5 comments about Will I See Fido in Heaven?: Scripturally Revealing God's Eternal Plan for His Lesser Creatures.
- This book couldn't have come at a better time for me. It seems the Lord knew exactly what I needed when I visited my library 2 days before a mission trip, 2 days following the tragic death of our beloved pet Nadia. As I read the book, I kept my Bible close and it all made perfect sense. I received such peace from God through the teachings of Ms. Buddemeyer-Porter. I thank the Lord for this answer to my prayer.
- A wonderful review not only of scripture, but also how well-known theologians down through history agree: You will see Fido in Heaven. I cannot rate this book high enough.
- If you have ever lost a pet or know someone who has, then, aside from the Bible, this is the ONE book you really should read and share. Since it came to my attention on Amazon, I have gifted this book several times always with the same grateful result.
- "Will I See Fido In Heaven" is an adult way of looking at the loss of a dear pet. This book is thoughtful, and somewhat comforting. Nothing would be more comforting than actually having the lost loved-one back by one's side. However, this book is as good as it gets.
- There are many believers in Christ who do not believe that we will see our pets in heaven. I must admit that before reading Mary's book, "Will I See Fido in Heaven?", I felt this same way. As an animal lover and Christian, I was willing to accept whatever God's plan was for animals eternal destination, whether it be that life would just simply end, or that their souls would dwell along side those of us in Heaven who believe in Jesus Christ. Mary uses sound scripture to back up her beliefs. God's word is true and without error. If we choose not to believe His word, then we will miss out on the blessings He intends for us to have and enjoy. If you love animals and our Lord and Savior who created them, read Mary's book. You'll be glad that you did.

1 comments about Clicker Training: Colt Starting the Natural Horse.
- Perhaps it is unusual to be thrilled about a book at the age of 80, but this book which combines Positive Reinforcement [clicker] & Negative [Natural Horsemanship] Reinforcement is the most up to date book of its kind for horses. It is filled with great one liners and specific step by steps: "how to do it". And the steps are in order. I thought I was inventing this but she does it better than I do. I train my horses from scratch and ride into the high back-counry alone. You have to trust each other up there.
Every thing I could find in the book works and makes the relationship better at the same time.
She defines dominance [in the round pen chapter] and I use something from Rashid I use called Accepted Horse Leader: Those are the same terms only because of the way she does it. Being dominate in a forceful way is not there, but what I call being an Accepted Leader is there. She explains why being safe is important and how to achieve that safety for both of you in the best way possible for both of you.
The stories are all so meaningful and encouraging, stories that come only from a long and very creative experience.
If you have been doing this work on your own, you don't have to be alone anymore. This is a great book.
She also fades out the clicker: A "how to" that is often neglected.
The only objection I have is there is no Index. Dr. Phil didn't have one in his 1st book either so she is in good company. Drat: No index.
Don't forget to read the Closing on p 306.
Thrilling, Yes, Thrilling,
David

3 comments about Treats, Play, Love: Make Dog Training Fun for You and Your Best Friend.
- This book is great. I have two Chi's and need all the help I can get! The book is informative and definitely useable in everyday life.
- understanding the behavior from the dog perspective is helpful in understanding how to treat problematic behavior
- Some twenty years Burnham wrote one of my favorite training books, *Playtraining Your Dog* -- purportedly as a rebuttal to the mordant severity of Koehler, et al. *Treats, Play, Love* is something of a sequel to *Playtraining,* something of an updating -- and equally superb. When my copy arrived from, I sort riffled the pages as I walked from the mailbox into the house, and all of a sudden, I realized I was sitting at the table, still wearing my jacket and scarf, and reading the damn thing. It's that good. This would be an excellent book to give someone who wants to get started in dog sports. There are whole sections worth quoting.

1 comments about The Principles of Teaching Riding: The Official Manual of the Association of British Riding Schools.
- This manual for the most part, lays down rudimentary knowledge about teaching riding. Its a good source of information for someone hoping to become an instructor, and would even be good reading for someone who just started riding (to clarify questions).
It has details on different types of courses for different students, rider safety, and covers student progression up to the beginner/intermediate level. For someone who has moderate experience as an instructor, it may be redundant information but its still very usefull as a reference, and will clear up any small teaching obstacles that you may have with your younger students.

5 comments about Cockatoos: Acclimation, Care, Feeding, Sickness, and Breeding (A Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- This is a standard, well-done pet owner's guide for cockatoos, including scads of information on the increasingly-popular pet. I wish that the book took more of a stand against the capture of these beautiful animals from the wild, but sadly, it merely warns against the health threats of smuggled birds.
Once you're over the moral quandary of obtaining your bird in an ethical manner, the book provides all of the information you could hope for. It not only gives you the basics of feeding and housing, but also has sections on breeding your cockatoo, and on understanding your cockatoo's verbal and physical cues.
The drawings are well-done, and many of the color photographs are simply gorgeous.
If you're considering getting a cockatoo as a first-time owner, I urge you to read this book cover-to-cover before you commit to getting your bird, as they have long life spans and are quite high-maintenance in some ways, and you should know what you're getting yourself into. Also, please support a local breeder rather than paying for the taking of these beautiful animals from their natural habitat.
- This book is no longer usefull. The info. is quite out dated foe example the author tells you that cockatoos need ONLY a seed diet. This was so 20 years ago. Pellets have been proven to be the diet with seeds (if fed) should be 10% of the daily diet. He does say feed fresh veggies, fruits etc. Also you are told about importing birds. This is against the law & has been so for YEARS.Not very much info. most info is only a few lines.under usefull literature & addresses he gives you names & addresses of magazines that are no longer in business. Over all the book is not worth the ink to print it.
- I gave this book 5 stars because it was very susccinct and informative.
- This book was OKAY. It didn't really talk much about how big they can get etc. Also, half of the book talked only about bredding which IS NOT the reason I bought it. I wanted general information on just SINGLE cockatoos not pairs!
- Upon reading this book, I found it to be a little too short in the areas I'm interested in. I've been breeding birds and taking in neglected birds which is one of the reasons I purchased this book. It is okay for someone wanting general information.( The pictures are nice to look at, says my son.) This is not to be used as a "bible".

