2. JUST FELINE FRIENDS: A CAT'S TRIBUTE TO COMRADES, COMPANIONS & CONFIDANTS is that perfect answer for little gifts for favorite friends, especially those who happen to be cat fanciers. Though there are many similar books on the market, books that survey the types of cats and their idiosyncratic moods and manners, this little volume places excellent photographs of kittens, middle-aged cats and old guys in natural settings in a manner that makes the images almost audible.
   
   The difference in this book (not unlike the now unavailable FELINE FRIENDS: A CAT LOVER'S TREASURY from England) is the choices of comments, quotations, and little thoughts - short in length, long in perception - that accompany the photographs. Author Bonnie Louise Kuchler obviously understands her subjects: the words adjacent to the images have clarity and poignancy, haughtiness and wit, and in general enhance the enjoyment of the referenced cats in a way that brings to mind personal memories. This is a gentle book for gentle people and a superb way to gift someone who is thoughtful about animals (oops! CATS in particular!). Grady Harp, December 07

1. We were disappointed that the book only includes a few large cities. We will be on the road for three months and are interested in restaurants where we can bring our dog and dog parks to visit.
   Out of the whole book, there are only two cities we will be visiting. Just too limited in scope

1. I thought this book was a very enjoyable read. The history was very interesting and answered some of the questions I had always had about this incredible ride.
   
   I rode all 100 miles of this trail during a training seminar in the mid-1980s. I was hoping to read something about these training sessions, but there was no mention of them. However, it did bring all the memories of that incredible experience back to me.
   
   I would have liked it longer with a story for each winner, but you can't have everything. Worth the read.



2. It's a pity that the "a reader from Mountain View, CA" author chooses to remain anonymous while making a harebrained remark about this terrific book. Marnye Langer has spent years covering the Tevis Cup Ride and depicts the big picture very well. I say feel free to write your own version of the Tevis Cup Ride and see how close you can get to the factual bulls eye.

   To date this is the best account of the Tevis Cup Ride, the granddaddy of the entire sport of Endurance Riding, and the inspiration for Auburn, California as the Endurance Capital of the World.




3. I was excited to buy this book and was fascinated by most of the early historical perspective.

   Most endurance riders will recognize the 2003 Haggin and Tevis Cup horse, Split, is Master Motion. Red is Crystals Charm, NOT "Major Motion". "Major Motion" does not exist.

   These facts are so easy to verify just by checking the AERC records (or just ask any endurance rider), there is no reason for these errors. Just ruined the whole book for me because the veracity of the rest of the book is suspect.




4. I didn't think I would get into this but the book took me on a fabulous journey! I could not put it down. I felt like I was a part of this and wanted to win it with the people I was reading about. These riders are the ultimate survivors. You won't regret this read!

1. I chanced upon this book while browsing for a title to donate to our small-town local library in memoriam for a deceased friend who was very active in old time farming displays with draft horses. (A practice we substitute for funeral flowers) Having grown up on the edge of the Percheron epoch in this country, I bought this book for myself. Upon reading it, I found a comprehensive history of the Percheron Horse that takes up where the previous history of the Percheron Horse leaves off. It's all here, the detailed story of the rise and fall of the glistening blacks, grays and dappled draft horses of yesterday. We find that the old gray mare certainly ain't what she used to be and how that all came about. We travel in time from the massive production of the American Percheron breeding movement in this country to the near extinction of the Association and the movement of their offices from the Chicago Stockyards to a small rural farm in Indiana, where the incubus of the Association survived. Then, the influx of interest in draft horses grew and the breed proliferated to the levels of today. The names which ring famous throughout the history of the breed, not only of the horses, but of the men and women who made the breed here in America are featured along with graphic illustrtions. This book is not only packed with the history of the Percheron horse in America, but is full of pictures from the beginning to the end pages which feature detailed timelines and chronological tables defining the rise, fall, and resurgence of the breed. If you are interested in horses, read this book. It will deepen your understanding of the majesty and dedication of breeding and change forever your ideas of the "old gray mare".

1. I found this book at a local museum in northern Michigan. It is the perfect MI guide to wildlife tracks and species. The illustrations are accurate and each animal has a full description with illustration of tracks and the animal. Just beautiful! Plus it is pocket sized for bringing along hiking or camping. I gave my copy to my younger cousin to enjoy, and ordered a second one for myself from amazon! Highly recommended.



2. Includes tips on tracking, measurements and definition of terms, pictures of the tracks with excellent analysis of the tracks, fore and hind, walking and running; excellent description of the animal; also included are references to other similar species. Excellent paperback is small enought to carry around into the field. Highy recommended.
