1. If you really like to go to reptile shows to get your pets, this book is really great to carry with you. It consists of numerous one page entries on individual species. It includes nearly all of the reptiles (including snakes) and amphibians that you would encounter in the pet trade. Although I wish it had more information on whether or not a certain animal was easy to handle or good for beginners/experts, etc, it's a good "shotgun" herp book to have since it details lots of different species not just a select few. So if you ever have wondered how long a long-tailed lizard gets when you are at your local herp show, you can easily look it up in this book.



2. I liked nearly everything about this book. The format of one species per page with a high quality color photo made it wonderful to use. This info is for all the popular animals kept in captivity. The content of information was great, with one exception. I wish the temperature ranges for species were given, but the author directs the reader to other book titles with this and more detailed information.

1. I found the book to be very factual, interesting and some times
   amusing. I would recomend that anyone interested in getting a
   miniature pincher first read this book.



2. I've had a copy of this book on my dog book shelf for many years. Each new puppy buyer is encouraged to get a copy of this book prior to picking up their new dog. I often have extra copies for my new owners.
   
   A small but very complete reference manual that covers most of the basics and then some. I would encourage anyone new to the breed to pick up a copy. You'll find yourself reviewing chapters throughout your dogs lifetime.



3. I decided to get this book to help me understand my new Min Pin. It has great information, including behavior, obedience, nutrition and grooming. It's hard to read, though, because the pages are printed out of order. One chapter will abruptly stop, then pick up a few pages down (after another chapter has started). It makes it confusing and hard to follow. I'm very surprised that a publisher would have been so careless as to put pages out of order like this.



4. While this isn't an exhaustive book on my favorite little bundle of energy...it's really quite good for the size and price. I got this book after my son brought home a mini-pin in need of a family.

   While deciding if this little (9 pound) angelic looking creature would be suited for our family it was a good book for an overview on common health problems (some skin problems that she has had, som knee problems that she has not had)... some behavioral issues with other dogs (that she has had) and that they are one person dogs (which she hasn't had)...that they are very much the *clown* (which she very much is :). Overall...my point is...the book for it's small size and and low price was a very good intro to my new family pet.

   I would suggest buying this book prior to buying the dog. It's always better to know if a dog is suited to you before you make a 15 year committment.




5. Miniature Pinscher by Caroline Coile has proven to be a very comprehensive book on this mighty dog. This book cover topics such as: history, how to pick a min pin, raise it, understand it, train it, No-No's, how to take care of its skin and its problems, how to choose a vet, preventive medicine, genetics, and even a Min Pin Nomenclature! This book has a special chapter on "Understanding the Min Pin Mind" which I find very helpful. Vision, Olfaction, Taste, Hearing and Pain are briefly yet accurately covered here. In addition to its friendly language, 34 color photographs + illustrations will help you know what you really need to know about the mighty Miniature Pinschers. Highly Recommendable.

1. Once you live with a dachshund, as I have, you will love them forever. They have very expressive faces and wonderful personalities. This book is very nice and it was fun to read. The quality is definitely good to put on your coffee table for all to enjoy. p.s. The Amazon title is spelled incorrectly but, it is correct on the book. DACHSHUND.

2 comments about Dandie Dinmont Terrier (Comprehensive Owner's Guide).

1. Althought this is a rare breed, I was so glad to see an eminent expert on Dandies as the author. The information on the breed could not have been more complete, addressing the history in detail, with excellent annotations supplementing the standard, personal stories and details on grooming and showing. I was also impressed on the detail of the grooming techniques provided. I have a number of other books previously written on Dandies, but consider this to be far and above the best them.



2. This book is exccellent. It gives very detailed information about the breed. I recommend anyone who thinks they are interested in this perticular breed to read this book and you will have a very good understanding of the breed. For those who are interested in showing this breed this book gives excellent recommendations and suggestions on how to groom for the show ring and the pet. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT BOOK

1. This book is excellent as it is not the typical generic product that you sometimes see. This book is filled with useful information, positive reinforcement training and wonderful tips.
   As a part of the American Boxer Rescue Association as well as the IAABC and APDT, I will gladly be recommending this book to clients who own boxers.

1. If your are just starting off or of been with the salt water hobby for a white thsi is a great book to have.

If you're familiar with IT books, there's a type known as "nutshells" which contain the critical essentials the reader needs to get about their business and gain a deeper understanding of the subject-matter. I'd read about marine tankkeeping on various hobbyist websites but decided to pick this book up to make sure I understood the fundamentals before I set up my first SW tank. Dakin is clearly devoted to the hobby and provides good, sound advice for me, a novice. Some reviewers lament the lack of details for particular species; for that information, I highly recommend A PocketExpert Guide to Marine Fishes: 500+ Essential-To-Know Aquarium Species which provides detailed info about compatibility, minimum tanks sizes, and feeding requirements for various marine fishes. All-in-all, this "encyclopedia" served my needs.



3. When I bought this book I had already been in the sw hobby for six years, but for some reason I had to have this book. Needs to be updated, but it offers a great and broad foundation of the hobby. It is easy to read, and has awesome pictures. Also some of the species names were different from what I have seen in most other books. ???



4. This is a wonderful book for the lay person to read as they wait to see their doctor. The pictures are lovely. I gave it as a gift to my favorite dermatologist who happens to have a saltwater aquarium on display.



5. We've used this book mostly for identification of fish that we didn't recognize at the pet store. The pictures are fantastic and it covers a broad scope of information on setting up the tank, reefs, fish and invertebrates. It gives information on what they eat, who they get along with, and what conditions they prefer. In some cases, however, the directions for caring for a certain type of fish were not as detailed as we would have liked. If you want a general saltwater reference book, this is a great investment. If you're looking for specific, detailed instructions on how to care for different things in your tank, another book might be a good supplement to this one.
