5 comments about The Pit Bull Placebo: The Media, Myths and Politics of Canine Aggression.
- OH MY GOD, this was one of the best books I've read. This book should be mandatory reading in schools so young kids can understand the reason why some dogs bite, since obviously their parents dont explain it to them. And it also just goes to show you how ridiculous our politicians are when they have FACTS in front of them about dog bite cases but still rely on the media for their information. This book totally opened up my eyes to the reasons and causes for dog bites that I was unaware of.THANK YOU,THANK YOU Karen Delise for writting this AMAZIMG book.I hope millions of people will read it.
- Interesting reading for anyone concerned about dogs, breed specific legislation and the images the media create. I am not a pit bull owner and I do not live in the USA but by the end of the book I had more sympathy for this and other breeds of dog labelled "dangerous". The facts behind specific attacks and the historical news clips are quite compelling. Well written level headed exploration of an issue that puts the responsibility for dog attacks firmly back on the owners supposedly entrusted to care for them and explores issues that if implemented would do more to reduce attack rates than breed specific legislation.
- A very interesting read for anyone who owns any breed of dog or is thinking about acquiring one. very informative well researched and written. With myself owning an English Bull terrier for 9 years I from a lot of people have been told untruths about that type of dog. Now i know the truth. Recommend it highly
- EXCELLANT BOOK ABOUT WHAT THE MEDIA CAN DO TO A MAN OR A DOG BREED ONCE IT SETS IT SIGHTS ON THEM. IT TELLS THE HISTORY OF ALL THE BREEDS OF DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN ABUSED BY MAN.
- As a pitbull owner who has had to face the condemnation of my dog and myself a number of times this book was a welcome read. The details provided as well as the insight into the mind of the american public and the media over the centuries towards dogs and dog breeds was fascinating. In a way it gives hope to the bully breeds that someday their time of being hated and feared can sometime come to an end.
Read this book if you have ever owned a dog who is feared simply for its breed whether it be a pitbull, German Shepherd, Rottie, Doberman, Husky etc. etc.
The author has researched back to the 1800's to provide actual documented accounst of attacks by bloodhounds and bloodhound type dogs straight up to present time and more importantly examines the circumstances behind the attacks. The moral is as usual, there are no bad dogs just bad owners.

5 comments about Equine Massage: A Practical Guide (Howell Equestrian Library).
- This is a very informative book, detailed in every way. The only problem is understanding the parts being I am a layman. But with much study I believe this book will help me recognize and determine the proper procedure to take to better comfort my mare.
- One of those timeless treasures that will be referred to over and over and over.
- Very easy to understand and follow. I am interested in becoming certified and this was a big help in showing me what will be expected and give me a jump start on learning anatomy.
- This is a great book that has become invaluable to me. It gives a good round view of massage, from anatomy to practical exercises and stretches you can do with your horse.
I think this book covers everything a horse owner needs to know about massage.
- This book is very good. My horse has back problems and I found the book helpful as to how to massage him so he feels better. The book has alot of great information and I would recommend it highly.

3 comments about The Dog Lover's Companion to the Pacific Northwest: The Inside Scoop on Where to Take Your Dog.
- This book is a MUST-HAVE for any dog owner(s) that takes the pooch with em when they go! It has a GREAT rating system and also highlights "people-interests" as well as places to dine, places to stay and of course detailed "dog-places". I say, "Buy one for yourself and one for the dog-lover in your life." Awesome book!
- For those of us who like to include our dogs in our adventures, this book is a great guide. It covers western WA & OR, as well as the southwestern corner of BC, Canada. Each of these areas is subdivided into regions such as the Kitsap Peninsula or the San Juan Islands. Within that region dog friendly locations are rated and described. You get the scoop on the good and bad of each location, which helps when you're trying to decide if it's worth visiting. You can also tell which locations allow your dog to be off leash. Places to eat and stay the night are also noted and described.
One thing I didn't like about this book is that it only covers Western WA. I had hoped it would cover Eastern as well.
- Found the book to be very informative and accurate, even down to "where the road may seem to end but look to the right and you'll see the sign for" ... etc. Very helpful guide. Loved the advice of the Wonder Weiners!

