5 comments about The Complete Basenji (Book of the Breed).

  1. I recently bought this book expecting to find out all that wasn't accessible online, only to find that it doesn't really say much. The author owned many basenjis, and knew about as much as I did after a few minutes of google searching the basenji. Check out My Smart Puppy, its a general book but its the only thing that I can say relates to, and has helped me with my basenji, Simone.

  2. A true wealth of information on the amazing Basenji breed. The book provided a concise history of the dog and its migration to other parts of the world. My only complaint is that the pictures were not in color only b&w. Still worth the purchase price. If you are lucky enough to own a Basenji, buy the book. Thinking about owning a Basenji, buy the book and read another. Basneji's are truly unlike any other dog and deserve a person who knows, accepts and appreciates their distinct differences.

  3. This book is sure to delight everyone, from people who breed and show basenjis to the owner of the cherished pet.

A long established breed originating from Africa, the basenji is indeed a distinctive dog. Basenjis have deeply wrinkled foreheads, double curls in their tails, clean themselves like cats, run like antelopes and yodel instead of bark. They can also shed tears. Basenjis are known for their determination, loyalty to their owners and their keen hunting ability. Their cleanliness, natural beauty and gracefulness make them cherished pets indeed.

This book is a good teaching tool for folks who own basenjis, a good resource tool for folks interested in basenjis and certainly a well written wealth of information.

  4. An excellent resource on Basenjis for both the novice and the experienced owner!

  5. A must for a Basenji owner. The pictures are great, good tool to explain the African history to friends. The historical aspect is the most compelling to me, a good coffee table book unless your Basenji pulls books off the table !

5 comments about Conversations with Dog: An Uncommon Dogalog of Canine Wisdom.

  1. This book provides wonderful insight into dog behavior, how dogs think, the purpose of dogs in our lives. I loved it!

    Barbara Graham, Cloverdale, CA

  2. I read this book within a couple of days. It is very insightful and inspirational .

  3. I think this is a great book in learning how to understand how your dog thinks. Imagine sitting down and having a conversation with your special companion; what would you ask him or her? This book gives the basics on what those human questions and canine answers might be. It goes beyond that theorizing that if we learn to treat our dog friends right the lessons will expand to relationships with people.
I plan on reading it again and also visiting the website:www.AKinshipwithAnimals.com.
Short and invaluable to all dog owners.

  4. I had to put 1 star because there is no -10 stars that I could put. This book is not what I expected, I'm wondering if this is a joke book instead of something that is supposed to be taken seriously. I am sorry I spent my time and money purchasing this book.

  5. This is a sweet book! The wisdom, love, and gentle guidance of the canine species (and the special touch of author and animal communicator Kate Solisti-Mattelon) will amaze and enlighten you. I laughed, cried, and was challenged to try to deeply understand these marvelous beings who have graciously chosen to throw their lot in with the human race. The questions are from real people, and the answers are from the heart and soul of dog. And they make so much sense! In "Conversations," dog provides answers from the mundane (Does it feel good to wag your tail?), to the practical (What is the easiest way to train you?), to the metaphysical (Where do you go when you die?). Here you'll find everything you ever wondered about dogs, and more than a few things you never even thought to ask. Now I look at my own dog with renewed respect, and find that our relationship is growing more special every day. Thanks, Kate, for reminding me who he really is, and helping me appreciate the great gift of love he brings to my life. No doubt about it, anyone who's ever been owned by a dog is guaranteed to love this book.

2 comments about Schnoodle (Designer Dog).

  1. A Schnoodle is a mixed breed, or a mutt- just like any other mixed breed or mutt. To call mutts designer dogs is a little silly in my opinion, but that's how the breeders of such dogs make their money. Anyway, this book on "schnoodles" is NOT about schnoodles. It is filled with general information (care and otherwise). The only thing that might be relevant to someone interested in "schnoodles" specifically is maybe two pages on how the origin of the mutt is not known and the possibility that they come from "truffle dogs." Also in those pages is maybe a paragraph or so each about poodles and schnauzers. In my opinion, if you are interested in learning about your mixed breed dog, read the books on the breed it comes from, not the designer dog book. This book is worth no more than a dollar.

