the matter is excellent. Complemented by excellent illustrations from Gordon Grant, Culver's prose flows forth, at once detailed, humourous, and filled with romance. An easy read that will probably be enjoyed by enthousiast, history buff, and devout non-fiction reader alike. We can only hope that this book does not go out of print for another 75 years.

3 comments about The Antique & Flea Markets of Italy.

  1. I got this cute little book as a gift for my mother who loves antiques and is traveling to Italy this summer.
Unfortunately, the information is organized by day of the week - and not by location. There is no index that cross-references by location (i.e. city, region). So you end up reading through every single entry for "2nd Sunday of the Month" just to find a market that's taking place that day in Firenze.

  2. This slim volume lists all types of markets by the day of the week or month and location. There's also usually a contact number for more information. If you're going to be in Italy during the first weekend of the month, or the second Tuesday, say, you can check the listings for that time period. There are a few blank pages at the end of the book to write your own personal market notes!

No doubt people will need local maps and/or guidebooks to help locate the markets; this book will work best in addition to other guidebooks - not as a replacement.

  3. I have used other books of this kind in the past for other countries. This one seem to lack the fundamentals for this type of informational book. #1 You must write this book for someone who is not familiar with the local surroundings or the languages. #2 In the years that will be called the new millinneum people want to just blow in and blow out. When I travel I have a limited time and budget to see the flea markets available. In this book there is alot of leg work the author could have provided but for some reason did not.#3 If you speak fluent italian you can call all the phone #'s provided if they are still current. I on the other hand will have to hire a translator. If the author would provide maps, locations to trains, location to major city monuments, and make things easy for the reader to find, the hidden treasures she has found would be available to her reader, which should be her goal. When I travel many times I have up to 5 days in which to find this type of treasure. With this book it would be difficult to accomplish what I would like, but with more effort from the author this book could be a complete guide for any traveler.

2 comments about Hall China Tea And Coffee Pots: The First 100 Years (Schiffer Book for Collectors with Price Guide).

  1. Very extensive collection of pots. There were several I have never seen before in any other publication.
Could be organized in a more user friendly manner, but would still reccomend the book to any Hall collector.

  2. Yesterday I received this beautiful book on Tea and Coffee Pots that have been produced by the Hall China Company. If you collect Tea and/or Coffee Pots this is a must have book. It has all the Tea and Coffee Pots that the Hall China Company produced from 1903 to today. The just released book by Gary and Paula Barnebey has over 800 color photos in this 240-page book. This is a well written and researched book has an extensive bibliography. The book contains Tables with general color lines produced through the years and availability over time, a color
    chart, and much, much more.
