1 comments about Talk to Your Dog: How to Communicate with Your Pet.
- "Talk Dog" is not only fun reading, but gives you lots of good information on how to communicate, and how not to communicate, with your dog. Even after owning dogs over many years, I found much good information in this book.

5 comments about African Cichlids of Lakes, Malawi, and Tanganyika.
- What an amazing book!!! Amazing content with very useful information and beautiful pictures to boot. I dare you to find a better book out there on African Cichlids.
- First of all the book is 448 pages long (you would think there would be an abundent amount of usefull information) well THINK AGAIN ! The book is full of pictures with outdated scientific names, the only information about breeding any type of cichlid (being malawi or tang) is that you throw in a male with two or three female keep the water clean and BAM, you will have fry everywhere! It takes him about 20 pages to say this, in which he keeps repeating about just putting the fish in together and keeping the water clean. This book is trash and I am highly dissapointed, I wouldnt sell it for the simple fact that I would feel as though I am cheating someone out of money. If you are, on the other hand, looking for a book because your 2 year old seems to be fascinated by fish and fish pictures, then this would be ok for you. Out of the 448 pages 300 are pictures with no information about keeping the fish in an aquaria whatsoever, no explanations & poor "guessing at the correct names"; as he refers to over and over again "this is probably a ___ sp " Very jumbled and poorly organized ; even with the photos ~ this book doesnt even deserve 1 star!
- I thought that this book will have all the info i'll need for my African cichlids aquariums, but this book is a total flop ,
surprising with the names that were responsible for its release. It has little info on the life of the African cichlid of lake Malawi & Tanganyka and nothing else , it is mainly a picture book (more then 90%) WITHOUT any data on the fish in the pics. It seems i'm stuck with it but you can find much much better books to spend your money on.
- I bought this book in order to gain practical information on cichled species and their identification but I am highly dissapointed. It is full of pictures with a lot of missing information (such as sexsing, behaviour or breeding) and it is full of technical descriptions which are not helpful for an amateur aquarist. Photos of the lake Malawi and Tanganyika fishes are all mixed up; pages are not organised at all.
- One expects when buying a book by such a respected author to acquire a truly great book. This is not the case with this book. First of all, most photography are of very poor quality. Second, not all pages are numbered! This make the job of identifying fishes a lot harder. I'm very disapointed.

