1 comments about The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult: Ferret and Rabbit (5 Minute Veterinary Consult: Ruminant).
- Vets as well as owners of either ferrets or rabbits will appreciate this concise guide for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in either. A series of formatted topics address all common conditions, covering diagnosis, treatment and medication and listing topics alphabetically for quick consultation. Each condition receives an overview of the basics, diagnostic procedures, treatment options, and medications. While it's technical enough for a vet's office, owners will find it equally valuable.

4 comments about Top Dog: Training the Retriever for Waterfowl and Upland Hunting.
- This book will give you all the basic skills you need for obedience, and starting you gun dog. It does have a lot of info about later training as well. Ignore the review about not being able to train a dog at 1 year on page 26. He is taking it out of context. The actual quote from the book is as follows: "I can't guarantee that good preschool work will make your dog a top dog, but I can guarantee the puppy will be untrainable if you bring it home, put it in the kennel, give it no name, pay no attention to it, and a year or so later try to train it".
This is a great book for anyone that has decided to train their own gun dog!
- this book focuses too much on field trials and not enough on the hunting dog..better books out there for the hunter
- What a dissapointment of a book. While the training methods seem very reasonable. This book is totally geared for the new puppy owner or even prospective puppy buyer. He states in the book that obedience training should begin at age 49 days. and actually has the arrogance to say on page 26 that a dog that is a year old is untrainable. I cannot be the only person in the world who has aquired an adolescent dog that needs field training. Book is virtually worthless.
- Top Dog has it all - this training guide is practical, simple and effective. The training methods work equally well for the family pet or a hunting dog. Having trained dogs for many years, I have several books in my collection, Top Dog is by far the most complete guide for amateur trainers. The book takes you and your dog on a journey from the basics of obedience to advanced drills, in minutes a day. If you only have one book, Top Dog is the one to buy.

2 comments about Decoys and Aggression.
- This book is the best I've seen for teaching decoys to read dogs. The information is great for both novice and seasoned trainer. Prior to training any decoy it is required reading. It's great to see someone who has spent time training dogs not just studying theories. It is well written, clear cut and straight to the point, it's filled from start to finish with useful information.
- Great information for novices and experts alike. Excellent section on reading canine body language and influencing the dog's perception of you by using your body language. I have read and re-read this book many times and have found valuable information every time. This book is essential for all novice decoys, trainers and for anyone who handles dogs that can be aggressive. Get this book, it may save you from being bitten or seriously injured.

2 comments about The Art of the Western Saddle: A Celebration of Style and Embellishment.
- This book is an amazing combination of history and photos of western saddles and saddle-making. Some of the photos are not as sharp as what we can do today, but the views of saddles from the "plain," practical work saddle and the ornate show and parade saddles present the saddle as functional as well as works of art.
- This is a beautiful book and I've spent a lot of time with it. Lovely large photos, I especially like the double page spread of the Lone Ranger's saddles, those really brought back memories! I'm using the photos as reference for decorating a miniature saddle and its the perfect help.

5 comments about Your Purebred Puppy, Second Edition: A Buyer's Guide, Completely Revised and Updated.
- The reason this book is different and better than the rest is that it gives HONEST dog reveiws as opposed to a dog glorification books that descibe every breed in the most delightful way calling bad traits delightful words like a "little daredevil" - translation - does not follow commands. This author seems to say it all in a way no other website or book I have seen does. Yeah he/she does not put in the beautiful pictures - but if you want a table coffee book of dogs buy some other book. If you want the brass tacks truth before you invest in a 10-plus year commitment and plenty of vet bills - this is the book and this is the author
- This book covers just about every kind of dog, and has a great system for rating the type of dog that's perfect for you (for example, do you hate shedding? How much activity do you want the dog to have indoors? How much exercise will he need?) The one thing I have missed is "availability". For example, my ratings put "Labrador Retriever" at the same level as "Keeshond", but where on earth am I going to find a Keeshond breeder? And who knows anything about that kind of dog if he has behavioral or health problems, other than a specialist? This is really the only problem, and is one of practicality - on the the other hand, it is good to be thorough when deciding on your breed of dog.
- Your Purebred Puppy
Reasonably well done. Should help many new owners toward getting a dog that better fits into their lives.
Could be improved by emphasizing and being more in depth on negativities.
Tim Violett

- This book is very well written and the perfect guide for picking the right breed for you. My thanks to the author for doing the research for me and making it understandable.

2 comments about Cow Dogs: A Cowboy's Best Friend.
- This book is a must for anyone who shares their life with a Border Collie or Cattle Dog. The photography is spectacular. You won't be disappointed.
- Cow Dogs by master photographer David R. Stoecklein is a captivating treasury of full-color photographs featuring a cowboy's dog. Each page has a striking visual image of capable animals who are indispensable canine companions for working cowboys, accentuated with a tongue-in-cheek quote. A joy to page through especially for dog lovers, Cow Dogs is a unique and welcome addition to personal and community library photography collections -- as well as recommended browsing for dog lovers on or off of a cattle ranch.

5 comments about Quality Deer Management: The Basics and Beyond.
- The author, Charles Alsheimer, does a fantastic job bringing the ourdoors inside and providing valuable information that would be of great help to anyone interested in deer hunting and the management of that valued resource--the whitetail deer. I even bought a second one to give to a fellow hunter/land owner friend who is also interested in quality deer management.
- I have read several books about creating better habitat, food plots, etc for whitetails, and this book is by far the most comprehensive, in depth book I've read. The author truly knows his stuff and gives tons of tips for improving your deer herd and deer hunting. Excellent buy, great photography.
- Alsheimer shows what deer hunting is made of with this book. You'll get top-of-the-line information on planting food plots, managing trees, keeping records on your deer, hunting deer for your setup--everything!! He not only tells you how to manage your property and deer, but also explains how deer live throughout the entire year.
Charlie Alshiemer is a photographer by trade, which is very obvious in this book. His photos of whitetails are nothing short of amazing.
His style is very matter-of-fact and easy to understand, making it that much more enjoyable to read.
This is by far the most informative book I have ever read. Buy it today; you will get your money's worth. I wish there were more books like this one on the market!! I'll give it as many stars as are available!!
- I couldn't put the book down. I grew up in Steuben County in the town of Caton. Iam going to start implementing some of the things I learned in this book this year. I would tell anyone interested in learning how to grow bigger deer (buck or doe) should read this book.
- Charlie Alsheimer is possibly the best white-tailed deer writer of all time. He is certainly the best deer photographer. His new book Quality Deer Managment the Basics and Beyond, is a prime example of both his talent as a writer and his brilliance as a photographer. I believe it to be his best book ever.
The book is written in Charlie's classic down home, easy to read style with easy to grasp explinations of complicated deer managment issues. He covers virtually every aspect of the QDM scene with common sense and uncommon insight. His treatment of the topic is inspirational and leaves you wanting to get out there and start practicing QDM now! The photos chosen to illustrate the text are nothing short of spectacular. They bring the entire text to life in brilliant color and give you an up close and personal view of whitetails as only Alsheimer can. After reading this book I picked up a copy of "Grow 'em Right" the new "how to" habitat and food plot book by Dougherty & Dougherty and am now ready to conquer the world of Quality deer managment. Now white-tailed deer book library is complete without this book

- This is neat little book and great for any cat-lover. Quotes from the famous and not so famous. The pictures are great. I bought it because I am doing cat art and the illustrations are outstanding and capture the cat's unique personalities.
- This is a great little book for the cat lover. Wonderful quotes are paired with Lesley Anne Ivory's exquisite cat paintings.
- A great book for the child who loves cats.