5 comments about Greater Swiss Mountain Dog: A Complete and Reliable Handbook (Rare Breed).
- It is a nice introduction to the Swissy with beautiful photos. The book, however, reads like a brochure. It is inappropriately priced in the textbook range, which it is not (not worth more than $30). The book is superficial and could greatly benefit from some more detailed information. That being said, it does cover some general topics nicely.
- Great book with lots of personal input by Mr. Barton. I was not sure what to expect when I got my pup other than what I saw on the internet and what the breeder told me. It was all pretty on target, but in this book, Mr. Barton introduces more subtle and intersting accounts of the characteristics of the breed and now I can see all this dveloping in my own Swissy. ...
- I just purchased my third copy of this book. Once I loan my copy out to friends or family, it disappears! I'm not telling anyone else I have a new copy! So obviously it is a VERY interesting and informative book. I agree with one of the previous reviewers however. When will you be writing another book?!? Thanks for the information you provide without boring us with unnecessary details.
- I really enjoy this book, I wish it was longer, my 2 yr old daughter loved all the colorful pictures of the puppies and dogs. Very informative, and helpful.
- This is a very informative book. From the history, selecting a breeder, feeding and training. It's a must have for any "swissy" owner. The photos are terrific and I can't think of a thing that Mr. Barton has left out!

5 comments about Ferrets (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- all ferret owner should have this book. very pictorial. has a lot of the same information as other ferret books
- This book provides the reader a great overview of ferret care, health, diet, and many other topics such as the food they eat and the type of cages they should have. The only thing I did not like about the book is on page 31 quoting, "If your ferret plays too roughlt, a sound thump on the nose with your forefinger, accompanied by a sharp "No", will soon advise your ferret that this is not acceptable behavior". I have to disagree! Out of all ferret reading I have done, books, magazines, and Internet researching, I always read that nose thumping is not appropriate to teach a ferret of his/her errors. This is only book that suggests that it is okay. Otherwise all the other topics are great and make sense. Despite the disagreement, I give 4 stars for great overall well rounded book.
- Owning a ferret is a little like owning a child - they require your full attention and a great deal of time, especially when they're young. When we bought our first ferret, Tycho, my wife and I had already done a little research and so we had some idea of what to expect. We should have done more, however. They're a handful, but ultimately worth it, because most ferrets are not only cute and cuddly, but smarter than most dogs and like cats, genuinely curious in most things in their environment. Before bringing your little carpet shark home it is important to know what you're getting into. Prospective ferret owners should do plenty of research before taking the plunge and buying one or more of the little cuties.
E. Lynn Morton's book presents an easy to read yet detailed fact book about fuzzies, basics like nutrition- ferrets are carnivores and cannot handle a vegetarian diet, and even explains proteins and how they can differ depending on the source. Discipline and how it should be done- and I have found that most books recommend the same basic techniques, none of which require hitting your ferret or even flicking its nose. And it was thanks to this book it explained seasonal weight loss and gains, something that had us very worried when Tycho shed a half pound in just a short while. It also talks about diseases common to ferrets and detail about their biology. It has plenty of pictures of fuzzies, cages, toys, bedding, and what is and is not acceptable for ferrets to live in, sleep in and play with. More importantly it asks the reader to think about the time they will have to spend after getting their carpet shark- they require more care than either kittens or puppies at first and when they're out of their cages, require constant supervision. Tycho is joy to own, but it hasn't been all roses. He bit a lot and got into things he shouldn't have, but at six months of age we own a very loving and happy ferret who plays with us and new kitten pal, Fenix. Thanks to books like this and the others my wife and I have read, we're a little smarter for the experience and have a great new pet.
- I recently became co-owner of a baby ferret, Tycho--after the astronomer. Just lately Tycho has exhibited a rather alarming weight drop. Morton's book suggested itself as a useful resource for the nervous ferret "parent," and indeed it has been. In reading the section on weight cycles, we learned that the ferret tends to gain and loose weight according to the seasons and light intensity. What a relief! The little guy has been a dear and amusing pet, full of bouncing, peppy mischief, and we'd hate to loose him. It's nice to know we'll be better able to care for the newest member of our household with this new book.
- I read this book and I thought it was great. This book was so good I bought all of my relitives that have Ferrets this book. So I highly recomed this book to any ferret lovers.

2 comments about Horses Talking: How to Share Healing Messages with the Horses in Your Life.
- Chapter 4: "Who is in the mirror?" is one of the most powerful I have read in ANY horse book. She writes: "The more we understand that horses mirror our thoughts, fears and self-doubts, problems and behaviour, the easier it is to work at letting go of all these issues. The incentive is a better rapport with our horse. The horse also mirrors our healing actions and good intent." If you are ready to look at yourself in the mirror and change, then this book is for you. If you can not take responsibility for you own actions and tend to blame the horse, you are not ready to look in the mirror. In healing yourself, your horse is healed with you and it will show in your relationship with your horse. Personally, I use Reiki in the healing, but you can use anything you want, or call it anything you want.
- If you believe horses are sentient creatures this book is a must read. If you don't - reading it may change your life forever.