5 comments about Earthdog Ins and Outs: Guiding Natural Instincts for Success in Earthdog Tests and Den Trials.
- It is a hardcover book and approximatley A4 size and 256 pages. As an example of what is in the book the chapters are as follows.
Ch 1. Terriers and Dacshunds-Earthdogs to the Bone Ch 2. The deep roots surrounding earthdogs Ch 3. Artificial den trials in the USA. Ch 4. Artifical earthdog trials worldwide - Germany, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Ukraine, and Georgia. Quite amazing the different den types that are used. The Danes for example use live foxes. Ch 5. Earthdog breeds-designed for work. Covers over 30 breeds including the Jack Russell Terrier. Ch 6. Selecting a breed and puppy. Ch 7. Entering a puppy or novice dog. Ch 8. Advanced Work-digging deeper Ch 9. Exhibiting at trials and tests Ch 10. Show Time-how to host a den trial. Ch 11. Field work-the real thing for your buddy. Appendix A - Care of rats and making scent. Appendix B - Building tunnel liners, obstacles, and cages. Appendix C - Sources of Information. Appendix D - Glossary of Working Earthdog terms Except for the cover the photos are black and white but there are plenty of them within the 256 pages. I think a must for the serious earthdogger.
- This is a good one. Lots of info on getting started. A definit must to any earthdog enthusiast. A real asset to anyone just starting out or someone who is already involved just to learn more.
- Book gives an excellent history of working terriers up to today's terriers as we know them. It has well researched documentation on each breed and its origin. Comprehensive in the explanation of terrier hunting, performance events, both in the US and abroad. Outstanding chapters on selecting a puppy, training, terrier/dachshund organizations, and many other items of interest to both the earthdog novice and enthusiast. I have read/studied almost every book in print (current and discontinued) concerning working terriers and I would rank this book as the "bible" in it's relationship to the others.
- This book is written in a way that will appeal to all actual and prospective terrier owners. Frier-Murza adds depth and breadth to our basic understanding of terriers. For depth, the book covers the history of terriers (with many quotes from the 2nd century BC to the present). Illustrations from hunts in 16th century France are especially interesting. It also discusses the social forces that resulted in the emergence of today's breeds (about 30 pages). Being bred for earth work is the reason for the terrier's independence and ability to figure things out for itself, as well as the terrier's interest in chasing, tugging, etc. While actually working earth dogs is not for everyone, understanding our dog's drives and why they were bred to be the way they are can make each of us a more sensitive owner. For breadth, 29 different earthdog breeds are also highlighted in a section the brings out the working character and history, as well as the functional strengths of each breed (over 100 well illustrated pages). Breeds covered include the AKC working terriers as well as breeds like the German Jagdterrier and the American Feist and Rat Terrier (illustrated on the lap of Teddy Roosevelt). These 29 breed summaries are grouped by the regions (also described) in which the breeds emerged, thus placing them in historic and geographic context. Compared to Migliorini's book, Frier-Murza takes a more comprehensive and accurate view of both the history of the terrier's and also breed history. For example, Migliorini gives only 25 (smaller) pages (with larger type) to breed descriptions, compared to the 100 pages Frier-Murza provides. The book is very handsomely produced in near coffee table format. The hard cover book (with oversize pages) contains extensive photos. The photos are very clear, illustrative, and well produced
- For earthdog owners who are also interested in (or already involved) in earthdog tests, the book offers a wide range of sound advice from the recognized US expert. The book covers how to select a breed and a puppy if you plan to do earthwork; how to introduce the young dog to quarry and tunnel work; how to train for the typical tests offered in the US; exhibiting at trials; and how to set up and host a trial (about 100 pages). It also provides descriptions of actual field work (from the human and canine point of view). While the book focuses on artificial hunting tests in the US, it compares the US tests to those in other countries, and describes historical and modern hunting practices (another 30 pages). The section on training and trials is illustrated with photos of events, dogs working, tunnel diagrams, how-tos, and suggested training aids. It includes Q&A style problem solving guides to perennial questions such as "What do I do about a dog who doesn't bark?" This makes it easy to find the solution to a problem when you need it. The subtitle for the book, "Guiding Natural Instincts for Success," expresses how earthdog work is different from the other wonderful canine performance events like obedience and agility. In obedience and agility we actively train a dog to do cooperative things under our "control". These are mostly things it would never do on its own. In earthdog work, even tests, the handler merely guides (or brings out) the dog's instincts to help it do something independently, something it has an innate desire to do. In working, we depend on it to figure out for itself how to handle each new situation. We may cooperate with it in the work, but ours is the supporting/enabling role. The dog is clearly the star. Compared to the only other available earthdog book (by Migliorini), Frier-Murzas book covers both basic and more advanced topics (advanced tests, setting up trials, building tunnels) and provides more and better illustrations. More importantly, Frier-Murza explains how earthdog work is qualitatively different from obedience training and conformation showing. Viewing earthdog work as training (as the other book does) could get you off to the wrong start. Earthdog Ins and Outs is your guide to earthdogs, whether you are beginner or you are also a seasoned earthdog enthusiast who wants advice from THE expert in this beautiful book.

2 comments about Call of the Loon (Camp and Cottage).
- This is the best book about loons that I have found thus far...the photos are lovely and not typical and there is so much detailed information about everything you would want to know about loons...the style is clear and concise with photos and information in tandem reinforcing what Mr Strong tells of his travels and experiences with loons and others who study them. Photos are all well and good, but when an author is this knowledgable and organized in thought, it is a pleasure to see as well as learn about these unusual birds. You will NOT be disappointed!
- Lovely, interesting book! It's packed with information, but written in such a comfortable style that it's a pleasure to read. The writing is so clear. Strong has great respect for and love of the loon. I can't say enough about Strong's obvious integrity and appreciation for nature. You will want to own this! The selected reading list in the back gives info for those who would like to read even more. I bought two to give as gifts. (take a look at his "Wild Moose Country" book too!)

