3 comments about Cesar's Way Journal: A Resource and Record Book for Dog Owners.
- this was bought as a birthday present for my mam and she absolutely loves it as it incorporates sections of both of his boks along with giving you space to write in how the training is going and any important information like vaccination due dates operation dates all the things you would need to keep regarding your dog and their health, it is a really pretty little journal inside and out.
- It is 99.9% you and only 1% the dog and Cesar once again describes it all in this book. He is one of the first who proved to dog owners AND even to trainers that you CAN get results using your knowledge, technique, proper body language, attitude, and have the right goal and expectations from your dog and from yourself.
Unlike clicker training or PetSmart training where you give your dog treats just for being alive and call it training, I have been compared to Cesar a lot. This is because I always tell my clients you want to rely on your Love, Leadership, Praise and Technique and NOT Hotdogs, Ham, Sausage and Dried Liver. Kevin "The Dog Prodigy" Salem.
- When explaining the difference between Cesar's first two books I frequently use the following analogy:
* 'Cesar's Way' by Cesar Millan is like when one learns how to drive a car (dog/human interactions), to successfully apply useful solutions for problem dog behaviors.
* 'Be the Pack Leader' explains how the car (dog/human relationship)works, is applied to the understanding of WHY being a Pack Leader works (and which can also be applied to the human/human relationship!
Cesar's Way Journal brings these pieces into an integrated whole by first helping us examine OUR real interactions with our dogs in Section one: "Know yourself, Know your dog" Concrete exercises help us to see accurately how dogs are our true mirrors, teachers and healers.
Section 2, helps to decide how best to put Cesar's formula into practice by examining our unique environments, lifestyle, choices and individual dog's needs. There is a through check list to help ensure we address all elements of the dog's needs. One o the most important elements of this section for me was the exercise that got me to take a HARD look at how I work with issues around power - those who have power over me and how I react, as well as those I have power over - and how I treat them...on good days and bad!
Section 3 has a system that is so easy to work with to help me keep track of all the history, vet care, and resources I rely on all the time in hard copy form so I can lay my hands on it right away! There were some interesting recommendations of new reading material in the back I want to follow up on too.
I have helped to rehab over 25 problem dogs who were going to be euthanized if someone didn't step forward to help. I'm no one special or especially skilled - just a dog owner who cares that these dogs don't die! Had to use Cesar's way because the way with dogs that I was raised with never seemed to work with problem dogs, only dogs that were already good!
I stepped forward to help because there was no one else - "professional" or not. All but one, the first one, were brought to me by rescue non-profits who had run out o options to change the dog's behaviors into something that could be adopted out. Did it using the solutions I learned from watching the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic and then buying and studying the season 1 and 2 episode tapes:
Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan - The Complete First Season
and
Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan: The Complete Second Season
So for people like me - just people who want to help save dog's lives, one day at a time, this is yet another tool that is really helping me to up my game another level!

5 comments about Twenty One Days to a Trained Dog (Fireside Books (Fireside)).
- This book came as described. It is a helpful book for a novice. It is more or less the same way I was taught to train dogs in the seventies. Tried and true although not without some physical B-moding. But if you have a strong minded pup and your new at this its a good easy back round book.
- This book addresses training issues simply and straightforward. I tried it with our 9 month old cairn terrier and it really works. I recommend it for any dog owner who wants to teach their dog manners in a kind fashion. Only thing is we don't believe in collars but use a harness instead and it still works just as well.
- It's an old book with techniques from the '70's (it's published in 1977). If you prefer a book with more positive reinforcements such as treats, petting, etc, I would recommend Train Your Dog - The Positive Gentle Method --it's better to visually see how to do it.
Also, the title made me curious, '21 Days to a Trained Dog' but looks like it would take longer than 21 days, unless you really train your dog every day, at least five times of 5-10 minutes per day (probably even more depending on your dog). If you want a book, besides the DVD I suggested, I'd recommend The Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book--yes, this one contains easy tricks too!
- Bought the book, was skeptical, and I turned out to be right. I couldn't teach my adult dog how to behave in 21 days unless I had all day every day to devote to it. It might work for some people, but not for me.
- I used this book, in conjunction with other training materials. It's useful, but I wouldn't rely on it as my sole training guide. I used it to get a basic idea of how to train my dog once we had passed the 8mo. mark and were basically doing OK.

