5 comments about Getting in TTouch with Your Dog: An Easy, Gentle Way to Better Health and Behavior.
- This book has great pictures and easy to follow dialogue that explains the T Touch technique , the reason to use it and what you can expect from it. I found it easy to follow and useful for my dogs.Getting in TTouch with Your Dog: An Easy, Gentle Way to Better Health and Behavior
- This is a simple guide book for dog owners who are interested in learning some easy hands-on techniques to help calm their pet. The information was easy to follow and my dog loves to be petted using these techniques.
I learned the basic philosophy after reading the book once.
- I previewed this book via the library and then opted to purchase a copy for myself. Learning T-Touch isn't something that I have done quickly but it does seem to be helping me to help my dogs relax.
- Very useful read for anyone who has dogs.
- This book not only has good insight to dogs needs but illustrates the tTouch. It very much compliments the tape on this same subject.I'm sure happy I got it. So are my 3 dogs.

4 comments about Mine! A Practical Guide to Resource Guarding in Dogs.
- The book arrived faster than expected and in perfect shape. The information in the book has been just what we needed for the puppy we adopted. She had some of the worst resource guarding ever. In days you could a big improvement. She went from snapping and snarling at everyone over her food to being able to chew on a kong next to my other dog.
- Resource guarding, dogs growling or biting when food, toys, specific locations, etc. are approached is an extremely common problem. Jean explains in easy to understand terms how to modify this problem behavior. A must have for any professional trainer or any owner of a dog that resource guards.
- It arrived very quickly and was brand new. I would order from this seller again.
- I am so glad I finally found this book! It's a bit smaller than I would like but worth getting.

5 comments about Complete Holistic Dog Book: Home Health Care for Our Canine Companions.
- I recently ordered several books about dogs and how to maintain their health. This book was the BEST one of the bunch. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants the best for their animal companion(s). After reading this book I ordered several more to give as christmas presents.
I especially loved the chapter on the healthiest foods to feed your dog. It has changed the way I feed my own dogs and they absolutely LOVE their new way of eating. Who knew that the healthy foods that humans eat is exactly what is the healthiest foods for our own dogs. I know that I wasn't aware of that fact until I read this book.
I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who shares their life with a dog.
- Since buying this book it has become my best friend, it has helped me and especially my animal friends time and time again. Many of my dog loving friends also own this book now because of the info i have shared with them from this book . A definate must have if you are searching for alternative health care.
- Excellent book Well Written. Great format, great philosophy well researched.
All dog lovers should read and have this in their library. High marks !

- Fabulous book!! It is packed with information, but easy to understand and apply. I found the book to be very balanced and subjective in it's approach and advice. For example, it fairly presents the pros/cons of different diet approaches, without specifically recommending a "one size fits all" solution. All chapters of the book are valuable, but the section on diet and nutrition is particularly outstanding! Since reading the book, I have adopted a diet of home-cooked meals for my german-shepherd-mutt that is virtually 100% vegetarian! Seeing the way she responded to the new diet has converted many of my friends into believers who were total skeptics of a vegetarian diet. Although my dog was always healthy and happy, the changes are unbelievable in terms of her temperament, appearance and personality.
Regardless of whether you're looking to change your dog's diet (as I did), this is a valuable book and must-have for every serious dog owner!
- I have a variety of books on health for dogs, which I reference often. I noticed lately, however, that I've gone to this book first over and over and often I don't need to look at any of my other books. I usually cross reference material, but I've found valididated information from several other sources in this book so often that I save myself the trouble and just reference this book now.
Rarely do I find a "the only book you'll need" in any book, but this one definitely has it all, and the information is not extreme. The authors recognize balance, recognize that there are a variety of methods to attack a problem, and they present each method thoroughly and non-judgmentally.
For example, if a dog is vomiting and has nausea, they first differentiate between acute and chronic. If acute, they first give information on nutritional support, then homeopathy, then herbs, then accupressure and finally other methods including flower essences and considering addressing the dog's emotional state. If chronic, they are just as thorough but give other paths to follow in trying to treat the dog's vomiting.
In addition to concrete suggestions for treating many health problems, very clear and professionally drawn illustrations abound throughout the book. In the section for vomiting, one drawing shows the dog's digestive tract and another the accupressure points for the digestive tract. When referring to the illustration in the text, the authors also reference corresponding charts and additional illustrations in another part of the book (and give page numbers!) that will further explain information regarding that particular illustration, such as finding the exact meridian point on the dog.
The treatments the authors focus on in the book include diet, homeopathy, herbs, accupressure, acupuncture, TCM, bodywork, and energy medicine. The authors touch on a few other areas of therapy but they focus primarily on the topics just mentioned.
I found the illustrations to be extremely valuable. They are peppered throughout the book showing parts of the dog that are relevant to the corresponding text. The illustrations aren't too detailed; they have just enough to explain. They're clear, concise, and easy to understand.
Overall, this is the best comprehensive book on holistic dog care on my shelf. I'm gradually getting rid of the others because they don't compare at all to the accurately named, "The Complete Holistic Dog Book."

