3 comments about The Power of Alpha Thinking (Signet).

  1. If you can get your hands on this book I strongly recommend it. The author goes into many different areas of mind exploration including healing yourself and others with your mind. All aspects of your life can be improved by "going within." This is a fantastic book that should be in print. This book has nothing in common whatsoever with the Celestine Prophecies which I did not care for.

  2. Power of alpha-thinking, what is that? That is why I read the book and also because it didnt seem that big. It is written in a very nice and easy language and it keeps you interrested most of the time. But it leaves something behind, a new idea and makes you think in general about your unexploited potencials. I have after I read the book done a litle bit of the practices described in the book and yes I feel differences, I really do, though not at all as dramatic as the book describes. A good read for the open minded! Regards, Arni

  3. If you liked the Celestine Prophecy, then you will enjoy this book. It dives more into the science behind altered states of awareness with such things as biofeedback, but is not written like a technical manual or text book. I had no problem keeping my interest peaked througout. I chuckled to myself when I found that the author seemed intent on making the reader aware that he always found himself next to the prettiest woman in the room on several occasions. Regardless, it was very informative and an easy read.

1 comments about Just Mutts: A Tribute to the Rogues of Dogdom (Just).

  1. This is another boonie dog book review from Wolfie and Kansas. "Just Mutts: A Tribute to the Rogues of Dogdom" by Steve Smith and Gene Hill remedies a serious gap in the genre of coffee table dog books. As Mark Derr noted in "Dog's Best Friend", we mutts and boonie dogs are far superior to cognitively impaired, hip-displaced show dogs. At last some noncanine animals of primate derivation have produced a coffee table book featuring us rather than some AKC-recognized breed.

There are many highlights in "Just Mutts". We liked the picture on the left side of page 48, which looks like Kansas, and the narrative description of a trip to the vet, which reminded us of Wolfie's last trip to the chamber or horrors and needles. Our only complaint is that, despite the subtitle, "Just Mutts" seems to feature trainable pets, rather than true rogues and boonie dogs.

5 comments about Irish Terrier: A Complete and Reliable Handbook (Complete Handbook).

  1. Good pictures....Ill give them credit for that, but they didnt give too much information on the actual breed, rather dogs in general. Like the grooming chapter, it recomends you CUT the dogs fur?? it hardly brings up stripping....or how to groom for the show ring. The give us all the obvious stuff about bringing home a new puppy, and all the diseases a dog could possibly get.....not just the IT!! anywho......yeah...thats all!!

  2. "Irish Terrier" was very easy reading. I finished the book in about three and a half hours. I was considering bringing an Irish Terrier puppy into my home as a birthday present for my daughter. After reading this book it is no longer a consideration, but a future certainty. The book was extremely informative for potential owners, and offers enough detail to make the decision as to whether or not this is the dog for you. The author gives the reader a history of the breed, characteristics of the breed, training tips, grooming, and an important section on the health care of the dog. As a person who has always had dogs, but has never owned a purebred dog I found the book offered a lot of information about the way to prepare your home, and your family for the caring of a purebred. I found the text interesting, informative, and easy to follow and comprehend. I have already started contacting reccommended reputable breeders, and am anxious to finally bring home the new member of our family. "Irish Terrier" will serve as a useful guide to me and my family for the care, training, and overall well being of our Irish Terrier. I highly reccommend it to potential new owners.

  3. the text is a pretty generic "dogs for dummies" type of book. Having recently bought my first Irish Terrier -- not to mention my first terrier -- I would have liked more specifics about the breed itself, how to groom it, how its personality impacts training, etc. Instead we get gorgeous pictures, together with the breed standard (which is free on the internet), and generic grooming tips, then several chapters on how to introduce [any] puppy to a new home, how to socialize, how to feed, what types of common ailments to look out for. Unfortunate to waste a captive audience, since there is so little available real-time information about the breed.

  4. This is an excellent book for anyone who is a new IT owner or contemplating ownership. I gave it to my 13 year-old daughter for Christmas. It's perfect for her and Mom & Dad too! The book offers detailed information on care, grooming, feeding, training, etc. Everything you wanted to know and things you didn't even think of. A must have for IT lovers!

  5. The author of this book is Muriel P. Lee, not G.& D. Kid

5 comments about The Ugly Pugling: Wilson the Pug in Love.

