4 comments about Kerry Blue Terrier (Comprehensive Owner's Guide).
- I bought this book for my father who owns a Kerrie Blue. I mentioned the book to him prior to purchasing it & he reminded me that he hates to read & I had better not even think about buying him a book for Christmas. I didn't. Paudie, his Kerry Blue did. I called a couple days later to see if he was reading it and much to my surprise, he had already read it cover to cover! He couldn't stop telling me how much he enjoyed it and how it described Paudie perfectly. Paudie's family was mentioned in the book, as well as his breeder. My father reading this book from cover to cover in less than two days is the highest compliment a book can have!
- Two years ago I obtained my beloved Kerry Blue Terrier, as my first official dog and first show dog. About 7 Months prior to purchasing him, I had pre-ordered this book through my local bookstore and when they had it in I was ecstatic...I had already heard that the author was a "Terrier Guru," so I had faith that this book would help me learn a bit more about the breed. And it certainly had. When I finally brought my little guy home, I had finished reading the whole thing, but was glad to have it around for a quick reference every now and then...two years later, I still look through the book whenever I need help with a Kerry issue (though his breeder is wonderful help, too!).
A big plus for me is that his father, grandparents, and great grandparents are featured in this book! So it's always fun to show people what great specimens of the breed his bloodline consists of :)
I totally recommend this book to anyone considering a Kerry! Bardi McLennan does a good job describing the breed's history, health, grooming needs, etc.
And if you decide that the Kerry is the not right terrier for you, she has written many other great terrier books worth checking into.
- I research the breed for a while prior purchasing a puppy, I wanted to make sure we are the right family for this dog. This book was very comprehensive and among all those I had looked at it was the one I purchase for the content and amount of information regarding the most important aspects a new dog owner ought to know. The price was right too.
Thank you!
- Excellent book - met all my needs about obtaining and training a Kerry Blue.

2 comments about Complete Care For Your Aging Dog.
- This is the book to buy if you want to know if your dog really is a senior dog, what defines aging in a dog, how to recognize the difference between aging and illness, and how to provide just the right care for your furry senior friend. As the name says, it's a "complete" and thorough guide with plenty of tips to help you help your dog live happily and healthily through their golden years.
A multi-dog owner and dog-writer from Ohio.
- Amy Shojai's _Complete Care for Your Aging Dog_ is a fabulous book for all dog lovers. Not only is it a must-have reference -- meticulously researched, easy to navigate, excellent examples -- but it is filled with heart and soul and love, mirroring all the best characteristics of our beloved companion canines. This is a book written by someone who obviously *cares* about dogs and the people who share their lives with them; even if your dog is still young you'll benefit by reading it. Ms. Shojai demystifies the aging process and her L.O.V.E. program for health validates and puts into practical terms the intuitive sense we often have that something is just "not right" with our companion. Throughout the book, Ms. Shojai emphasizes partnering with your dog's veterinarian to help your dog realize optimum health and longevity. I can't recommend it highly enough!

3 comments about Cats and Carols.
- every christmas eve i bring out this book and we sit by the fire with cookies and milk and i read this to my daughter and granddaughter we all enjoy it very much
- Cats and Carols by Lesley Anne Ivory is filled with vibrant, Christmas-themed backgrounds in which her beautifully realistic cats play, cuddle, nap, and pose. In fact, there is one picture of a fuzzy yellow kitten, named Dandelion, napping on a patchwork Christmas quilt. I have been collecting fabrics in order to replicate the quilt. For each cat portrait there is a Christmas carol; some have more verses than I knew existed! This is a wonderful book! If you love Christmas, and/or cats and/or Christmas carols, I highly recommend this book!
- This is a lavishly illustrated picture book with a gorgeous layout: each 2-page spread features the text of a Christmas carol (with all the verses, not just the familiar ones) with decorative initial letters and a lovely border on the left page; the facing page contains a painting (with matching border) of a cat or cats in a setting that illustrates the carol. Although the settings are fantastical, the paintings are realistic rather than cartoonish or childish in any way, so that the cats look absolutely real. Both adults and childrens can enjoy this beautiful book.

2 comments about Crocodiles and Alligators.
- Thank you for your timely shipping of this book. I ordered it for a friend and I'm sure they will be happy to get it in the near future.
- There are many other books on the subject, I know I have them all, but take it from a herpetologist who works with these guys, this is the best one. Great basic descriptions of species, behavior, physiology, attacks on humans, pred-prey relations, mating and baby gator rearing. Wonderful pics, appropriate for kids and adults. Written by a series of experts in their fields for the broadest possible audience.

