1 comments about Cup of Comfort for Horse Lovers: Stories that celebrate the extraordinary relationship between horse and rider (Cup of Comfort).
- I ordered this book because it contained an essay authored by a very dear blog buddy. I also thought it would make an excellent gift for my horse loving spouse. I am not particularly enamored with horses so my own expectations were measured.
Today I received the book and hurriedly opened it to find my friend's contribution. I expected it to be excellent and it was. But the reward of reading that single chapter was even greater than I had hoped.
I returned to the front and began to read from the beginning and was surprised to find myself more than half way through when I finally took a break.
There are horses in this book just as there are people. But they all become individuals with personality and character and they collectively experience the entire spectrum of emotion. The wonderful writing certainly contributes. But it is the raw emotion that adds the vivid color. There is a genuineness in these stories only possible I think because they are so intensely personal and related from experience.
Kudos to Colleen Sell for a wonderful compilation.

- I enjoyed this book, it tells you how to get your horse to obay you and not to be rank. Carefully written instructions on how to do each exercise is the key to getting your horse to preform each exercise properly.

4 comments about Cat on the Couch: Memoirs of a Cat's Journey into Psychotherapy.
- This fictional book is about a cat, nicked named Callie, in session with a human therapist. Callie is there to get over her mother abandoning her and many other idiosyncrasies common to a cat, such as excessive hairball production, peeing inappropriately, etc. Although the author captured a cat's behavior well (except for the human aspects such as the Internet gambling addiction), I wish I could say that I found this book funny; but I didn't. I was hoping I'd at least laugh once at Callie's antics, but I just didn't find the story funny and I'm a cat owner for over 20 years. However, I'm glad others were able to. Remember that laughter is subjective and unfortunately my experience differs from what the other reviewers encountered.
On another note, the publishing of the book was substandard. For example, the font type printed in the book sometimes varied in size on the same page. Pages 16 and 42 (and almost every other page) provide good examples of what I'm talking about. These changes were distracting. I'm not referring to the italic font used to indicate the author's private thinking, but the apparent use of a font size 12 one paragraph and then a font size 10 in another paragraph and halfway through the sentence back to another font size 12. In addition, some incorrect wording was left in the text. For instance, "abandoned" instead of "abandonment" should have been used on Page 43; "tone down" instead of "tone done" should have been used on Page 48. There were other proofreading errors throughout the text, such as on Page 49 where one sentence picks up several blank lines down. Nevertheless, this did not cause me to lower my rating as the shoddy publishing is the publisher's responsibility. Most people probably wouldn't notice or even care, but as someone heavily into documentation, all these publishing mistakes broke my focus from the narrative a little bit. I read many books and a few errors are only normal; however, it is unusual to find a book so messy with proofreading errors.
In summary, I found the book to be just okay. The story was cute, silly, and a lighthearted read but not the comedy I was expecting and this is why I rated it a 3.
- Calico Nicole is one hot cat! Sex, drugs, gambling--it had all the elements of real life from a cat's perspective. Funny, funny book! Cathy Parker must be a cat lover from way back. She has the inside scoop on how cats must really think and feel. She was able to "humanize" Calico to the point you forget she's a cat. When you suddenly remember, it's hilarious. And those outfits were a riot. Cathy Parker is on target. Her descriptions of Calico's numerous disorders were written in easy to follow layman's terms so everyone could feel for Calico and for Cathy. Calico has real issues, issues true to so many of us. As I was reading I could relate to her problems...and I'm not a cat! Cathy must be a excellent therapist. Her insight was terrific! I can't wait for the sequel!
- If you've ever been in therapy, thought about therapy or are just a cat lover, you'll find Cat on the Couch: A Cat's Journey into Psychotherapy hilarious. Callie the cat drives her therapist crazy with her "issues" which include addictive relationships, fear of heights, infertility, and addiction to internet pornography and internet gambling. Who would ever thought a talking cat could be so much like we are. Read it. You won't be disappointed.
- Cat on the Couch is fun reading! You'll love hearing the escapades of Calico Nicole Ford, a cat with issues. Cathy brings this feisty fantasy feline to life for us in a way that creates very enjoyable and fun reading! I *highly* recommend this book for those who enjoy laughing out loud. As a licensed clinical social worker, Cathy gives us a healthy dose of laughter, realizing its importance in our lives. Her gift of humor is Cat on the Couch. Thank you so much for writing this very entertaining book!

- Thank you for your prompt service. Your communication every step of the way was greatly appreciated.
- I purchased this book thinking that I would get a great deal
of information on pugs. To my surprise, the only good thing about it was the glossy photos.
- This book had wonderful, glossy, high-quality pictures. There was so many pictures that information kind of fell second. If you are dying for some adorable pug shots, go with it. If you need some good information, this book has a good amount, but definitely try going with something else for maximum info.

