3 comments about What's Wrong with My Iguana?.
- Speaking as someone who has inherited two iguanas from my brother, they aren't easy animals to care for. People tend to think that they're like cats, that you can just let them roam freely without a thought. But iguanas are complicated pets, with very specific needs in terms of food, temperature, and attention. This book is an excellent introduction to anyone who either owns an iguana or is considering owning one. They aren't just simple lizards. They're like children, with all the same needs and demands. I daresay that iguanas even have emotional needs that aren't often talked about, and my one disappointment about this book was that, like all the others, it tends to downplay the emotional complexity of reptiles. Lizards do get lonely, just like dogs. If you leave an iguana to roam freely in a troubled household, I guarantee you will learn to recognize a neurotic lizard. No, they don't become obsessive-compulsive or anything. But I've seen iguanas refuse to eat, tear up kitchens and sofas out of spite, intentionally hurt themselves, and bite dinner guests. The book is a tremendous guide to these sensitive animals, but it does not delve deeply into rehabilitating those pets that have been mistreated in the past, and one should never think that just because reptiles lack the same brain structure as mammals that they bear no signs of earlier abuse. Iguanas need love just like everything else, from ferrets to pythons, and the book, while solid in the practical sense, needs to stress this even more.
- This book will show you whats wrong with your Iguana. And let you know what to do in a situation that you don`t know what to do. This book will help you raise your Iguana, I highly recomend this book
- This book would be a good starter book for new iguana owners. It tells you things from their eating habits, changing colors, injuries, temp setting and and so forth.
If you are a new iguana owner or are considering to buy one of these reptiles I would recommend this one to start you off.

2 comments about Protection Dogs for You and Your Family.
- A true classic. Action, suspense, and dog training! With many, many pictures of photo-man! Don't miss it!
- Weiss & Tom Rose, his co-author, are American experts in the German dog sport, Schutzhund ("protection dog"). Explaining principles and methods they used in training champion protection dogs, the authors demonstrate how to select and train a dog that will not only protect your home, but also be a friendly compainion to your family and friends. Anyone can go out and find a mean, angry dog that will protect a house just as well as it will bite your guests. Likewise, anyone can find a dog so friendly that it will lick your child's face just as easily as asking an intruder to shake its paw. Finding and training a dog that will protect your home but also romp and play with your freinds and loved ones is far, far more difficult. Let these experts show you the way.

2 comments about Encyclopedia of Turtles.
- If you love turtles, this is a book that should be easily accessible to you at all times. Mine sits right on my desk and I reference it often. I am not a professional but rather a turtle guardian for 28 turtles that I call pets. This book has proven to be an awesome reference for every turtle easily available and those not so easily obtained. Hard core information in an easy to read format. It's out of print so you'll need to buy a used one but it's worth it! I only wish an updated version of the book would be written to include newly available information and photos.
- Encyclopedias of any description cannot be separated from their intended audience. This book, by one of the heroes of Chelonia studies, manages to be comphrehensive, scholarly and entertaining at the same time and can be found on the shelves of amateur enthusiasts, research scientists and blissful pet owners. The text is direct, not overly laden with scientific terminology, and easily accessible. I feel that the illustrations don't alway match the high standard of the writing but the general comment on this book is that it is already a classic and probably the one book which anyone in turtle biology must have.

3 comments about Training the Hunting Retriever: The New Program.
- My heart was filled with joy when I began reading Bill Tarrant because I had found an author who does not believe in using physical abuse to train a dog. However, as I read further, I discovered that some of his methods lean toward emotional abuse, which is just as bad. How can a man consider starving his dog to gain obedience a sound, humane method of training(Chapter 4, Pg. 74)? And then to turn around and call the electronic collar inhumane?
I like Bill Tarrant's style for the most part, and I like his writing, but I think some of his methods border on torture. He may shy away from the physical abuse, but he is not shy about being cruel. Why, oh why can't someone write about a training method that lies somewhere in between? I have a GSP who I have trained myself, and I have combined the methods of Bill Tarrant with those of others to get my desired results. I do not beat my dog, nor do I stake her in the yard putting her on a water-only diet, and she seems to be responding just fine. This is a good training book with solid ideas, but it is a stretch to call it humane.
- this is the best book on training a retreiver i have ever read. i agree wholeheartedly with the author's views on the use of force in dog training, and most other methods dictate that some force be used. mr. tarrant has helped america one step at a time to become better trainers and better friends to the dogs that share lifes. very well done.
- Most methods of dog training rely heavly on the use of
force. This method is an excellent alternative.
The techniques are simple and effective, but will require a lot of hands on work for the handler.
This is not a twenty minute program that will have you walking with a perfectly trained pooch. Rather a life time of commitment by you and your buddy.

1 comments about The Dolphin Doctor.
- I really enjoyed this book. It's about Dr. Ridgway's personal experience with dolphins as he and the team attempted to determine if the natural behaviors of the dolphins could be adopted for work with Naval security. The book is often funny, sometimes dramatic and always fascinating. He writes in such a way that I felt I was there working with them. It's hard to believe it was 40 - 50 years ago now. It'e easy to read and I think older children would enjoy it as well.

1 comments about Bearded Dragon: Your Happy Healthy Pet.
- I have 14 dragons and own every care book on Bearded Dragons available. This is by far the worst source. Much of the information provided is incorrect and I find it hard to believe the Author has ever owned a Bearded Dragon. If there was such a thing as a book recall this one should certainly be on the list.