5 comments about Cat Training in 10 Minutes.
- Not sure if it worked in 10 minutes but did have some ideas to try. Wouldnt be the first book I would buy on training but worth a shot if other ideas fail.
- Don't know what else to do with your cat besides petting and playing a game catch the string or ball? Have fun, train your cat.
I just got this book and already my cat and I have spent time doing the beginning tricks and she's loving it! She bit my finger though trying to get the treat, so I suggest you follow the book and make yourself a training spoon. As for getting a 'clicker' I haven't found a good reason to use it. (After trying the 'come here' command successfully several times without the clicker, I tried it with the clicker and the sound scared my cat--maybe we'll work on it...)
Good info in this book--it would be nice if they can make a cat training DVD. It's nice to see it working.
- I like this book for it's teaching methods concerning positive techniques, for example, teaching a cat to do tricks. It has good step by step instructions for novice cat trainers to use. But the book falls far short in the section called "Correcting Improper Behavior." The author almost seems to assume that you'll be present, for example, every time kitty jumps on the counter, & that's just not going to be the case for most people, especially working people. The author suggests correcting improper behaviors by hissing at your cat while using a water pistol. I've tried it, & it doesn't work. Part of the problem is that when you see your cat doing something undesirable, you have to go & get the water pistol. By that time, the cat's finished with the behavior & it's too late to follow the procedure. I don't tend to walk around the house with a water pistol in my hand or pocket all day long, & many times, kitty silently surprises me with what he's doing. Another option is to keep a water pistol in every room, also not practical! In addition, many people want to buy a book such as this one to halt improper behaviors, & there are very few such behaviors covered in this book. So for the positive approaches, it's a good book, but it's not sufficient for dealing with improper behaviors.
- I'm a HUGE fan of this book. It has straightforward, easy-to-follow instructions with clear illustrations, and it really works! I'm working my way up to the bigger things (like walking on a leash), but so far, with only 5-10 minutes of "training" a day, my cat has quickly picked up both the "come" and the "sit" commands. This book suggests particular hand signals to pair with the voice commands (which the pictures clarify) and they REALLY seem to make a difference. My kitty even responds to the hand signals alone now, which is great. But to pick up these behaviors in a day or two is truly impressive! I can't get over how fast he's learning all these things, and all credit goes to the book. It's a great resource for training your cat, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
- I purchased this book and another entitled "Getting Started: Clicker Training for Cats". The latter is absolutely useless! It is filled with antedotes and very little to almost no instruction. What a waste. "10 mintues" is the only book you need to clicker train your feline. My very energetic kitten has responded almost instantly to clicker training. It gives her something to do and think about, as well as use all the excess energy! After three 10 minute sessions my kitten targets, comes, sits, and twirls, as well as taking treats from my hand politely. What more can I say? Buy this book!

3 comments about How to Run a Dog Business: Putting Your Career Where Your Heart Is.
- This is another good book that I would recommend to those getting into this business. Good info and Ideas.
- I've been running a small dog training business for around 8 years now and after reading this book, have realized how many things I could be doing better. Her ideas are simple yet effective. This is a definite MUST READ if you're thinking of going into a dog related business or even if you're already in one!
- A professional dog-trainer, Veronica Boutelle is also the former Director of Behavior and Training at the San Francisco SPCA. In "How To Run A Dog Business: Putting Your Career Where Your Heart Is", she draws upon her many years of experience and expertise to show aspiring dog trainers wanting to start their own business how to analyze their market, set prices, and advertise their services; determine what licenses, insurance, and professional affiliations are needed; create systems that profitably streamline the business; and how to balance work demands with having a personal life. Exceptionally well written and superbly organized, "How To Run A Dog Business" is very highly recommended for aspiring professionals, as well as non-specialized general readers who enjoy the company and training of their canine companions.

