1 comments about The Boxer (Terra Nova Series).

  1. This book is excellent as it is not the typical generic product that you sometimes see. This book is filled with useful information, positive reinforcement training and wonderful tips.
As a part of the American Boxer Rescue Association as well as the IAABC and APDT, I will gladly be recommending this book to clients who own boxers.

5 comments about Complete Encyclopedia of the Saltwater Aquarium.

  1. If your are just starting off or of been with the salt water hobby for a white thsi is a great book to have.

  2. If you're familiar with IT books, there's a type known as "nutshells" which contain the critical essentials the reader needs to get about their business and gain a deeper understanding of the subject-matter. I'd read about marine tankkeeping on various hobbyist websites but decided to pick this book up to make sure I understood the fundamentals before I set up my first SW tank. Dakin is clearly devoted to the hobby and provides good, sound advice for me, a novice. Some reviewers lament the lack of details for particular species; for that information, I highly recommend A PocketExpert Guide to Marine Fishes: 500+ Essential-To-Know Aquarium Species which provides detailed info about compatibility, minimum tanks sizes, and feeding requirements for various marine fishes. All-in-all, this "encyclopedia" served my needs.

  3. When I bought this book I had already been in the sw hobby for six years, but for some reason I had to have this book. Needs to be updated, but it offers a great and broad foundation of the hobby. It is easy to read, and has awesome pictures. Also some of the species names were different from what I have seen in most other books. ???

  4. This is a wonderful book for the lay person to read as they wait to see their doctor. The pictures are lovely. I gave it as a gift to my favorite dermatologist who happens to have a saltwater aquarium on display.

  5. We've used this book mostly for identification of fish that we didn't recognize at the pet store. The pictures are fantastic and it covers a broad scope of information on setting up the tank, reefs, fish and invertebrates. It gives information on what they eat, who they get along with, and what conditions they prefer. In some cases, however, the directions for caring for a certain type of fish were not as detailed as we would have liked. If you want a general saltwater reference book, this is a great investment. If you're looking for specific, detailed instructions on how to care for different things in your tank, another book might be a good supplement to this one.

1 comments about Dog Palaces: Designer Beds for Pampered Pooches.

  1. I was disappointed in the Dog Palaces book. It is not something I will want to read or "look at" over and over. I purchased it more as a "picture" book for design (interior design) and because it was by Brian Coleman... This is, however, a one time glancing. The palaces are NOT really so grand...even for a dog...they are predictable dog beds like the kind you can see on the Internet by googling DOG BEDS.

1 comments about The Dog's Mind (Pelham Dogs).

  1. This book is one of the most comprehensive books I have read encompassing how the Dog's Mind works. It is extremely well written and leaves you with a greater understanding on how to interpret your dog's body language. As a student of Canine Behaviour, I have found this book an invaluable reference tool

1 comments about Preparing for a Show (Threshold Picture Guides).

  1. I would reccomend for english riders to read the entire Threshold Picture Guide series, but am going to review th guide on "Preparing for a Show". The entire series is written in England, so terms such as "plaiting a mane and tail" (braiding) or wearing a "crash helmet" may cause minor confusion amongst American riders. However, it is an excellent guide for preparing your horse or pony for a show.

5 comments about E-mails From Shilo.

  1. a great read though not ment for someone who dos'nt like to pick up a dictionary. i enjoyed the book and learned some new words along the way.

  2. Behind the amusing, touching and sometimes hilarious thoughts of golden retriever Shilo is a deep spirituality that makes one stop and think. This is a beautifully written book with lots of fun photos. I read it twice and will read it again.

  3. This is a delightful read. Susan Lustig must have been a dog in her previous life. She is most insightful into a dog's mind. It is deeper than one thinks initially. It is humorous and elicits many chuckles. I highly recommend it to readers of all ages, from children to the elderly.
    Enjoy!

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. This book is a winner on multiple levels. It's short, sweet, has lots of priceless photos and makes for great reading, over and over again. The premise is very clever and laugh-out-loud funny. While this book is entertaining, I enjoyed it's softer, more poignant side as well. Hope to hear from this team again with more pet antics and adventures.

  5. E-mails from Shilo brought smiles to my mind. From Thanksgiving dinner to Sammy through-the-fence, I enjoyed Shilo's take on his world. Ms. Lustig writes so endearingly that her love for her dog fills this book.

3 comments about The Cats of Our Lives: Funny and Heartwarming Reminiscences of Feline Companions.

  1. This is a nice book to give to a cat owner. It has 79 pieces about cats, written by a variety of people with the common bond of loving cats. It begins with a poem by T.S. Eliot on the three names that each cat has (and you thought that your cat had only one name). Dave Barry contributes his look at cats. Don Knotts tells us how his cat gets stranded while climbing tall, mesh drapes. You may not have a dry eye after you read Gail Brennan's, "Ode to Sissy." There is a judge who keeps his cat in his courtroom for its calming effect during trials. There are stories by pro athletes and by people in all walks of life, each sharing a love of cats. We see Socks (President Clinton's cat), Garfield, and Felix. It's an enjoyable book.

  2. This is a terrible, stupid, annoying book. One pointless anecdote after another, ninety percent of them being along the lines of "Well we had this great cat once, she kept having kittens and oh they were so cute. She finally got run over by a car one day and we were sad. We will always remember our wonderful cat."

One story excerpted from a book by Sonia Fitzpatrick abruptly stops several paragraphs before the end. Another seems to be just as stupidly truncated, but I couldn't verify it, as I could with Ms. Fitzpatrick's story.

Who are the rest of these people? And why did anyone see fit to fill an entire book with their badly written and (mostly) irresponsible reminiscences? Do yourself a favor, skip this book.

  3. Ever want a book with stories and snippets about cats or a good gift for a cat lover, this is it!!!

2 comments about K9 Professional Tracking.

  1. This book seems to draw heavily on the Schutzhund method of training. It's a big improvement on the average tracking training book because of the emphasis on scent-discrimination training from the outset but it falls short of some of the books that focus on bloodhound training methods.
A specific example to highlight the difference: P 138, the authors invite you to reward your dog for refusing to continue to track where the track-layer mounts his bicycle and rides off, leaving only an 'artificial' track. Is this really what we should train our professional tracking dogs to do? What if the missing person puts on his skis in the mountains? Should we train our dogs to refuse to follow him? A trained trailing dog will barely hesitate before continuing to follow the human scent in these situations.

  2. This book gives the reader a great solid foundation knowlegde for competition tracking. My scores and training has dramatically increased since I read this book.
