1 comments about The Equine Body.
- What a refreshing way to look at the body of the horse. I loved the colour illustrations and the cut and paste diagrams, though a little daunting at first. were much easier to put together than I first imagined and really help to learn about the body.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about how the horse functions or as a wonderful gift to a horse owner.

5 comments about Pugs in Public.
- This is a book for all the pug lovers out there...I enjoyed all the pictures and stories about people just as obsessed with pugs as I am. Highly Recommended.
- This book contains pics of pugs. Pugs are perfect. Need I say more??
- Pugs are a unique breed and if you like Pugs or know someone who does they will LOVE this book! It is gorgeous with many great pictures of Pugs all over New York. It doesn't have much information on the breed but that is not the point of it, its a small coffee table book with some lovely anecdotes about Pugs. I am away from home at uni so when I miss my Pug I flip through this book!
I definitely recommend it!
- Nice book about and for people who pamper their Pugs. Not intended to be a "useful training tool" (I don't know where the reviewer below got the impression that it was supposed to be..!) but just a cute fluffy book about a select group of upscale NYC pugs and their eccentric owners. Photos and more info of "Pug Hill" in Central Park would have been nice (but perhaps too common?). Makes a good mini-coffee table book or x-mas gift for your uppity Pug pals.
- I purchased this book few weeks ago and it is already one of favorite pug books in my personal collection. I am a friend (instead of being called a master or an owner) of several pugs since I was about 8 years old. Now two of them are living with me. Pug is an amazing creature and I have been trying to make others understand why I feel what I feel about pugs. This book is a wonderful way to show others the amazing Pug world!

1 comments about Teaching a Parrot to Talk (Caring for a Parrot).
- There is only about 1/3 of a page's worth of useful information in this book. And it's all the same stuff you can find in any good book about parrot care (start young, use structure, be animated, use contextual references, be patient). A book by Blanchard, Athan, or Doane will tell you these things, but they will also give you much more complete information on training and care. This book is, instead, filled with many big, glossy photographs. They are beautiful, but quite useless. Perhaps this is a good child's picture book.

2 comments about The Betta Handbook (Barron's Pet Handbooks).
- This book has tons of information in it if you are writing a detailed report on the background, history and subtypes of bettas. It has a great deal about wild bettas and types of bettas. It wasn't until over half-way through the book that it actually told me information on keeping the betta splenden as a pet, and then it went back to the history lesson again.
The information that he provided about food types for Bettas was the most helpful part in the whole book.
- If you can only get 1 book about Bettas this should be it. Dr. Goldstein is an expert and although I do disagree with some of his thoughts on the need to keep Betta variety names to a strict scientific form, I realise his intentions are good as well as valid. His overview of the Betta world is most complete and the many less known "wild" betta species receive excellent coverage in his effort. I do wish it had more photos of the more recent varieties that have been developed such as the Crowntail and Halfmoon but the descriptions are very good and a web directory guides readers to sites which will fill in the gaps. Any of Dr. Goldsteins books are an excellent addition to the Betta or other tropical fish fanciers library. I've been keeping Bettas for more than 40 years now and Dr. Goldstein's books were there every step of the way. This book will most definitely enhance your pleasure in keeping these fascinating little fish!

1 comments about Cat Caught My Heart: Purrfect Tales of Wisdom, Hope, and Love.
- If you love cats, you will love this book, which is a collection of true stories about cats and the people they love. You'll laugh and you'll cry as you remember how many of the stories also happened to you and your cat. When you're finished, you will want to get another cat, or at least feel compelled to send a donation to the nearest shelter.

3 comments about Mustangs: Wild Horses of the West.
- I found this book fascinating, both the vivid photography and the acompanying narrative served to give an amazing portrayal of the lives of America's wild horses.
- This is a captivating book. It is full of sensational and moving images of horses. The writing too is done by the photographer/authors...These two French people are clearly biologist/naturalists and true lovers of these horses, who know them better than anyone. They have lived with them for more than five years, intensely studying and photographing them. The book is an utterly beautiful and riveting look into the lives of these majestic animals. It has been a phenominal best selling book in France, which is why is is available here, translated into impecable English. When you have absorbed the beauty and information in this book, you will be moved and changed by the experience; you will have become an expert in horses. A very strongly recomended book for horse people, all animal lovers, and for lovers of great wildlife photography. sdb
- Excellent book. I learned a lot of new things. Photos superb. Would have like more photoes. Three people who saw my book have purchased one either for themselves or for a gift.