  1. Perfect gift not only for Pug lover but for all dog lovers. This is a sweet tale of pure love...the kind only dogs know and give and the kind we only aspire to share. There is a message in this simple story to implore the heart to cherish innocence and see the world through "dog eyes."

  2. This book tells a poignant story about unrequited love that is appropriate for both adults and kids alike. I gave this book to several children as a holiday gift and their moms all concur that the kids just adore it and want to have it read to them over and over.
The humor is infectious and the photography superb, as always. We'll be keeping our eyes out for the next adventure!
P.S. Wilson the Pug is the only author my pugs will read....

  3. This reviewer recently adopted a Basset-mix puppy (that's him on my profile page) from a shelter/rescue (and encourages all of you reading this to consider giving a rescue/shelter dog a home, too!) It appears that my puppy is a Basset/Coonhound mix. Which brought to mind the question - how, logistically, could a Basset and Coonhound mix? You will be pleased to know that this fun photo story does NOT answer that question.

Once upon a time, Wilson the Pug, descendant of Pug-tzu, "author" and star of The Tao of Pug, fell in love with Hedy, who was "unlike the other pugs I'd met before. With her big floppy ears, prominent muzzle and huge paws, she was a vision of lovliness." Time passed. And Wilson saw his love no more. He went to her house. And " "a huge dog, the biggest I'd ever seen!" appears at the door. Oh My! A Mastiff! But gazing into her big brown eyes, "I got a whiff of her sweetly biscuited breath." It's Hedy stuff! She isn't a homely pug - but a marvelous mastiff!

Our hero and heroine may be parted by humans - unless the dogs come up with a Taoist plan! The words and photos along the way will charm children and dogs of all ages.

My original quandry remains unanswered after the Afterward by Wilson: "Fortunately, I was a neutered pug, because Hedy and I felt strongly that the world did not need a new breed of mastug or pugstiff."

  4. Nancy Levine never ceases to amaze me with her awesome photographs of the pugs (and a new "guest" dog) and her great stories. This book is perfect for any pug or other dog lover, adult and child alike. It is rare that books come out to satisfy both the adult and the child and this is one of those exceptional books.

I highly recommend this book and the other books in the "Wilson the Pug" series.

  5. Wilson and Nancy write wonderful books. Lots of love and time go into each one that they have written. My Little Luci Lu says Puggy paws up for The Ugly Pugling and the other books, too! **Smiles** We are looking forward to reading your next book and thank you for keeping Puggy smiles on our faces.

5 comments about Dogsmart.

  1. I found this book to be very informative and stimulating. For someone who is looking for some professional to give them a cut and dry answer to their prospective dog relationship questions this is not the right book. For someone who is interested in the mechanics and development of a highly unique (and ultimately rewarding) interpersonal relationship with a member of another species then this is the book you want. Just like people, cultures, and snowflakes, dogs are just as special and unique as individuals and breeds. This book is designed as more of a workbook or troubleshooting guide with a dash of dry humor and executed with the author's adroit writing style. If you are interested in all the different breeds get The Atlas of Dog Breeds of the World. If you are interested in developing a health well informed relationship with your specific dog (and learn a few things about yourself along the way) get this book.

  2. I am currently looking for my next dog and came across this book at the library. The idea sounded promising but I was very disappointed. There are too many checklists and questions without real guidance (a questionnaire at the end of each chapter would have been better) and they are alternating with more examples than I care to know of how the sample humans deal with their dog situation. I started skipping from chapter to chapter, hoping to find some real revelations somewhere especially since each chapter sounded promising but in the end I was utterly confused and certainly did not gain any new insights. I give the book two stars for the idea that is behind its contents, but the execution is poor.

  3. I read it all night! This book explains with real-life cases. I recommend it to anyone with a love for dogs.

  4. As a professional dog trainer, DogSmart, by Myrna Milani, is a book I recommend to all my students. Hopefully people will read it before buying a dog, but better late than never. This book is full of great recommendations on what to ask yourself before you commit to a lifetime relationship with your canine partner.

  5. This is one of the best books I've ever read! Easy to understand, but she doesn't treat the reader like an idiot, either. Definitely not one of those 'you do it this way, and any other way is wrong' books. Also very interesting reading, and not so dry you put it down after three paragraphs.

  1. This is a fun book to read, but I like it best for skimming. On any given page one opens to, there's an enjoyable (albeit useless for all but small talk) little tidbit about an animal. Facts are wide ranging, covering animals from cats to snakes to fish.

    A good bathroom book.