4 comments about The Marine Fish Health & Feeding Handbook: The Essential Guide to Keeping Saltwater Species Alive and Thriving.
- As a marine aquarist for over thirty years and a professional for twenty five years, I have waited for such a book to come around. The in depth coverage on fish disease and plain text makes it a valuable resource for both the professonal and hobbyst alike. I have purchased a copy for all my staff. Richard Oellers President New England Aquarium Services Inc.
- I've successfully kept tropical marine aquariums in all sizes and shapes for almost thirty years - I started with a baby lionfish in a then-fashionable perspex cube and my last one was a ten-feet long, 240-gallons beautiful monster of a tank housing a whole complex reef community. I think I can safely say that Bob Goeman's new book is an exceptionally complete, well-written, easily understandable, beautifully illustrated guide to the do's and dont's of reef keeping which should not go missing from any serious marine aquarist bookshelf. I wish something of this scope had been available in the past - it would have saved me quite a few heartbreaking disasters!
- The Marine Fish Health and Feeding Handbook should be on the shelf of every novice as well as veteran saltwater hobbyist. It is a beautifully presented book. It provides an excellent common sense overview of general marine fish maintenance, feeding and healthcare.
The 232 page volume is broken down into 3 parts: The Healthy Marine Aquarium, Foods and Feeding, and Diseases and Conditions. The information contained in the 10 chapters provides a good starting point to assess why your saltwater fish tank and fish may not be thriving.
The Section on Diseases and Conditions gives the aquarium hobbyist an introduction into the complexities of treating and diagnosing fish disease. However, the medical information contained in the book is general, and in a continually changing field of new treatments and medicines for use in marine fish, is not intended to supplant the use of an aquatic animal veterinarian, or aquarium consultants such as the author Lance Ichinotsubo, to correctly diagnose and treat many similar looking fish diseases and saltwater aquarium problems.
Both authors have done a highly commendable job providing a wealth of practical knowledge in this book, garnered over their years as both aquarium hobbyists and professionals.
Les Gerson, D.V.M. Aquatic Animal Veterinarian
- I have been a tank keeper for twenty years and have read every book written on the subject. This new book by Bob Goeman's is by far the the most comprehensive, up to date, accurate, well written, and organized book to have been published in several years. The chapters on feeding and maintaing the health of the corals and fish are outstanding but there is so much other information in the book about the latest techniques of maintaining salt water aquariums. The book's title could have been "Everything You Need To Know To Maintain a Spectacular Marine Aquarium". There are at least a hundred beautiful photos and the information is cutting edge. Your tank can only benefit by your reading of this book!. It should be part of every "Reefers" library.

5 comments about Introduction to Dog Agility.
- I like the way it is written and the pictures to show what the author is talking about.
Is helping both my dog and I as we start down the Agility Road.
- If you're interested in competing, this is a very good book to get started with and to use in conjunction with agility classes. If, like me, you just want to know more about the sport and maybe do a bit of backyard agility with your dog for fun and to give her an occupation other than chewing everything in sight, then it's really too advanced!
- It gives good instruction for teaching a dog the begining of Dog agility. It makes anyone feel as though you can understand and perform any of the tasks written and described. It also teaches all of the basics of the sport. Very informative.
- I bought this book a 1 1/2 years ago because it was recommended by a local trainer and handler. It sat through my first little class of agility at the local Humane society. But, my dog loved Agility so much, I found a need to look further. What a great book for someone with little time to spend reading and a great deal of learning to be done with an active dog. It has helpful tip boxes. So, if like me, you don't read it by the chapter, but by need you get to what you are looking for fast. Clear easy language. The Contents pages are listed under concise titles and appendixes are straight forward and helpful. The equipment list for simple backyard stuff... I can actually build. The useful info on various National club's focus and their differences; and where to get more info... great stuff. Why write a review now... well, I am buying another book for a friend who is getting into agility and buying the next book too for me. And it's on sale...a bargain especially if you think how little time the class instructor has to instruct you on handling your dog.
- I read this book a few times, and liked it. It has lots of pictures and does a good job explaining the obstacles. My dog appreciated to book too. She enjoyed learning the tricks and the time we spent together while we were training.

