- This a complete guidebook to all kinds of pets -- probably more than you ever imagined were out there. It's easy, downright simple to read. It covers all kinds of issues. It is especially written towards children, which might get a little tedious for some adults, but overall, it's a very enjoyable book, worthwhile for anyone considering what type of pet to select.

3 comments about The Aquarium Fish Survival Manual.
- I give it two thumbs up - or five stars. :-) I agree with a previous reviewer that indicated that it is his best aquarium reference book. The only thing that I would like to point out about this book that might make it slightly confusing to a prospective reader is that the author apparently resides in Britain. I found a few discrepancies in fish naming compared to pet shops in my area. Also, after I first set up my aquarium, my fish became ill with what the author refers to as White Spot. When I went to the pet shop looking for medication for White Spot, they didn't know what I was talking about. As it turns out, White Spot is known locally as Ick or Ich. If I had paid closer attention when reading, I would have noticed that the scientific name begins with Ich. To me, these are minor inconveniences in an otherwise well-written and well-organized book. In addition, the color photographs are excellent, making it easy to identify a species.
I highly recommend this book.
- This book is a very good all-round book; it both deals with setup and maintenance of the aquarium (location, filters, heating, water quality, etc), and has a lot of pictures of common plants and fish. It puts the various fish into categories like whether they function well in a communal aquarium, where they mostly stay in the tank (bottom, middle, top), and what their preferred food is (plant, livefeed, dried food). This is a book you will find yourself returning to again and again for reference. Highly recommended!
- This book has a lot of information in it. It is written plainly, and is easy to understand. Sometime it gets a bit to detailed for the beginner in some sections like lighting. As a reference for plants and fish (fresh/marine) it's a good book to start with. In 12 years of fish keeping I have seen few books that can match it, especially for the price. I bought my copy back in 1995, and although I have many other books on the shelf on aquaria, this is the 1st book I grab.
Cons: This book is written in Europe, so some of the equipment they picture is not available here, but it still gives you lots of facts & rules of thumb on fish keeping that you can use. It is a little short on water "how to" manipulate water attribute, it only talks about pH, ammonia, and nitrite levels. Water hardness, iron, and CO2 level info is missing, much more a beginner and intermediate level book.

1 comments about AZ of Horse Behavior & Training.
- This book has a short 20 page introduction to horse behavior and language, and from there it continues in encyclopedia style, with lots of horse related items described in alphabetical order. Usually I don't like this type of book at all and avoid it, but this one was an exception. First, it is down to the point, no word is wasted! Yet it is very easy to read and understand. The other thing I liked very much is WHAT it says is very horsefriendly ("natural horsemanship" oriented), sounds very sensible and logical. There is a wealth of information for a very broad range of horse topics.
Of course, due to the nature (i.e. the form) of the book no one subject is treated very extensively. This means it is good only to get an overview over horsemanship related topics - but at this it is REALLY good!

2 comments about Mammal Evolution.
- I still pick up this book often to gawk at, even after owning it for several years. This has to be one of the most visually captivating books I have ever seen. Savage and Long succeed in bringing back to life a magnificent array of extinct mammals in this plentifully illustrated work. This is not an exhaustive, comprehensive textbook, but more of a glorious introduction to the history and evolutionary inteagues of major mammal groups. Even so, the book is very ambitious. It contains thought provoking commentary, family trees and charts, illustrations of fossil specimens, and best of all, drawings of all sorts of extinct mammals as they might have looked in life. Marvelously educational, and seriously fun.
- A well written and beautifully illustrated coffee table book, or reference resource. I have found the book facinating to read. I especially have enjoyed the well executed drawings and paintings throughout the book. It gives the reader factual information, yet alludes to common theories and hypothetical possibilities. One possiblity it poses is; what if primates had not been the evolved species, and instead had been dominated by reptilian type species?

1 comments about God Is Dog Spelled Backwards.
- I came upon this book by chance and immediately had to buy it. For anyone struggling with religion and spirituality this book is for you. The book will inspire you to look beyond religion, to believe in yourself and others. In a few pages within the book the little dog states "I believe my friends have as much spirituality as any monk, each person carries a distinct and personal energy, we are each powerful and delicate, simultaneously." This book is fun and thoughtprovoking.

2 comments about Pads for Pets.
- Some of the included projects are, in my world, over-the-top in complexity or difficulty (which is why only 4 stars), but there are a number of projects that are actually doable! To be fair, each project is rated by difficulty, with one to five paw prints. I enjoyed this book so much that I've given several copies to friends, which says a lot since I'm a poor slob with no job. :) I'm sad that "Pads for Pets" is in the bargain bin, although this is YOUR gain!!
- From a Zen Bed for cats to Terra Cotta Abodes for pet toads, imaginative plans for pampering your pets make this book great fun. No budget this year for purchasing a beach house or even making a trip to an exotic island? See San Francisco designer Randall Koll's instructions for building your canine companion a bamboo pup hut-- batik curtains optional.
A thoroughly delightful book that's fun to read even if you never pick up hammer and nails.

2 comments about The Guide to Owning a Poodle (Re Dog).
- The book is a good beginning for someone completely unfamiliar with poodles but not for the serious poodle raiser.
- Mr Dib likes to take picture so if you want to look at pictures of poodles - get this book. If you would like to know how to train your poodle - get another book. Mr. Dib's recomendation to you on training is to take your dog to a professional trainer or to sign up for obedience school with your poodle. The pictures are nice tho.