2 comments about Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina's Horses.
- Hurricane Katrina devastated countless human lives, but the stranded pets and other animals left in New Orleans are rarely mentioned. "Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina's Horses" is the story of the efforts of countless veterinarians and volunteers and their attempts to rescue the pets and animals who were in threat of losing their lives to the disaster. A Touching and inspirational throughout, "Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina's Horses" is highly recommended for community library pets collections and as a real treat for animal lovers.
- This is a heartfelt story of heroes and the will to survive under the most tragic circumstances.
In the aftermath of the August 29, 2005, devastating destruction of Katrina, the untold suffering was not just felt by vast numbers of residents in the Gulf Coast area.
The book chronicles the tireless work by Louisiana State University's Equine Rescue Team to rescue the animals in oftentimes very dangerous circumstances.
Becoming the riders after the storm, this is an incredible chronicle of individuals and the heart & soul that only comes from a strong desire to live.

5 comments about Planet Cat: A CAT-alog.
- I purchased this book just two weeks ago so I have yet to get through the whole thing. However, I have definitely made a dent in it and I have to say it is totally rad. I have two senior cats who I love to death. My family adopted them when I was very young so I never really took much intrest in educating myself about cats. Now as a high school senior I have developed a serious fascination with all kinds of felines. This books contains all of the information you could ever want, it is packed with facts. With a book of this size I was worried that it might contain too much filler and not enough killer. I was pleased to discover that my assumptions were unfounded. Planet Cat talks about social/cultural/ political history of cats, grooming, health concerns, the basics about adopting cats, etc. I was kinda bummed to see that a decent portion of the book is dedicated to grooming/health concerns. Im sure caring for your cat tips are relevant to other readers but I was in it for the history. Whatever the case by the time I found info on Hemingway's cats, Literary Cats throughout history, and stories of amazing cat feats, I was no longer bummed. This book is a cat tome! I don't regret buying it. Highly Recommended

Planet Cat is not the type of book that you want to bomb through in one sitting. Instead, Planet Cat should be savored slowly like a fine wine as you marvel at the amount of time and research that has gone into this collaborative effort.
Authored by Sandra Choron, Harry Choron and Arden Moore, Planet Cat offers the reader a distinctive look into all things C-A-T. From early history to contempurrary culture, learn about famous cats, famous people who share their lives with cats, Presidential kitties, care and training, cat behavior even popular and obscure cat myths debunked. You name it; you will find it within Planet Cat.
Such extensive content requires a six page Table of Contents as the three authors behind this book contact authors and experts gathering up content in an easy-to-use guide. Learn about what gifts will satisfy the cat who has everything. How to photograph your cat, travel tips, which websites are the most popular for cat lovers on the Net, how to secure insurance policies for your cat- they litter-ally cover every cat-topic on the planet.
Put this book on your bookshelf for it is an educational find, fun to read, highly informative, and a must-have for any cat lover. Sits proudly in my bathroom next to my copy of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Cat Lover's Companion.
Bravo to the authors for providing such a wonderful find!
- This is such a FUN and informative book. Couldn't put it down when I received it. The prrrrrfect gift for all kitty lovers!
- This book has tons of information on cats. It's the perfect book for any cat lover.
- I bought this book becuase I had checked it out at the library, and it has so much good information in it! Just about anything you can ask about a cat is covered. It even tells you lots of way so say "cat" in different languages. If you're a cat lover, I would definitely reccommend it!

