2 comments about Black Russian Terrier: Special Rare-Breed Edition : A Comprehensive Owner's Guide (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).
- we just adopted a brt and this book has been so helpful. we have other puppy books, but this one really is specific to the breed.
- This book is pretty thorough. It not only explains the origin of the Black Russian Terrier breed, but it also addresses the temperament and character of the breed. This publication is much more than a "how to care for your new puppy" book, although it is basic enough for new owners. The book not only describes the benefits of owning a BRT, but also responsibly stresses why this strong-willed breed of dog is not for everyone, and tells why that is so. The author seems to have touched on every subject concerning the BRT, from coat care and nutrition to housebreaking, socialization and bloat. I didn't care for their unrealistic advice to visit the mom and pop of a litter, because this is still such a rare breed that Americans are still importing these scarce dogs from Russia. However, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of being, or already is, owned by a Black Russian Terrier.

5 comments about Catch Your Dog Doing Something Right: How to Train Any Dog in Five Minutes a Day.
- We rely on the expertise of others who take their work as seriously as we take our own, because we cannot be experts at everything. Krista Cantrell is the expert I (as an educator) recognize: Learning Styles evaluation for dogs-well, duh, of course! Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for individual dogs-How lucky could your dog get to have this quality educational attention, learning diagnosis, and training consultation! How lucky you and I are to have found such an organized master trainer who is so able to communicate practical exercises, so that our dogs are safe in our often unsafe human world. So that we don't worry so about them. So our dogs become family members who are better loved and welcomed than we imagined possible. It's all in her book. Catch Your Dog Doing Something Right is THE book to read.
Review by Sheron Steele, VA
- The techniques really work and are simple to implement. Krista even explains how to evaluate your dog to help you understand how your dog learns. Her writing is easy to understand, and she uses real life stories.
The training is broken down into five-minute lessons and even shorter ten-second sessions that reinforce the behavior. Each lesson is step-by-step reinforcing basic commands such as sit, down, stay, etc. but played like a game. My dog loves our "training" time since she just thinks she's playing.
Krista includes help sections throughout the book to help you get the dog's attention. She also provides techniques to change a dog's unwanted behavior such as excessive barking.
I really recommend this book for the fun-loving, busy person who wants a well-behaved dog for a companion.
- I love this book.
It is easy to read and understand. It starts with evaluation of the dog and assesing the strenght and weakness of his/her learning abilities. Training...or better called teaching-is set of games, what dogs love. I really appreciate the teaching strategy of looking at owner and paying attention- without jerking collar or using prong collars! That's an absolut must in training. There is also part about bad habits. And some Earth energy massage for your dog, if you are into "chi".
- Krista's technique takes a common sense approach and a gentle way for our animals to learn "acceptable" behavior. I have brought 3 of my dogs to her classes - based on this book - and have seen dramatic differences in their behavior. Mostly though, this book helps the human companion learn how to work with and listen to their animals. I hope more people take on this progressive approach to non-violent training. The energetic healing chapter adds a new dimension to behavior therapies.
- Excellent book! I bought it directly from Krista in AZ, she really knows what our animals are thinking! This will help the novice and those just touching up on dog communication skills. The breathing, centering ideas are similair to TTouch principles and REALLY work!

5 comments about Trout, Trout, Trout!: A Fish Chant.
- My whole family loves this book. We catch ourselves saying the chant all the time!
- My 5 year old son loves everything about this book, the pictures, the rhyme, the information about the fish at the end. It's very unique and educational, and fun at the same time.
- We are a nature center that teaches fishing classes. This is a fantastic book. Even though the fish are fun and cartoonish; they have very good features!
- I grew up on a lake and love fish- so the BEAUTIFUL illustrations, and cute chant is wonderful. It's creative and fun. I have spent a lot of time reading it to my nephew!I think even if you don't like fish it's still a cute, cute book. Even as an adult I still adore great kids books, and beautiful artwork!
- The illustrations are humerous and entertaining! Any fish lover would appreciate this book. My 15-month old daughter even likes it (her dad reads it to her more like a cheer and she thinks that's GREAT!!!) Grandpa will be getting a copy for Father's Day. The variety of fish in here is unlike any other book I've seen (besides my fish identification book from college). If you do not know what all the fish are, there is a section in the back with an informative write-up on each of the fish in the book. I wish that Trip Park would come out with cards and stationary...or another book, maybe a child story book on fish life cycles or natural salmon runs? (I'm hoping he'll read this! Fish people are left hungry for more!!!) It's AWESOME.

5 comments about Basset Hound: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- After much debate and the reading of this book I was convinced that the Basset Hound was exactly the dog I needed. I recommend this book to anyone interested (or just merely curious) in learning more about Bassets. I will say, however, that no book can prepare you for the both the joy and (if I may be honest) frustration that a Basset can bring to you and your family! I wouldn't change Chloe (my Basset Hound) for the world!
- I thought that this book was very useful. I have had many breeds during my lifetime, but had never had the joy of sharing it with a Basset Hound. This book provided me with alot of information about the breed, so much that I had to read it twice. It also prepares you for most events that you will experience from the time he is a puppy (including all the bad times). It is a must for any Basset Hound lover.
- I thought this book was great because it was very informative and wasn't dry in thee way the information was presented.
- I was looking for a book to give me ideas about raising a basset hound, a very idiosyncratic dog. This book instead gives a brief history of the breed and then devotes the rest of the book to general advice about raising dogs of any breed. I already had a general book and found the repetition of ideas unhelpful. Also, the title and presetation are misleading since they make it look like the book is all about bassets. I am still looking for a book to help me specifically with training my basset.
- Barbara Wicklund's Book on The Basset Hound : An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet (Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet Series), is an excellent beginners guide to Basset Hound ownership and general dog care. The text is very informative and even provides the reader with information on dog training, pet therapy and more. The pictures are wonderful and old and young alike can learn from what is presented throughout. I highly recommend it for new basset hound owners and especially children who want to take more of a responsibility with the family pet.

3 comments about Yorkshire Terrier (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).
- I also have the "Silky" in this series, which I thought gave me more information. But maybe it merely seemed that way because it was read first. I would have liked to have had more info on health. Nevertheless, worth the price I gave.
- WAS OK. NOT AS COMPREHENSIVE AS OTHER KENNEL CLUB BREED SERIES. DOESN'T COVER SPECIFICS IF YOU ADOPT AN OLDER DOG ETC.
- More info on the health problems and showing...Ok info on the daily care and inprotant info on training and puppy

1 comments about The Proper Care of Finches (Proper Care Of...).
-
I found the number of topics covered too numerous and brief to be of any real value. Perhaps one exception is the chapter on Accomodations which introduces several good basic aviary designs. Although for the Finch Fancier there are enough excellent photos of various species to make this little book worthwhile to have on the shelf.

2 comments about Alaskan Malamutes.
- I felt cheated when I got this book.
It is not a book about Malamutes, contrary to the title. It is a book about general dog care, and not a very good one at that. Except for the pictures and a brief description about the breed, it could as well as be about any other breed, as the emphase seems to be on home and show dogs, and definitely not on Arctic dogs The same publisher has published essentially the same book with a different title ('Siberian Huskies') and a different author name. Anyone with a serious interest in Alaskan Malamutes should find this book useless.
- I lOVE this book!!!! I got it for Christmas and WOW!!!! This book has BEAUTIFUL PICS!!!! I love it SO much I REALLY recommend this picture and information full book!!!!!