5 comments about Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog.
- I have had dogs all my life, and though I thought I knew dogs pretty well and how to train them, I learned a lot from this book. I recognized that some of my methods were out of date. I tried these new and improved methods on a new dog I just got who is 1.5 years old. It has been amazing how quickly our bond grew from these both sensible and respectful methods of teaching. I learned not to be quite so forceful with my new friend. I learned that being Alpha in the pack did not mean having to intimidate my dogs. I highly recommend it for those who are not getting the behaviors they want and need from their dog companions, and also, for those who are considering getting or just have added a new dog of any age to the family. Knowledge like this can really save many if not most of these beautiful and loving animals from being dumped at our shelters or elsewhere.
- I am a rescuer, and I have purchased many copies of this book to give to new adopters-- and I ALWAYS recommend it to every dog owner. This book offers great instruction for training obedience-- AND lots of useful information on dog behavior.
- This book goes over the basics of puppy and dog training using positive methods. It's a great introduction to positive training methods and describes how to teach your dog a number of important behaviors. It has definitely helped me train my new puppy. My only complaint is that there are a few training descriptions that don't really tell you how to finish the exercise with your dog. For example, the book goes over the difference between "wait" and "stay" and describes how to do both, but focuses on "stay." It didn't really tell how you tell your dog he can stop the "wait." I'm going to be looking for more information to help me continue training my puppy, but I still would definitely recommend it for anyone new to dog ownership.
- this is a good book when you first get your puppy and i really like her techniques but i was looking for more tricks.
- No matter what breed or age your dog is, this book can help you train your furry friend. A must have for dog owners and professional trainers alike.

5 comments about Three Dog Bakery Cookbook: Over 50 Recipes for All-Natural Treats for Your Dog.
- I have an aged pet that has cancer. I bought this book to make homemade treats for her in an effort to help her overall health. I found the recipes to be easy to make and found most all the ingredients at my local grocery story. She loved the treats and ate them up fast.
If you are a pet owner that is concerned about the type of products used in petfood and pet treats and want to do something about it, this is the book for you.
- The recipes were good but not great and there was a lack of real variety.
- Me and my wife bought this book for our two dogs. We enjoyed making several of the treats. Although, our pets don't know the difference between the treats we made vs. store bought treats, it doesn't matter. It's a fun activity for the family to enjoy either way -- if you have the time.
- I think a lot of the recipes in this book are great, as do my dogs. But there is one very important problem with this book. There are some ingredients that dogs should not ingest, and some of those are included in these recipes! Raisins being one of them. :(
- This book is good for personal use only. Many of the recipies I may not even use due to the extravagant work or ingredients. It's not a book to purchase if you are trying to start a bakery for pets, though.

5 comments about A Beginner's Guide To Day Trading Online.
- Very informative indeed, and I am more-than-ever convinced NOT to daytrade. I know, now, that I have too little education, the wrong software, not enough energy, and not the gambling spirit. I also learned a bunch of other good stuff that can help my longer-term investing.
- I think this book in absolutely a must for anyone who is interested in finding out how to day trade, has the intellectual capacity to feel they can succeed, but has really no clue how the stock market works!! Everything you've always wanted to know about day trading 'but were afraid to ask'. Toni starts from square one and explains everything from bid price, offers, indexes and the history of the stock market. If you are beyond this level, then you will likely feel it is too basic, 'chatty' or 'inspirational' in the first half of her book. Personally, it has proven to be an invaluable resource. Toni's writing style is clear and she gives great analogies and speaks in layman's terms while dissecting and discussing the complexities of trading. It goes from big picture to hands-on detailed examples and strategies. Thanks Toni!
- I would higly recommend any novice or not so very experienced trader to read this book, and reread it once you have a some experience. She has explained various day and swing trading setups very thouroughly and does it without making it very complicated.
- This $10 book has made me double my money in a couple months in OTCBB/Pinksheet stocks. This explains big board stocks but is everything the same as penny stocks. Buy this book if you want to start trading. The author gives instructions in spoken word not scientific as some books do. This is as if someone was talking to you not a college lecture you can't just jump into.
As with that, I've doubled my money and expect to be a millionaire from HARD work, remember that. My recommendation, it's a buy!
- Please read this book BEFORE you start day trading. There are so many pitfalls to this profession that you must be armed with useful tools before you start doing it. It is much to easy to lose everything gradually or rapidly for the beginner. Don't follow her recommendations at your own peril.
