1 comments about Miniature Pinschers (KW).

  1. I have had dogs all my life, but never Miniature Pinschers, so I decided to check them out before buying one. This book has EVERYTHING you will need to know- and she writes in a very easy to read and understand style. Definitely read this if you are getting a Min Pin- your pupper will thank you for it!

5 comments about Doga: Yoga For Dogs.

  1. If you've ever done yoga and you have a great appreciation for the zen of dogginess, you will enjoy this book. Even if you just like dogs, it should give you a laugh, but you'll probably appreciate it more if you're familiar with the ways of yoga.

It is definitely for people with a sense of humor--if you are looking for the definitive book on yoga positions and expect to teach yourself how to get into the perfect positions, well, go take a class from a human who can make sure you are properly aligned.

This book is fun, relaxing, and may inspire you to do yoga...but the most therapeutic thing about it is the laughter.

  2. This is a silly book and not worth the paper it is printed on. Not funny enough to be a joke and not real enough to be a useful tool of any sort.

  3. This was a relatively cute book, but please beware that it is not truly instructional and is not meant to teach one how to facilitate a Doggie Yoga class. This book would make a good gift for the yoga aficionado who also loves dogs and might be entertaining for a few minutes. I would have preferred to see a greater variety of dogs as well. However, I understand the author's vision in spotlighting only four in order to develop character. I would not pay full price for this book.

  4. Quite witty book of photos of young dogs in poses which look like familar yoga poses. It has imaginary commentary from the dogs.

Dog owners who do yoga will bark with delight.

  5. Dogs actually do breath correctly, humans don't unless taught. Dogs stretch when they sense the need, humans don't unless taught. Dogs are amazing to watch, there are many things innate to dogs (and most animals), that humans don't do, but probably should.

Breathing - Humans breath shallow inadequate, terse breaths. Why? Because we've forgotten how to breath correctly.

How do we learn to breath correctly? Well, at birth. Once born the baby should be placed on the mother's chest, before the cord is severed and taught to breath. There, feeling the breath come in and out of the mother, feeling the heart beat, the baby learns to breath. Most mothers will have to ensure THEY are breathing correctly to pass this Vital Information onto the babe.

Since dogs breath naturally, pups are brought close to the mother, umbilical chord usually intact and feel the breathing and the heartbeat and become one with the mother.

Okay... think about it. And that's precisely what this book does, it gets one thinking about things, that perhaps we normally wouldn't take the time nor have the inclination to discover.

I enjoyed the read, it was cute, informative and being a dog owner I could relate.

  1. This book's pictures are not the greatest. There isn't alot of detailed clipping information. The overall book is too simple for the styling info I wanted.

5 comments about The American Cocker Spaniel.

  1. This book does contain alot of information on cockers, especially helpful if interested in breeding or showing.
Includes grooming and training tips. Was a little disappointed though that the pictures are small and in black & white. Alot of them are demonstration or example photos and are hard to see.

  2. The development of the breed is explained and its relationship to the Sussex, Field and English Cocker breeds is defined. The photos are charming. The section on Form vs function is worth the price of the book. This is one book you shouldn't overlook. Dog Fancy Magazine

  3. The range of information is immense. A facinating book with a different approach and by today's standards good value for the money. For Cocker enthusiasts this is an encylopedia of the breed which would be difficult to parallel. Our Dogs Magazine of England

  4. Dr. Grossman has written what must be the final work on the American Cocker Spaniel. The author has written with clarity, and a tuch of humor sparkles in his style. Every owner of a Cocker will want to own this excellent book as a valuable reference and as a real source of practical information. American Kennel Club Gazette

  5. This is a must get. Especially for anyone truly interested in breeding cockers for show, color, and comformation. It has an excellent chapter in breeding for coat color and genetics. The book is written well with a touch of humor from a man who has much experience with the cockers; not someone who wants to publish a book about the breed. He has many references to other reading material, as well as a very thorough history of the breed, including many pedigrees on these dogs. If you only get one book on the Cocker Spaniel--this is THE ONE to get

2 comments about How to Train Your Cocker Spaniel (Tr-106).

  1. This book is wonderful. It's simple to read and I've had great success following the training techniques. Liz teaches the importance of training your cocker with a firm, but loving hand; as well as how to train your cocker to have manners and do some pretty impressive tricks! Knowing how to work with my dog, has given us a wonderful and fun relationship. I bought a few other books on Cockers, but this one by far is my favorite!

  2. You won't be confused when you get to the training part. The book explains the stuff well, and at the same time the pictures of Cockers are cute and colorful. My friend read this, and since our friend lives in our house, we will have tips on how to train the best dog in the world, the COCKER SPANIEL!!!

1 comments about I'll Wait in the Car: Dogs Along for the Ride.

  1. This is a masterpiece. I cannot think of a more perfect gift for anyone who loves dogs, likes dogs, has a dog, or simply has smiled at a dog sitting behind the wheel in a parking lot, waiting for its owner. It is clear that the author is in the first category-- she loves dogs, and photographs them with love and dignity. The photographs are all fine works of art, in addition to being funny, insightful and heart-tugging. What are you waiting for? Get this book!

5 comments about How to Massage Your Cat.

  1. A quick read, and very funny, if you have the right sense of humor. There is no real cruelty to animals being portrayed in this book, and the nonplussed look of the cat through the entire thing is priceless.

  2. I like this book and it's very funny, but the title is misleading. It's a collection of tongue-in-cheek illustrations, but not only do they not teach you how to massage your cat, they would actually be physically damaging (like "pull your cat's arms out to the side and give a sharp tug"). I could recommend the book, but buy it ONLY as a joke, and then also buy one of the many other books on the market that really do teach you how to massage your cat.

  3. I first got this book about 30 years ago, when I was a teenager. It made me laugh so hard then that it brought me to tears. Every few years I pull it out to share with someone and it STILL makes me cry with laughter. I'm sorry to find that some people have the opposite reaction. To me, it's hard to understand. I love my cat and know this book isn't meant seriously. It's a deliciously ridiculous 'how-to'. I will always love it.

  4. I didn't find this book all that funny, but then, that's just me. I'm sure any potential buyer can get the gist of what the book's about from reading these reviews, so if this sounds like it's up your alley then go for it.

I do think it's silly to claim anyone who doesn't like this book is an idiot. The images do depict an animal being hurt - certain people will never like seeing pictures of that, even if they know it's a joke. So some people are turned off by violent images in general and others don't mind as long as it's all clearly in absurd good fun - that doesn't mean one group has no sense of humor, or that those who are not bothered by the images can't enjoy the book.

  5. My family owned this book 25 years ago and I thought it would be out of print... everyone loves it, from kids to elders.