5 comments about A Snowflake in My Hand.
- No exaggeration here, this book is quite possibly the best book I've ever read - and I've read a LOT of books. I probably average 100-150 books per year and this book stands out like a shining beacon of what a book should be.
Without melodrama or saccharine-laced manipulations, the author manages to successfully illustrate the pain, no, the agony, of watching a beloved animal slip away. She shows the behind the scenes anguish and dedication of those who care for and strive to better the lives of our furry children. Nowhere have I seen animal-human relationships portrayed with such tenderness, sincerety and respect without a trace of the maudlin.
Ms. Mooney does not proselytize nor does she moralize, yet somehow she manages to bring forth a sense of the divine and everlasting bond possible with a special animal. She gives the sense also that however difficult, life does go on and that somehow, it must.
One other important note about this book - With her words, her attitude, and her wisdom, Ms. Mooney does a better job than could 12 trained counselors at helping to appease any guilt a companion person may have at any decisions made out of love for an animal.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever loved an animal or even anyone who has simply had a friendship with one. This book speaks to a level rarely seen or addressed in a simple paperback book.
- In law school, in a cinder block dormitory, Samantha Mooney's cats were a surrogate animal family for me, but such a tragic family, since death came sooner for them than for most of our pets. This was one of the very few books I carried home with me and I have never let it go in all the intervening years. If we must acknowledge that we are destined to outlive most of our pets, again and again we need a book to remind us to cherish their lives but not tether them to hopeless life when they are ready to let go. Many animals have shared their lives with me in the years since I graduated. This is the book I turn to when that sad day comes around for each of my animals in turn.
- It is a simple book, written for the average person. Nothing fancy, just a book written from the heart. If you've ever had the love of a cat, dog, or any other creature in your life then please get this book. It will warm your heart and make you feel what it's like to know true, sincere love. For those who think that humans are the only creatures with souls and feelings, you should read this book and maybe realize that we are truly not alone, there are intelligent and caring lifeforms all around us.
- Hard to believe this book would ever go out of print, or that the author apparently wrote nothing else. I got this book when it first came out, and periodically reread it -- and I'm not even a cat person. A wonderful book, beautifully written, about life, love, loss and renewal. Get a copy, this one is a jewel that shouldn't be missed.
- Lyrical, poignant, tender, this is a book clearly written by a cat lover. A slim memoir of her time as an veterinary research assistant in the oncology department of NYC's Animal Medical Center, the author is above all hopeful, despite the inevitable early demise that awaits most of her patients. She knows that while the doctors may not be able to cure the cancers of their feline patients, they can certainly improve the quality of life, allowing the cats to live out their lives as happily as medically possible. Highly recommended.

5 comments about Coton De Tulear (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).
- Not many people are familiar with this type of dog so when I purchased this book I was very pleased. It tells you everything you need to know about this breed of dog. I would recommend it to anyone who has this dog and is looking for more insight on health matters, grooming, behavior, etc.
MM
- This is the only book that I know of about the Coton de Tulear. There are some informative things about the Coton, but there is also general information about caring for dogs that does not pertain to the Coton. Overall, though, it's better than nothing!
- It is rare to find a book on my dog, a Coton De Tulear. This book was great and I will use for a reference in his care.
- There doesn't seem to be a lot of material printed about this breed so I was excited to find this. It was a gift, it was very well received.
- A well needed book delivered quickly at a crucial time in my life.
This well written book was delivered quickly from Amazon.com.
The day after Thanksgiving I was gifted this wonderful life changing dog, A Coton de Tulear. What kind of dog was this? Where did this breed originate from and why have I never heard of this breed before? How was I to take care of this 9 week old bundle of joy with no knowledge.
I thank the Kennel Club Breed Series book for saving me from what could have been a trumatic out come for the dog and myself. As of today I have a well behaved, trained, groomed properly and feed correctly pup.
Thank you for all the great tips on training and grooming. I am very happy with this book and would highly reccommend this series to all dog lovers. BRAVO!!!!!

4 comments about The Tellington TTouch : A Revolutionary Natural Method to Train and Care for Your Favorite Animal.
- I so enjoyed this book! It is well written and once you start reading it you get jazzed and don't want to quit reading it or put it down. Keep an open mind when reading it. :)
- As a sales pitch for Tellington Touch, this book is great. As an instruction manual, it is totally worthless. Complex gestures such as those mentioned in the book need illustrations that take one step-by-step through the manipulation process. There aren't any, just a few photos that show one stop action part of the whole.
It did get me to take a T-Touch workshop, which was beneficial for my old and arthritic dog. The process works. The book doesn't.
- I have applied the methods in this book to various cats at a homeless cat shelter. It is a lot of fun and the cats really like it too. The book has many fascinating stories of how Tellington developed her methods and how she has applied them to an incredible range of animal species.
- This books content is out of this world, taking you further than any book i have ever read. I could not put it down from start to end. One of the questions i often ask myself is does my dog really know just how much i love him. After reading lindas book and trying the ttouch i got my answer. Yes he does and the feeling is returned ten fold. Thankyou linda