3 comments about Cat Culture: The Social World of a Cat Shelter (Animals, Culture, and Society).
- I am reading this book in college for a book review. Wonderful book i think so anyways. i a cat lover read this book all my friends with a cat child.
your friend peter
- As noted in the title, this book deals with a single shelter; it is not clear whether the findings can be generalized to other sites. The author was sometimes intrusive.
- This book is a wonderful combination of intelligent information and a loving tribute toward our warm, furry companions and intimate friends. The entire book is the sign of personal, cognitive, and emotional experience that leads to the raising questions about cats' existence as sentient beings. The book clearly establishes the fact that our furry friends are capable of emotional expression and their sensitivity is not a matter of mere affect but an aspect of growing awareness. The wonderful point this book makes is that to be appropriately sensitive to other beings' way is to experience them as real, breathing, and living entities. This book ultimately gives a direction by showing that the wonderful bridge of connectedness of human and other beings is possible through direct and deep experience. It is wonderful to realize that compassion is the way to learn and love.

1 comments about Heddon Catalogs 1902-1953: Over 50 Years of Great Fishing.
- I read through this at the library. The Heddon heritage is kept well alive with this book and any fisherman or collector would be missing out if they don't read about Heddon's legacy. Because of the Heddon family, we now have a $30 billion dollar recreational fishing industry supporting over 300,000 jobs.

5 comments about Love, Miracles, and Animal Healing.
- I am twelve years old, and have great dreams of being a vet some day. I always like to read vet books, and when I found this one at the library I was amazed, it look awsome. I read it, and thought it was even better. I am now looking to purchase a copy, one for me, and one for Nina,(a friend of mine) and one for Kendra(another friend). I think that this is an awsome book, and if you haven't read it you should.
Allan tells wonderful tales of his life as a vet, and the absured treatments that he used. Nothing was too absured, he even untwisted the cow when he couldn't untwist the uterous! He also uses acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
I don't have a pet:(, but if I did I would want a vet like Allan to take care of it for me.
- Allen Schoen and Pam Proctor bring us a rich, detailed spectrum of ways in which love, intuition and complementary/ alternative therapies can help animals small and large. This book is rich in anecdotes and reports of healings on physical, psychological and spiritual levels for animals with these approaches after conventional veterinary care had exhausted its potentials to help. Schoen integrates acupuncture, homeopathy and herbal remedies in his practice.
This is a truly wholistic book, addressing body, emotions, mind, relationships and spirit - both of the animals who were helped and of their owners.
Schoen illustrates his work with many heartwarming stories of his challenges and adventures with animals and their owners.
A typical example is Schoen's description of how he nursed a wild hawk who was paralyzed from the neck down following injuries from a power line. Schoen found ways to tame and heal this wary creature so that it could recover, eventually returning to his wilderness home. As with many of his animal patients, Schoen found himself learning and growing in the process of his ministrations.
" ...no creature can remain forever closed to the healing power of love. I knew that if I could establish an intimate relationship with a bird of prey, I could communicate with any animal, no matter how distant or fearsome it might appear to be. All I would need was a sensitivity of spirit, a willingness to open myself nonjudgmentally to a dimension of reality where feathers, fur, skin, scales, or hair are stripped away - and where the only language is love.
"Hawkeye had his freedom, and now I had mine. He had given me my wings, and I was ready to soar." (p. 71)
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in learning about ways of healing that extend beyond conventional veterinary care.
- A mixture of tender stories and practical advice. I've read the book many times and with each reading, I'm always moved to try a little harder to communicate with my pets. Great book. Wish I had a vet like this.
- DR. SCHOEN IS AN INCREDIBLE INDIVIDUAL. IT WAS AMAZING TO READ MY OWN BELIEFS IN PRINT. THE FEELINGS I HAVE ABOUT ANIMALS AND THEIR ABILITIES ARE THE EXACT PRINCIPLES BY WHICH DR. SCHOEN PRACTICES. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY ANIMAL LOVER. I RECEIVED IT FOR CHRISTMAS AND FINISHED IT CHRISTMAS NIGHT. IT IS TRULY A TREASURE
- Dr. Schoen has once again succesfully captured the attention
of his readers with a warm yet informative account on
the veterinary experience. His years of medical expertise and
devotion to his field add to the composition of his book.
Flavored with plenty of heart-felt emotions, his tales of
his animal companions really remind Us, as humans, what
it is to care for another living creature. Dr. Schoen
effectively conveys his numerous veterinary experiences, and
even manages to shed some Western thought on the ancient,
Eastern art of acupuncture.