  2. The book was put together wrong. It was missing one chapter, and duplicated another. Maybe it was just the one I got.

1 comments about The German Shepherd Dog: A Comprehensive Guide to Buying, Owning, and Training (Breed Basics).

  1. This book was recommended on various web sites. The information in this book is very generic and not worth the cost. I ordered "training you german shepherd dog" by Dan Rice at the same time. This book costs less and is very informative.

3 comments about Bulldogs (KW).

  1. This book starts off great for a person first looking into buying a Bulldog, but at page 39 (of 160) the term Bulldog pretty muc disappears and it becomes a general book on how to raise a dog - any dog in any atmosphere.
In fact I don't think a specific tip on raising/caring for Bulldogs appears at all unless a short line under a photo after page 39.
    Disappointing.

  2. This is a good book full of general information. However, if you want a book specifically about Bulldogs....this isn't the one.

  3. This is a book with a lot of good pictures. I was disappointed to later see that this book is constantly advertising dog related products. There is too much information about products like 'nylabone' chewtoys and 'Four Paws' flea repellents rather than the wonderful temperament and personality of the bulldog. This book gives a lot of information about general dog care and behaviour. But the book doesn't emphasize BULLDOG CARE and BULLDOG BEHAVIOUR.

5 comments about Rabbits (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).

  1. It has some good basic info... but lacks specific in depths about rabbits.

  2. This was my first rabbit care book. It is typical of the ones you find in pet stores etc. It is relatively thin and has a lot of glossy rabbit pictures in it and good basic care information. Since getting it, I have found it to be a little vague in some areas of rabbit nutrition, mainly the need for timothy pellets, the mainstay of the rabbit diet, and the evils of calcium in a rabbit diet. Other than that, it is a good, inexpensive, colorful rabbit book that I did enjoy reading.

  3. I bought this book a couple days before getting my bunny. We have now had him for 3 days, and I am looking for a more detailed book now. It was good because it shows pictures of bunny types, is easy to read, and easy to reference.
The downside, it only has a little information on everything, it is a thin book. I want another one with tons of information, but this one is good for kids and referencing.

  4. It was an okay book, but none of the information was anything I hadn't already read on websites for free. The heading here also says it provides everything about training, but I didn't find any training advice other than getting it to stand up, stuff I don't consider training, my rabbit does those things naturally. It doesn't discuss chewing at all. I was very disappointed.

  5. If you're thinking of adopting a rabbit, this is the perfect book to get for a new pet owner, seeing as how all of the information that it contains is broken down simply, in a language that is untechnical, and easily understood by rabbit owners and lovers of all ages. RABBITS: A COMPLETE PET OWNER'S MANUAL, is filled with tons of different information that rabbit owners need in order to care for their new bunny. From info about a rabbit's origins, life cycle, temperament, to info about selecting the perfect rabbit for your family, information about feeding, purchasing a cage, health care, accessories, and more.

As someone who loves rabbits, and has owned a Holland Lop named Cinnabun for 6-years, I know first-hand that this book is a must-have. In fact, just last week, this book saved Cinnabun's life. I noticed that Cinnabun was acting strangely, and looked up his symptoms in Monika Wegler's RABBITS. I soon found out that Cinnabun was suffering from Snuffles, a deadly upper respiratory infection. The vet informed me that had one more day passed, Cinnabun would have surely died. It has now been a week, and Cinnabun is not only feeling better, but is back to his old ways, and I have this book to thank. The easy-to-understand chapter about health care is amazing. A true must-have!

1 comments about Working Dogs, Training for Sheep and Cattle (Practical Farming).

  1. This book is written with a great sense of humor and a great sense of reality. Starting with a brief discription of various cattle/sheep working breeds, Mr. Seis goes on to clearly describe how to train a working dog for sheep or cattle. He covers not only the very basics, but also includes information on dog health and housing. A must for anyone training an intelligent dog for ranch work. (the Australian vernacular is interesting also. Know what a dunny is?)

  1. Really excellent book - great layout, top quality pictures but most of all really sound information how to help a difficult dog or make the easy dog even happier. I recommend this book to every dog owner and would take my dogs only to trainers who use this method. Great work!!
