1 comments about The Siberian Husky: An Owner's Guide toa Happy Healthy Pet.

  1. I read this book in two days. It was very informative but alot of the book was general. General in the way that a lot of information shared was about dogs in general and were not very specific to the Siberian Husky. Was a very short book also. Would be a better book to check out at the library than to spend your money.

3 comments about Scottish Fold Cats: Everything About Acquisition, Care, Nutrition, Behavior, Health Care, and Breeding (A Complete Pet Owner's Manual).

  1. I was given this book when I was given my cat, Mara Jade. The book was for 2 main reasons. One was to explain and understand this most loveable breed. The other was to show off my cat's grandfather, who is one of the champion Scottish Folds showcased in the book. It is a good book for new owners.

  2. I recently bought a Scottish Fold. (Partly because they look so darn cute and partly -- okay mostly -- because of Peter Gether's Norton books.) Being the "completist" that I am (some prefer the term obsessive), I had to buy this book too to make sure all was well with Bradbury (yeah, he's named after the famous author).

Unfortunately, Maggitti's book doesn't really satisfy my passion and curiosity for this fascinating breed of feline.

For one thing, the book seems slightly outdated. And the pages look -- and often read -- like those of a textbook. Plus, the information seems superficial, almost too basic (even for a feline newbie like myself).

In other words, don't expect a lot of passion and humor and a breezy, conversational style. Expect some fairly good information. Expect a slightly detached (read: dry) presentation of facts. Expect a reference book that'll likely sit on your shelf gathering dust once you've flipped through it once.

Since there are very few books available strictly about the Scottish Fold breed, you're pretty much stuck with this book or nothing. And, given that choice, I'd say go ahead and buy this book. It's really not as bad as I'm making it out to be. (But it's not a whole lot better, either.)

The bottom line: Until someone comes along to write an "owner's manual" book as fun as the Scottish Fold breed of cat, I suggest you turn to Peter Gether's three books: The Cat Who Went To Paris...A Cat Abroad: The Further Adventures of The Cat Who Went to Paris and His Human...and The Cat Who'll Live Forever: The Final Adventures of Norton, The Perfect Cat and His Imperfect Human.

  3. As new owners of this unique breed, we needed a book that explained everything from care to communication and personality. This book has it all. Especially helpful was the section on communication where we learned not only how to communicate with our new Fold, but also what our Fold was telling us through his body language. This book definitely helped us welcome our pet into his new home, and facilitated bonding between pet and owner.

2 comments about The Horse Nutrition Bible: The Comprehensive Guide to the Feeding of Your Horse.

  1. This is not a bad book, and if you have never really thought about what to feed your horse(s) it's a reasonable place to start, but I do have some issues w/ this book: 1.) while it does distinguish between different types of feed (i.e. hay, straight hard feed, etc.) it doesn't help you determine a feeding program beyond basic common sense (don't feed 'hot' horses lots of grain, offer lots of good pasture or hay, always have water available), and 2.) it does not tell you how to evaluate premade grain mixes, supplements, etc. to determine quality other than "buy from a reputable source".

As I said it's a great book if you're just getting into equine nutrition, and there are some truly helpful parts of the book like a chart explaining what is considered "light", "moderate", and "heavy" work for horses, which is great because when you're looking at a feed bag trying to figure out what they mean by those terms it can be confusing! it was also refreshing to see that someone that understands the evolution of equines and what that means for their feeding and digestion, and that it makes clear that every horse is an individual and should be fed as such, though it would have been nice to have a few types of feed or supplements recommended as good for general health, or for certain age groups (i.e. aged). also it was great to see a book that treated pony nutrition as separate from the full sized equine.

  2. The Horse Nutrition Bible is a comprehensive guide to horse nutrition and explores all the options involved in assessing a horse's nutritional needs and feeding it right, from chapters discussing introductory principles of feeding to the foundations of a horse's diet and the basic principles of feeding tactics and methods. Horse owners will want to keep The Horse Nutrition Bible on their reference shelf!

1 comments about Building Show Jumps.

  1. I can't say anything bad about this book. I bought several to build some jumps for my wife, anything to keep her happy. This book is very detailed if you are a detailed person. I have to admit that I bought "Jumps, etc." by Lisa Campbell and pretty much use that book the most check it out before you buy this one. Again I can't say anything bad about this book, it is very good, maybe too detailed for us simple guys.....

2 comments about 22 Arcani Gatti II (Feline Deck).

  1. Yes, the deck is numbered. The drawing itself is great and that's the reason why cat/ Tarot lovers like me would pay 20 dollars. But I was disappointed from the very first touch!! The card paper is very rough and it will not stand much touching or shuffling. Most drawing are not centred, some printing are not clear and the cards are not cut to the same size!!! I think they have wasted the great drawing and trying to make too much money out of it.

  2. The cards are tiny and beautiful. They are limited edition and numbered. I do not use these cards for readings, they are strictly a collectors item.

3 comments about Book of Whales.

  1. As far as the content of the book goes, it unfortunately is not appropriate for small children and there are limited pictures of whales. As a matter of fact there are no photographs of whales at all, only drawings. I was not aware of this at the time of purchase. I am sure the content will be more interesting when said child grows old enough to enjoy the numerous pages of information about various whales, I only hope he is still interested in them. The drawings are beautiful and descriptive though.

  2. I first recieved this book for X-mas in the early 80's. I was 10 and in love with whales (I still am). Great book with many details of all the species. The paintings/illustrations are very good, although may be out of date in portraying the true profile of whales.
I've the 1st edition hardback (1982) and since that time the knowledge has greatly grown about whales. However; Ellis goes into great detail with the historic (whaling era)/ scietific literature of the day.
For what it's worth - this is a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest in whales. There is also the Book of Dolphins and Porpoises which is equally as fine as the Book of Whales.

  3. Ellis' book on sharks is probably better known than this book on whales, but both are great. The cornerstone of the book are his numerous paintings of a variety of whales.

Ellis also puts forth a good effort in describing what is know about this group of marine mammals. He addresses aspects of the biology, ecology, and behavior of whales.

Though lacking references to the professional scientific literature, Ellis does a good job in introducing this group to the non-technical crowd. If you or a child of yours is interested in whales, this is a great book to have around.

A highly recommended introduction to the whales.
