5 comments about Southern Dogs and Their People.
- This book is THE most popular I've ever given as a gift. Everyone likes it, people of all ages. Even cat people like it! Everybody has had a favorite dog and this book reminds them of happy times. The price is right, and this little book is welcome for all occasions. Gerry Morgan
- Excellent book!! This is high praise considering I am a cat person. The photographs and the verses are wonderful and fit well together. If you don't at least like this book, you do not have a warm spot in your entire body.
- I love this book, and have given it to several people as a gift. Everyone has enjoyed it and always has their own stories to tell about their favorite dogs. Now if Priscilla and Bobbie would only write a book about favorite cats....!
- This is an itty bitty book about a big subject, Southerners and their dogs. It's different from a lot of the other dog books out now, in that it's every bit as much about dog-lovers as dogs. The pictures are great. In one, a little Chihuahua peeks out of a macho guy's shirt front. You can't not love them both. There is humor and dignity and love in these photos. I salute the authors. In addition it's a compliment to the American South, for there are folks of all ages, colors, and economic strata co-existing between this book's covers. A great little book.
- The photography in this book is truly outstanding in capturing the "spirit of the south". The quotations of southern authors merely underscore the feelings evoked by the poignant photos. This book is perfect for canine lovers in every region of the U.S; but especially for those of us whose family members include the 4 legged ones.

4 comments about The Everything Tropical Fish Book.
- Mom drops son off at 6:00pm for a long weekend with a leaking bag of live tropical fish. I have a dog, but he knows where I keep his food and brings me the bowl when it is empty. I wasn't sure these fish would be as resourceful as the dog. However, I shared my son's excitement and reminded him to thank his mom as he kissed her good-bye. I saw from the smirk in her little smile, she thought she handed me a pack of trouble. Actually it worked out well. My boy and I took his fish to the pet store and the clerk helped us pick out an aquarium and the supplies we would need. The store was closing and she offered to help us set things up. Jennifer followed us home and we were in business in about an hour. We went out for pizza and ended the evening at 10:00pm. My son calls almost every day to check on his fish and Jennifer calls about twice a week. Jennifer and The Everything Tropical Fish Book, have made caring and sharing our tropical fish a wonderful experience for my son and I. I highly recommend this book. Thanks Mom.
- I picked this book up when I was serious into Chiclids. It's a typical "dummies" book format with a lot of information crammed into one book. I recommend it if you are first looking to get started in aquariums.
- Many books on this topic are as confusing as the vast range of fish supplies in the pet stores. As a first-time betta owner, I thought my fish was just aging till a slightly more knowledgeable friend told me that "gray" means "illness," and not "old age." The chapter on fish health was very helpful and now it looks like we may get the full life-span out of him. Information in this excellent book is easy to find, well-organized, straightforward, and is just enough to bring you to a level of competency without information-overload. If you're just starting out with an aquarium or trying to decide if you want one, this book is all you need! Save the more intensive books for when you're sure this is a hobby you really want to invest in for the long term.
- This book was well organized and provided lots of information on the Goldfish, Koi, freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
This is a good book for beginners and experts alike. I have read it cover to cover and will refer back to if often as I become more interested in my new hobby. A bit lite on acutal fish information, but an excellent source on all basic information about setting up different types of aquariums

5 comments about The Newfoundland (The Pure Breds Series).
- excellent, well written, packed full of info. Bought a few Newf-related books, and this is one of my favorites so far. I'd recommend.
- This book is not only a history but an encyclopedia of knowledge. Not only is this book for the prospective newf buyer but also for the owner/breeder who wants as much knowledge as they can learn about their breed. Great, great resource!!
- This has to be one of the best breed-specific books ever written.
- I purchased this book recently since I was getting a newfie pup for the first time. I have a golden too but I wanted specific information about the breed. I found it to be very informative, easy to read and understand. It has photos (which I like) that are of nice quality. It is a must for those who want to know more about this breed or want to have a good reference on hand.
- I have read, almost cover-to-cover Emmy Brunos book and it is, by far the most comprehensive book about ANY breed I have ever had the pleasure to read. She has lived with and bred these wonderful animals most of her life and shares most of her knowledge with us, the reader. I could care less about the pictures being black and white, get a good calendar if thats what you want, its the information that is so critical that she gives, and her love of the breed which oozes from every page. Her knowledge is vast and she holds nothing back. I have gone back to that book time and time again for many many answers that I have had. I recommend this book highly and a good calendar for pics if neccessary.

