2 comments about Beretta Pistols: The Ultimate Guide.

  1. A worthwhile book if you are as I, a loyal Beretta collector.
A bit of an overstatement at June 2008...not the "ultimate guide".
Much has happened of importance with Beretta in the last few years that is not covered well in this book.

  2. And excellent book with a lot of information, it brings as especial features a complete description of the guns even it includes the last versions of Beretta Hand Guns until the Model PX4 Storm. The book will be perfect if it includes color images and no black and white pictures.

4 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of Granite Ware Colors, Shapes and Values Book 2 (Collector's Encyclopedia of Granite Ware Bk. 2).

  1. A teriffic book. Clear and well organized. My only warning to you is, don't expect to get the prices the book suggests. I find that 1/3 to 2/3 of suggested prices are more realistic for all but the rarest pieces.

  2. This is a must for the Granite ware buyers prices are great and great learning instruction of what to look for and how to tell if it is old or new I love this book and look at it often as I am looking on ebay alot. A must for the Granite people

  3. I found this book very helpful as a new collector of Granite Ware. I especially appreciate the items being grouped by color for easy identification with the price values on the same page. Now I am searching to find some backgound information on the makers and enameling techniques.

  4. My mother-in-law is an avid collector of graniteware, thus our whole family is and she has both of Greguire's graniteware books. I must say I like this second edition much better than the first. This edition lists the price along with the description, making it easier than flipping back and forth like in her last book. This edition is also better because it groups the pieces by color and description and I believe this is also easier. Our family has gotten a lot of use out of Greguire's book, and if you are a graniteware collector like everyone in our family, this book is a must have for reference.

3 comments about Napco (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This is the best book you can find on the subject of NAPCOS. It is not 100% complete, since so many thousand NAPCOS were issued since the mid 1900's; however, this book will give the collector a very nice basis on the subject.

Excellent photos. Printed on nice paper!

  2. This is a fantastic book for the Napco collector. It offers beautiful pictures of some of the best figurines ever made. If you're a fan of Napco, this book is a must have!

  3. This is by far the best book on Napco figurines and has MANY of the hard to find items fully photographed. I have been looking for a book to help me on my Storybook collectables for years and this one is a dream come true! Also has birthday angels and many, many more! So much information all photographed and in beautiful full color! Kathleen Deel knows her Napco collectables and now I will too! I highly recommend this book!

1 comments about Great Fashion Designs of the Sixties Paper Dolls in Full Color: 32 Haute Couture Costumes by Courreges, Balmain, Saint-Laurent and Others.

  1. This is an interesting review of the fashions of the sixties. The designs are beautifully drawn and the colors are vivid.
While I like the book, I don't think the costumes selected truly reflect the mood of the decade. There are too many "doll-like" outfits ( ruffles, flowers, etc), and not enough focus on the revolutionary changes in fashion during the period. The last plate representing the end of the decade does not give the sense of the ethnic influence on the late sixties which followed on to the seventies.
The dolls themselves are gorgeous, with one looking like an East Coast sophisticate while the other looks like a Californian beach baby.

1 comments about Anime Figures: Tokyo's Hottest 50 Anime Figurines.

  1. Although I personally never owned a Japanese anime PVC, I've seen them so many times in Akihabara, sold at anime conventions and I can see why otaku really go for them.

These PVC action figures feature anime characters in the sexiest and seductive pose, really good craftmanship and a keen sense of detail on umm...certain body parts. These figurines are the ultimate in fan service but the chance to own them is a collector's dream.

The book features two pages with photos of Tokyo's hottest 50 figurines. Americans will no doubt know Amane Misa of "Death Note", Belldandy of "Ah! My Goddess", Ayanami Rei of "Evangelion" and video game fans who may know Tojo Mitsuru of "Persona 3 and Shieri and Shion of the popular "Melty Blood" series.

The photos by Shimono Yoshio really capture the craftmanship of the figurines. The sculpting are very well done and one thing that these PVC's sure do emphasize a lot are on the female character's breasts and nipples sticking out through their clothing. Also, the fan service of a anime girl with her skirt flowing in the wind and a peek at her underpants.

It's quite perverted if you think about it, especially if you are not into figurines.

But for toy collectors in America who like detail for "Star Wars" figures, especially that Slave Leia and Scarlett or Baroness of GI Joe and how their curvatures are shown and give them a slight fan service, the Japanese figurines make sure that the otaku gets their money worth.

One PVC featuring Shion of "Melty Blood", is shown on all fours in her school girl outfit (maybe looking for something she lost in the ground) and of course, fan service giving a sneak peak of her rear end.

The creator of the model made sure that the curves were well done, especially the lines from her umm..panty region. And Shimono made sure the lighting was perfect to create the shadowing in his photos.

The most jawdropping figure was of an original character named Aizawa Sanae dressed in a cow-like cosplay with a cowbell around her neck ala choker but no bra and the detail in the breast area, the creators went all out in making sure everything looked realistic in a fantasy sense. The figure just screams "Got milk?"