5 comments about Goldendoodle (Designer Dog).
- This book might be what you are looking for IF you are planning to get a Goldendoodle. The first 2 chapters are spent telling you stories about how Goldendoodles came to be and what great dogs they are. If you already know how great these dogs are, it's nice to read from someone that loves doodles so much, but it wasn't really informative. I was really hoping to get more specific insight for training tips, different stages in their lives, maybe more pictures of how they keep changing during their first year of life, how often to bathe, more practical tips. It has useful information on how to find a breeder and what to look for. As an owner of a Goldendoodle puppy, it was enjoyable to read but didn't get my questions answered :)
-
perfect companion piece to the 'puppies for dummies' book, if Goldendoodles are your thing.
- Interesting content on the development of this "non-breed" but not particulary helpful for what I was looking for. I would've liked to see the puppy coat types as they change develop into dogs...important for picking out a pup from a litter. The chapter titled "Breeding" shoud be changed to "genetics" or something, I was frightened it would be a "How-to" chapter...thankfully it was NOT.
Also, I think it has some of the most disappointing Goldendoodle photography out there! I have been surfing the web and have found much better looking pictures and more variations of Goldendoodles (coat types, colors, sizes, natural/clipped coats) than this book offers. So if you are looking for pictures, I would just do an image search...it turns up much more satifying results.
The "Puppy Aquisitions" assumes the only way to geta Goldendoodle is through a breeder. Some tips and info on finding one through a rescue or shelter wouldve been nice.
Overall it was an interesting study of the recent history of this mixed breed.
- I loved all the photographs and informative tips about goldendoodles that were in this book. We got our new puppy from the author and she did a wonderful job raising our pup for us until we took her home.
- As the soon to be owner of a goldendoodle pup I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book. I couldn't find any other books on these marvelous dogs. I sat down to read a few pages and found myself reading it cover to cover. It is an easy read- packed full of useful information for someone considering a goldendoodle, as well as the new owner and some fun facts as well. I especially love the enthusiasm that comes through by the author. You can tell Kathryn loves these dogs and knows her stuff. The pictures are great too! Now I really can't wait to get my pup!

5 comments about Pills For Pets: The A to Z Guide to Drugs and Medications for Your Animal Companion.
- Sometimes the vet does not have time to explain in detail the medications they are prescribing and sometimes you just for get to ask or think of someting after the fact. The book is a good source of information and it its written in plain enlish so you dont have to be a DVM to understand it.
- A good reference. I have only had it a month and have already made 4 reference searches and pleased with each result. If you have pets, and if you have more than 2 or 3 pets, this can be a great help to talk to your vet about. Puts you in the know.
- Pills for Pets by Debra Eldredge, D.V.M.
Dr. Deb Eldredge is not only an award-winning writer and columnist on veterinary issues, but she is my friend and a fellow Belgian Tervuren owner/trainer/competitor. Deb works in an animal hospital outside Syracuse, NY and is a volunteer consultant for Canine Working Companions. Her book, Pills for Pets, is truly an A to Z guide to drugs and medications for your animal companion, from dogs to horses, from iguanas to cats! This book was awarded the Muse Medallion for Best Health and Care Book for 2003. Pills for Pets is a comprehensive, easy to use listing of prescription and over the counter drugs - including cautions, possible side effects, and drug/food interactions. Deb Eldredge makes it very clear that the information in her book is to allow pet owners to supplement their knowledge about veterinary care, not replace it. Dr. Eldredge gives advice and cautions about homeopathic remedies, herbal treatments, vitamin and nutritional supplements; all of which are becoming very popular with pet owners. Her book also helps pet owners in choosing the right veterinarian and pet insurance. She also touches on emergency first aid and how to provide long-term nursing care for animals, as many of our pets are living longer. Of interest to anyone who wanted to save money by buying medications and fad diets on the web, a must read is chapter 7 which makes you aware of the dangers of Internet purchases. Emphasis in Dr. Eldredge's book is that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Pills for Pets is an excellent resource and a "must have" for any pet owner!
- Awarded by the Cat Writers Association of America, Pills for Pets was voted the best health and pet care book in 2003. This essential book for every pet owners shelf was called,
"An extremely useful reference book that covers the ground. This is a book that pet owners want on their shelf when health questions arise." Whether you own an iguana, dog, cat or horse this book arms you with the information you need to ensure that your pet is getting the best medical care possible. The book includes prescription and over-the-counter meds, homeopathic remedies, herbal treatments, and a guide to emergency care and first aid.
- This book is a well written and clear guide for pet owners. The information is timely and thorough and covers a wide spectrum of topics beyond medication that every pet lover will appreciate. It's also a great help in resolving those questions of "is this serious (requires a trip to the vet) or should I wait a day and see if he gets better?" The author has packed a wealth of knowledge into a small package! I think this book should be sold in veterinarians' offices everywhere!