4 comments about Vaccine Guide for Dogs and Cats: What Every Pet Lover Should Know.
- This book opened my eyes big time! I recomend it for anyone who owns pets or has kids. It can be a bit technical at times - I had to read some sections twice to really get it, but well worth the effort. I strongly recomend you read this and follow or start with "The nature of animal healing."
This book will also get you to questions vaccines used in humans...autism for your young daughter anyone??
Read it but don't let the quest for knowledge on this subject stop at this book!
- Every animal lover should read this in order to truly make the best decisions for your animal.
- It is about time someone brings to light the dangers of over- vaccination! This book explores the many dangerous side effects of vaccination, the obscurity of diseases such as Coronavirus, the inadequacies in vaccines such as Leptospirosis, and the lack of science behind annual rabies mandates. The text given is thourough, and thought provoking! Many vaccines are mandated based on fear, and not science. It is refreshing to see an author admit the inadequacies of vaccinations and the laws surrounding them. Vaccines can become dangerous, and cannot be considered harmless, as demostrated in this book.
This book provides a solid outline of data that rubs against the grain! A great mind-opener! It is great for those questioning current vaccination standards, yet will easily rub wrong with those who strongly advoate vaccine usage. The main down-fall to the book is that it focuses on the negative, and gives little alternative beyond not vaccinating. I would use this book as a resource for the negatives of vaccination, yet would do further research to determine if or how you will choose to vaccinate. The book would serve well coupled with Don Hamiltons book Homeopathy for Cats and Dogs: Small doses for small animals, which also gives some interesting insight into vaccinations, and more alternative on how to administer them, if at all.
- This book is not a guide as it doesn't guide you to answer the obvious question "if you don't vaccinate, what DO you do??" It discusses all the bad things vaccines do, but gives no solution for protecting your dog against the deadly Distemoer, Parvo and Rabies. Ridiculous.

1 comments about Siamese Cats.
- I got this book after my Siamese cat had died and before I could find a new one. It took me 6 months to find one, and in the meantime, I spent lots of time looking at this book. It has good information and lots of wonderful color photos of all the different colors. I still look at it frequently and refer to it for general information.

5 comments about Well-Shod: A Horseshoeing Guide for Owners and Farriers.
- Overall this is a good book but it not quite the step by step guide I was looking for regarding trimming of hooves. It is the best of two so far compared to Krolick's book which didn't help at all. Has a fair number of black & white pictures and explains the basics. B & W pictures are hard to compare to a live hoof. I've been around horses for years and worked with farriers. I want to do my own trimming. If I ever needed any shoeing, I would hire that done anyway. This book really reinforces what I know and helps to tell me partially but not completely when you can go too far on trimming such as how much hoof wall, sole, and frog can you safely cut before you have cut too much. It only has one chapter on trimming. I may get this other pictorial guide book I saw listed. I'm not sure anyone would want to take any book and try to start shoeing without some instruction by someone that knows. If I did ever want to do some shoeing on a horse that doesn't have problems, this book probably has enough information from me to do it though. Same for trimming. I may try a conservative trim this weekend.
- I had some knowledge on how to trim my horses feet. The book gave me more detail and insights I wasn't aware of. I would recommend this book to anyone.
- The best book I've seen on the subject. It is informative, easy to understand (for the layman) and without pretensions.
Expert advice from an expert practioner.
- Recently I watched as a local farrier plied his trade with four horses belonging to a friend. Originally I had gone intending to help steady the horses but, as I watched, I became more and more intrigued with the processes that were unfolding before my eyes. Suddenly I found myself wishing that I had paid better attention.
The following day I began my search for a book that would review for me the things that I had witnessed the previous day. My first reaction was discouragement as I, at first, found very little available and then found some excellent books but priced so high that I would have had to hock the farm to buy them. Even my local library fell short.
At last I ran onto this book. WELL-SHOD provides everything I was looking for. There are no lengthy and complicated explorations of unnecessary horse anatomy or boring historical treatises on the evolution of the horseshoe or the process of fitting sets of shoes to horses. Instead you will find excellent explanations of the process including removing old, worn shoes, preparing and trimming hooves and finishing up. The book also provides an excellent look at the necessary tools and how to use them, along with photographic and graphic illustrations that clarify the process.
Don't get me wrong. If I were interested in becoming a veterinarian or in working in or teaching comprehensive levels of hot and cold farrier work I would likely invest in the text-like books that I encountered and shell out the exorbitant dollars required for their purchase. But, having a goal to become proficient in taking care of a horse's hooves--from getting rid of old shoes and applying new ones--I think I'll stick with this one and be happy that I did.
THE HORSEMAN
- This was an outstanding book! Mr. Baskins relies on his MANY years of experience to guide you on properly caring for your horse's hooves and how to ensure that your farrier is properly shodding your horse. I was completely ignorant of what was required to properly shod a horse....that is, until I picked up this wonderful book. I would recommend it as a foundation book for any good horse "person's" library. Even an experienced farrier could pick up vital techniques to assist him/her in shodding the most difficult horse, WITHOUT threatening, bullying or harming this beautiful creature!