By saying that, by no means is this book for the kiddies. The book and it's slip case cover have a big red words in the back that say "Contains PVC Nudity".

Also, I have seen these figures from Akihabara blogs and I can definitely understand why these figurines are attractive to the consumer.

These figures scream to the otaku... "Buy Me"!

So, if you have any remote interest in PVC figurine collecting especially for video game and anime characters, this book is definitely for you.

2 comments about Antique Trader Clocks Price Guide: Including All Types of Clocks-17th Through 20th Century (Antique Trader Clocks Price Guide).

  1. This book has some wonderful pictures. I think some of the values are dated, but the pictures and examples were very useful to me.

  2. A brave title with "ALL Types of Clocks" and it disappointed as it did not include many (if any) small Boudoir Clocks. Few 20th Century clocks only 1 electric clock. Few mentions of swiss clocks of note. NO INDEX - what sort of book dose not have an index.

Like many American authors - if it does not happen in the USA it does not happen.

I would not recommend this book to those who collect clocks from "the world" as the world is greater than the USA.

5 comments about Don Aslett's Clutter-Free!: Finally & Forever.

  1. I think this book is a total waste of money. I have read other of Mr. Aslett's books, and this one just seems to be a lot of testimonials as to how wonderful his hints for cleaning clutter & other things in a house or business. I returned the book to Amazon & requested a refund, which I have received. I think that Jeff Campbell, of the Clean Team, has much better books and routines for cleaning. He is based in San Francisco, Calif & I have used his products & cleaning suggestions for years.
I did not find anything useful in Mr. Aslett's latest book. Thanks for 'listening/.

  2. I appreciate the irony of buying a book on clutter with which to clutter up your bookshelf. But I still love this book and leaf through it often. The thing is, once you've read Clutter's Last Stand and then implemented the helpful suggestions there, it's a life-changing moment. You see things differently than you did before. Kind of like a born-again nonsmoker, you want to dwell on the subject of clutter and read more and more anecdotes about other people's before-and-after moments.

The chapters are as follows: 1 - More Sightings of Unidentified-Lying-Objects (examples of strange junk that people keep). 2 - The Cost of Keeping It (the hidden costs to your finances, energy, and health). 3 - More Incredible Excuses for Clutter. 4 - Help with How to Dejunk. 5 - How to Identify Junk and What to Do with It Afterwards. 6 - More Advice on Specific Topics (e.g., kid clutter, kitchen cabinets, vehicle junk). 7 - Preventing Re-Junking. 8 - Success Stories.

True, this book could be viewed (by the hard-core de-junker who wants to keep his bookshelves bare - who doesn't even HAVE any bookshelves!) as a bit of a retread. Basically, this book is made up of hundreds of letters sent to the author by all those former packrats whose lives he's changed.

It's like browsing through an especially content rich online forum with hundreds of people sharing their personal anecdotes - except it's a whole lot better edited! This is the book for those who have managed to clean up their lives and who either want reinforcement, or who remain fascinated with the concept of de-junking and what an incredible difference it makes in the lives of so many. Plus this book has a wonderful tone: never condescending, and full of laugh-out-loud humor.

  3. I found this book more of a comic book then a to help book. More stuff was humor than help hints. Would not recommend for someone seriously wanting to declutter.

  4. First, let's be blunt. Aslett got a free book out of the letters and emails sent to him by fans of Clutter's Last Stand. This book has very little Aslett and very little practical advice other than "toss it." It consists of personal stories of being a prisoner of clutter, the wilder the better.

That said, if you want to feel massively superior to people who've saved sixteen years' of National Geographics, the entire contents of the city dump, or a barn full of fluorescent light fixtures, this book is a hoot. Once you've started decluttering, read this book during your drink breaks. It's easy to put down, thanks to all the short sections, and the vision of not being like these people will keep you going.

  5. Here it is - a book cluttered with clutter comments. Kinda thin on the help, but heck! what are you going to do when all those junkies get rid of their stuff or want to share how their life doesn't go well because of all their junk! Don turns their comments into cash and sells it back to us! He's not dumb, and he doesn't have to have his file clutered after he keeps cluttering up more books about clutter. Too much clutter? Buy all his books and let them clutter your life! I feel I got taken by the cutiesies! OK one more piece of clutter to get out of my life!

2 comments about The Authentic Tudor & Stuart Dolls' House.

  1. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I ordered this book, but I'm not disappointed. There is a lot of history and great information! Just not quite what I was looking for!!
The book is heavy on history and information with line drawings. Lots of information about the exterior with little about the interior or furniture. There is a small but very nice kitchen roombox in the back!
If you are looking for Tudor tutorials, especially furniture and accessories, for a doll's house, this may not be the book for you. There are other books with more specific doll's house or miniature accessory related items available.
Overall, this is a great book for my library and I have referred to it often when building my Tudor doll houses!

  2. I love the historical accuracy in miniature settings. This book is a must for anyone who has an interest in historic tudor/ half-timbered houses. Whether miniaturist or not.

In addition to the houses themselves the author also discusses period furniture.

This book deserves more than 5 stars in my opinion