5 comments about The Essential Miniature Schnauzer (Essential (Howell)).
- I have raised this breed for many years. This book had information in it that I didn't know about the breed. And I consider myself to be knowledgeable of this breed.I've been around this breed since childhood.I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a miniature schnauzer and also someone who may just be getting started breeding.
- I was very pleased with my purchase of this book. It really was entertaining and I was not looking for details on how to clip, etc... that's for professionals or people with that interest. I think anyone looking to get to know this breed should definitely purchase this book. I haven't gotten a puppy yet, but will do so in the new year and this book helped me make that decision. Great read!
- I picked up this book when I was trying to find out which dog I wanted after narrowing down my choices. This book is pretty general and doesn't go into much detail. I still look at it once in a while, but still, if you're looking for a lot of information about the Mini Schnauzer, you're only going to find general info in here.
- This is the best book about Miniature Schnauzers that I have read. A friend gave us a Schnauzer and this book fits him like a glove. It would be a wonderful addition to the family library even if you don't have a Schnauzer. It's really all you need to know.
- For [a few dollars] more, you can get the same info in "The Miniature Schnauzer : Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet".
I'm a new Miniature Schnauzer owner and I wanted to get all the info I could about these guys. So, I ordered both the books and read this one first. Then, I picked up the larger "...Owner's Guide..." and was very disappointed, since after a couple of sentences it was "deja vu all over again". When I finally read the fine print inside the jacket I found that this is an abridged version of the larger book. Hence the "Essential...." handle. The two books sound like they have different authors but not really. The "et al" portion is not well defined. In reality, the "et al" are part of the committee that authored the larger book. Oh well, its a small dog isn't it? Neither of the books go into the kind of detail I was looking for. For example, I wanted to know how to clip this guy, but all it "essentially" says is to take it to your groomer and ask questions...as if they want you around while they're buzzing your little guy or girl. If I were to do it over, armed with my present wisdom, I'd probably buy the larger book and forget this one, although the larger book doesn't get into any more detail than this one. Maybe, I wouldn't buy either.

5 comments about Housecat: How to Keep Your Indoor Cat Sane and Sound.
- I found this book easy to read and informative. "Housecat" covers every aspect of life with indoor cats, as well as health issues faced at some time by everyone with cats in their daily lives. It gives you solutions for problems you never knew you had!! Now if only I could get my cats to read it!!!
- An experienced and gifted writer shares her very thought out & comprehensive "Step by step" book on how to keep your feline happy in the house! This information is coming from someone who has delt with this situation. I've seen it "FIRST HAND" and know that this book is based on experience and truth!
- Because I am an experienced foster feline home, I read every cat care book available.I am not a vet so I need precise, yet relatively short info on many cat care topics. This book is good for the new adopter or cat care-giver who don't read or have accesss to real, in-depth publications. The paragrahs are specific, interesting and easy to read.I love this book and found that my cat adopters feel this is the first and best book to have.It is in the center of my library.Sometimes it is hard to find but I encourage my new (and even experienced owners) to read.It says it all- and simply!
- I quite agree with the author - a cat should be kept inside. This is a MUST READ for any cat owner who TRULY loves their cat and puts feline welfare above their own. My own cat, Mrs. DiddyWampusnoodles of Pemblokington, a Registered Persian "vision" in light smoky gray, would NEVER be happy outdoors with those flea-invested rat-eating mongrel cats you find residing in the alleys and by-ways of lower class people who cannot even afford to clothe their pets in a proper manner.
The chapter on providing a stimulating cat-friendly environment is very good, although the author could have provided information on CUSTOM-made cat sofas and divans which are available from several fine craftsmen and well worth the $800 or $900. I replace DiddyWam's every other year when I redecorate her room, to ensure that her furniture "fits" the décor chosen by the Feline Interior Design Artist. I myself would never attempt to trim DiddyWam's claws - I leave that to her personal hygienist, but I suppose if one were living in a remote area with no feline hygienists available, this would be useful information. Overall this would be an excellent beginner's book for those who have just discovered the joys of existing with felines, and who wish to prevent their precious baby from mingling with inferior cats such as those found outside one's home.
- This book answered many questions I had (& ones I hadn't even thought of yet).
I am a first-time kitten owner, for lack of a better word. ("Owner" is not PC, I know.) Having also purchased at least 5 other cat behavior/care books, I was happily surprised to find a different approach in Christine Church's HOUSECAT. She goes into detail on many subjects dealing with living with and nurturing your housecats, yet her style of writing is not dry. She writes in an easily understood, matter-of-fact manner that covered everything that I wondered and worried about, my being new to housecats. Just one example: she covers the different types of cat litter on the market, explaining what the merits & disadvantages are of each. Being new to all this, litter box filler can be confusing without some specific info and opinions about all the choices that exist, and she sufficiently covered it for me. Her manner is that of an experienced cat person, having 11 herself (at the time she wrote the book), and this can be a refreshing contrast to that of a vet. (Books by vets are aboundingly helpful, but after purchasing more than a handful of them, I was interested in checking out a different perspective.) Also, having had as many cats as she has, she has diverse experience, such as living with blind and elderly cats. Occasionally, you might not agree with an opinion or two of hers, as with anyone, but anyone with a cat (or cats) of their own can probably sort out the few ideas that don't work for them. This book is worth the sorting-out.