5 comments about The Pleasures of Their Company: An Owner's Guide to Parrot Training.
- Everyone with a parrot really needs to know how to communicate and train their companion bird. It will benefit everyone concerned. This book is excellent and easy to follow. My amazon loves to put his rings on spindle, wave hello while saying hello on cue, puts quarters in piggy bank, high five, and more. I learned how to teach him these tricks through practicing the guidelines in this book.
- This book, the third by Bonnie Doane, is a must for the new parrot owner or for those who have had a parrot for many years. I found this book to be an excellent guide when I first got my new parrot. I made sure I researched every book I could when I first acquired my two-week old baby parrot, and this book was one of my favorites. I found it very helpful in the training & learning process of handling my parrot as it matured and got older. There are chapters on obedience skills and training techniques for adult parrots, as well as how to work with baby birds, speech training, and trick training. There are 12 chapters filled with helpful advice that you should definitely be aware of.
I highly recommend this book. You should check out her other two books, "My Parrot, My Friend" and "The Parrot in Health and Illness." These are excellent books for your bird-related library in my opinion.
- This is an excellent book on the behaviour and training not only of parrots, but also macaws, cockatoos, budgerigars and other members of the parrot family. I have a 3 year old Hyacynth Macaw called Gervaise who has benefited enormously from my purchase. He never ceases to amaze me with his intelligence and agility. He is building up an impressive vocabulary and can do tricks like ringing a bell and eating seeds from my bumcrack. The fun's not all Gervaise's - as the title suggests, their company really does provide the owner with a great deal of pleasure, and this book can really enhance that pleasure.
- This book is very well written and can easily be used as a reference guide as well. This book lacks only in one aspect (colour photos) of actual birds since I love to look at pictures almost as much as reading the information. I would recomend this book to anyone thinking of getting a bird or someone who already has one and is acting up a bit. I haven't adopted a bird as of yet but it's only days away. (I can't wait to get the Umbrella Cockatoo home). A really great site (except it is a little negative but very informative to future Parrot owners is http://members.citynet.net/skydiver/parrots/parrots.htm. Check it out . I looked online for two months to make sure that I was picking the right bird for our family and everything you need to know is right there or there's links to it.

2 comments about When Your Pet Dies: A Guide to Mourning, Remembering and Healing.
- This is a neat little book, very special. I think it would be very helpful for those facing the loss of a pet. As a veterinarian, dealing with owner grief is an important part of my practice. I'm happy to recommend this to all of my special clients who may experience the trauma associated with pet loss. Well done!

- As an animal lover myself, as a certified hospice bereavement counselor, and as another author who's written about pet loss and specialized in pet loss counseling since 1992, I loved this book. Like all the rest of Alan's books, this one is clearly stated, clinically accurate and beautifully written -- and it comes from the heart of the author's own personal experience with pet loss. Because Alan Wolfelt is so very well known and respected in the field of death education and counseling, I believe his book about pet loss will do more than help bereaved animal lovers. I think it will lift the experience of pet loss into the mainstream of professional grief literature where it rightfully belongs, and that alone is a cause for celebration. For many years I have felt that uninformed and insensitive mental health professionals can do more damage to disenfranchised bereaved animal lovers than any member of the lay public can do, because they should know better -- and it is up to those of us who know the agony of pet loss to teach them. I want to thank Alan for writing this book, and I wish him every success in its sales and distribution. For my part, I've already listed it under the BOOKS ABOUT PET LOSS category on the Articles and Books page of my own Grief Healing Web site (http://www.griefhealing.com), I've recommended it to both pet loss support organizations with whom I consult, and I will continue to recommend it to my clients and participants in my pet loss support groups as well.

1 comments about Salamanders and Newts As a New Pet.
- This book is ideal for the salamander or newt neophyte-anyone who is just starting to keep these slimy but endearing critters as pets. Written by an author with dozens of pet books to his name, and published by T.F.H. Publications, one of the world's largest publishers of pet books, this slim volume covers all major topics that the would-be salamander and newt owner needs to know. It discusses the natural history of newts and salamanders, specifics on how to house them safely, what they eat and how and where to find or buy it, hygiene and health issues, reproduction, and more. The book also includes color photographs of a variety of salamanders and newts from around the world, including all major families and species found in the United States. Some of the photographs are startling; picture a tiger salamander eating a field mouse, for example. The book also includes several pages about the axolotl, a formerly exotic species that has become one of the most popular amphibian pets. This book is a great buy for the price, and is perfectly adequate for the beginner, although it may not do for the serious salamander breeder. Pick up this inexpensive volume before you even THINK about picking up that spotted thing that's crawling around under the log.
