  1. This is a really lovely book. Dr. Ackerman mostly telling about the medical problems of the Shar-Pei. Holds a lot of information about the breed and beautifull color picture. A real cute book.

2 comments about meowWOW!: Curiously Compelling Facts, True Tales, and Trivia Even Your Cat Wont Know.

  1. I gave one of these as a gift to a sick friend and she was so thrilled. She said she will always keep looking at it 'cuz there were so many things she didn't know about cats. Also, she said it was great that it had an index so she could go back to things she had read easily.

  2. I'm halfway through this book and I've put it down. I was so bored I couldn't read anymore. So far, the book is just chatting about cats with no useful information or interesting stories. I have apparently chosen the wrong book. Even though this book touts "curiously compelling facts" I haven't found any in the first half of it.

  1. Lots of good information in this book. Great for beginners getting into herps. Chameleons are very interesting, but can be difficult to keep.

5 comments about The Faraway Horses.

  1. Pretty good story, too bad I found out from this book that Buck was the horse technical advisor on the the movie The Horse Whisperer. That movie was another awful Hollywood misrepresentation and misleading work on horses and horse training. It's a shame that a real horseman like Buck could be a part of such garbage. Maybe someday Hollywood and a real horseman will get together to make a movie that shows the real nature of horses and horsemanship.

  2. One of the most insiring books about Natural Horsemanship and any instructor that I have ever read. I wish I had read it before I took a clinic with Buck. I most certainly will continue to Study with him when ever possible and with the instructors he has taught. Ricky Quinn & Paul Dietz
Thank you Buck for all that you are and all that you do for us and our Horses we love and revere so very much.

  3. This book arrived in less than 1 week, in new condition. I am very happy with the service as advertised. I was given a copy of this book and have passed it along to several friends, who in turn, have passed it along until it was worn out. Quite a story and man.

  4. Buck invites us on a journey of his life that is less than perfect and yet terribly intriguing. His honesty is refreshing and his story is not tainted by the misgivings of others. This book demonstrates his desire to overcome a difficult childhood, his love of horses, and his compassion for all. He is certainly not a "Hollywood cowboy," though his skills have brought him into unintended notoriety. Inspiring for all horse lovers.

  5. The faraway Horses is what the author's young daughter refered to when she spoke of her father's job that took him away so often. As a horselover, trainer, teacher etc.. the term rang true to how faraway we can get, horse and equine alike, from where we want and need to be. Buck Brannaman's stories are introspective and beautifully told. A powerful book moving and beautiful.

1 comments about Good Dog Journal: A Record Keeper of Your Pet.

  1. "Good Dog" is a journal for your dog. The pages are mostly lined and feature different sections for you to record various information about your dog. Most of the sections are silly, though - for example, why would I want to record every single visit to the vet in such a cute (and expensive) album? Other useless entries include a medication checklist, an address book, and shopping lists. I'm sorry, but I scribble my shopping lists on scrap paper - I don't pay for an album to record them in!

The journal itself is just adorable, with cute sketches, backgrounds, and colors. There's a ribbon affixed to the back cover that you can use to keep the album closed. There are also a few "frames" for small photos. The album's very small in size, about as large as a small paperback book (although it is hardcover). The pages are spiral bound.

The feline version of "Good Dog Journal" is "Pretty Kitty Journal", also by Victoria Roberts and H. D. R. Campbell. The format is identical, although "Pretty Kitty" isn't quite as charming as "Good Dog". Unfortunately, the appealing visual designs are wasted on two useless books.

Bottom line: there are better animal journals out there, so don't waste your money!

2 comments about Horse Housekeeping: Everything You Need to Know to Keep a Horse at Home.

  1. The authors suggest that this book contains practical knowledge for the person thinking of keeping a horse. I found very little of their prattling useful. The authors have several full and part time employees and apparently, a limitless bank account to spend on their hobby. Along with the many ridiculous suggestions that would make you think that keeping a horse is rocket science, the reader will note a large degree of arrogance. This is mostly directed towards the "help".

  2. Understand what you're getting into by owning a horse before it ever hits your pasture with Horse Housekeeping: Everything You Need To Know To Keep A Horse At Home. From setting up the barn and checking fencing to understanding feeding requirements, common health issues, and even how weather affects the horse, the authors provide a thorough, basic coverage for newcomers to the horse world. Adding interest to the practical information are stories about horses which offer case histories and often funny reflections.

1 comments about Discovering Natural Horsemanship: A Beginner's Odyssey.

  1. Natural Horsemanship has apparently been around for quite a few years now. Being new to the world of horses I just learned about this type of training a few short months ago. Mr. Moates gives a wonderfully insightful, and often amusing, introduction to the natural training method. Since I am new to horses this book was perfect for me. Anyone with a love of horses will enjoy this book. And it may inspire you, no matter what your age, to get involved with horses. This book never gets bogged down or tedious. It is fun!

5 comments about Dogs on the Couch: Behavior Therapy for Training and Caring for Your Dog.

  1. This is a wonderful book for those who want a happy, well-behaved dog with happy owners. I highly recommend it to any one with a puppy or a dog-related problem.

  2. This book offers many tips for training your dogs. The authors do not believe that you need to cause your dog pain to teach him to behave; in fact, cruel training methods can cause as many problems as they solve. The tips on introducing a new dog to your current pet are invaluable.

  3. This is a wonderful book which has already helped work wonders in the life of my 12 year old spaniel Barry. Don't look for quick fixes - Barry is still in denial about his drinking problem (he slops his ears in the water bowl and drinks from the toilet) but is working through other issues, some of which stem from puppyhood (here I must take the blame - I used to dress him up in a little Elizabethan doublet, hose and ruff for crying out loud). But thanks to this well-written and compassionate book I think the little guy might just pull through.

  4. I have read DOGS ON THE COUCH and am amazed at how dogs copy humanistic traits. Dogs show and give love without condition. Dr. Lachman, a man who has studied, experienced, and found a psychological approach to human concerns through cancer clinics and helping out people who need therapy in getting through tough times, has expertly crossed over, and crossed back, to families who need emotional support from others and in understanding animal behavior, giving love and finding out how wonderful it is to be loved through people and of course,, your family pet. I look foward to more books by Dr. Lachman regarding family animals and how we humans can learn from them and ultimately learn from ourselves

  5. This book is an excellent treatise on the subject matter. The title clearly summarizes the book. "Dogs on Couch" signifies the treatment of dogs as part of the family by sharing a seat on the couch a well as a parallel to a human psychological session "on the couch". The book shows many techniques for handling routine training of the new puppy as well as the adult dog. Lachman also superbly handles many problem issues. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness certain of these techniques demonstrated by Larry Lachman. I also found the bereavement section quite informative since I amost lost my dog last year to coronary heart disease.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a dog, anyone who is contemplating getting a dog as well as anyone who would like to better understand other people's dogs.