5 comments about Flower Essences for Animals: Remedies for Helping the Pets You Love.
- I love books, but this one I may burn as kindling. I own a bunch of flower essence books, including several flower essences + animals. I've owned this book for years and it was a waste of money. Not helpful AT ALL! Full of fluff. Don't pay more than $5. One star is too many, but Amazon won't let a person choose 0 stars.
- This book is a must have! I learned more about my cats in Lila's book than I did in all my years living with them. Her approach to explaining remedies that will help our pets is done in such a loving manner. Even if you don't have a pet now, this book will guide you in being a responsible pet owner when you do adopt a pet. I have found her remedies and flower/fruit essences to be very helpful in managing the health of my cats. The advice works!!
- This book is for any loving pet owner. Whether it be cats or dogs you favor, this book will come as an amazing resource for anyone looking to help or better understand our four-legged friends. Ms. Devi offers a very thorough explanation of animal behavior and their reactions to the flower essences. She also does a surprisingly understandable walk-through of the flower essences. Definetly a five-star (*****) book.
- Flower remedies for humans have been covered, but Flower Essences For Animals is the first tailored to animals which provides remedies for helping pets. From using essences to understand animal behaviors to learning how different essences benefit different animals, Flower Essences For Animals provides an intriguing survey.
- I had found flower essences to be an extremely useful method for myself and other humans to heal some of worries and fears of everyday life, so I turned to Ms. Devi's book with great anticipation for how I might also improve my relationship with my pets ( 1 dog, 4 cats) and how the flower essences might improve their relationships with each other and feel better about themselves. Ms. Devi gives much guiding wisdom for better understanding the living situation from the pet's perspective, and how the flower essences can most help each pet according to their individual personalities and needs. I have seen my relationship with my pets grow even more meaningful and can attest to the fact that if you attend to their emotional needs, in addition to their physical needs, you will be rewarded with the tremendous well of unconditional love which our pets have available for us. I especially like the index of personality traits and symptoms at the end of the book - very helpful for those "quick-need" situations.

1 comments about Psychic Pet: Supernatural True Stories of Paranormal Animals.
- This book has become a phenomenal international success and has amazed me. The strange, often weird tales within its pages startled me as I conducted my extensive research.
Anyone who reads this book can share their own Psychic Pet stories with me. I am now researching the next title in the series. All who enjoyed Psychic Pets should have a look at my two new titles; Animals Make You Feel Better and STAR SIGNS: For You And Your Pet. Email me at jacemngt@jacemngt.demon.co.u

2 comments about Mitsuaki Iwago's Whales.
- It is obvious that Mitsuaki Iwago went to great lengths to produce the photography he displays in this book. His photo captures of the cooperative 'bubble feeding' behavior of the humpbacks is remarkable. This type of behavior seems to be unique to the humpback whales of southeast Alaska which Mr. Iwago has done a remarkable job documenting in this book with absolutely fascinating photography. This is one book that should not be left out of any collection pertaining to whales.
- Some of the photos in this book are the best I've ever seen of nature photography. It's a book I've enjoyed looking through many times with my son, who is now 3 years old. My only quibble is that some of the photos are too much alike, e.g., too many spouts together in one place. But I hate to say anything negative at all about such a beautiful set of pictures. There's also some useful information about humpback whales.

1 comments about Everything Dog Health Book: A Complete Guide To Keeping Your Best Friend Healthy From Head To Tail (Everything: Pets).
- A large but lightweight volume covering many topics. Information is easy to find through a good cross-referenced index and well-grouped Table of Contents. The information is concise, easy to read and understand. However, I don't think this book is meant to replace your veterinarian.