5 comments about The United States Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship: Basics for Beginners/D Level (Howell Reference Books).
- I am a beginning & intermediate horseback riding instructor in Moscow, ID. I have found the Pony Club Manual for beginners to be a very helpful teaching tool - the illustrations are helpful and well-labeled, and the layout is easy to follow. The information is widely accepted as correct, and the text is well-written for the 10-15 year old ages. I include a manual in the price of all my beginning horse camps for 10-14 year olds.
- This is the an excellent introduction for anyone interested in horsemanship. It can be studied prior to joining the United States Pony Club or serve as a usful tool in teaching or improving horsemanship for the young or beginning equestrian.
- I couldn't have gotten through Pony Club Quiz Bowl if I didn't have this book. I like the exercises in the book and now I do them on my horse. I learned alot while reading this book, like parts of the tack and how to be safe around horses. I like all the pictures in the book because it helped me to understand what it meant. I would reccommend this book to other pony clubbers and kids who like to ride.
- There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Susan Harris is not only a gifted artist ; drawing her explanations of concepts she is relating ; she draws pictures with her words, and for anyone lucky enough to attend one of her clinics , she draws explanations with body language. I am fortunate to have Sue as my friend and mentor for 30+ years & have told her often that "She could read the phone book to you & You'd never lose interest". She is also a gifted horsewoman & teacher. She posseses an ability to locate the crux of a lack of understanding & with empathy for both horse & rider guides them to a solution. If I had to limit my horse library to just a few books, her USPC manuels would be the first chosen. They are a wealth of information on all aspects of horsemanship , for every level of horseman , of any age. Her choice of words combined with her own illustrations gives very clear & interesting information.Sue stresses empathy for your horse & safety issues in every topic -2 basics to have ingrained in anyone who wishes to be around horses. I have recommended these books to all who share the "addiction" to horses with me.
- I advise anyone young who is seriously interested in horses to start with this book. I've been riding all my life and think this is a great book to start with and it is very informative.

5 comments about The Original Dog Bible: The Definitive Source to All Things Dog.
- Whether you own a pure-bred dog, a designer breed, or a rescued pooch this book is for you.
An encyclopedic resource on all things dog; everything from training and behavior tips, over 50 fun activities to enjoy with your dog, grooming helps, over 100 health remedies, pages of emergency solutions, and 50 career profiles with dogs.
There are profiles of over 250 breeds from every place imaginable; from the USA to Burkina Faso. Big dogs, small dogs, hunting, herding, feral, lap, working, show, and companion dogs. They are all in this book.
I've spent hours just leafing through this book a page at a time marveling at the wonders of this creation of God; the diversity of breeds, and their characteristics.
The Dog Bible will bring hours of enjoyment and is highly recommended to the dog lover, and dog owner.
- This is the worst dog book I have ever owned. I've been breeding and showing dogs for 20 years. I picked this book up and thought it might make a good general reference book. I was so disappointed when I got home. I felt like half of the material in it came directly from the Humane Society's web site. Much of the information in the book, which should be factual, is half-researched opinion. I can find better information than this on the Internet. The book hasn't been particularly well proofed or edited, either. Very disappointed.
- This book has everything about dogs. EVERYTHING. Breeds, how to raise a puppy, how to treat a sick dog and such as that. It even has little info boxes throughuot the whole book. It even has 101 activities you can do with your dog. It even has over 200 breeds of dog in the breed section. It even has EVERYTHING. A VERY good resource!
- I am a new dog owner, never had any experience with any dog ever. So naturally I was a tad uninformed about the subject. This book changed all that. This book is an incredible resource. It covers every conceivable thing about dogs. From A to Z. Plenty of color pictures and charts. This is a great resource. So good it's worth it's weight in gold, to me at least. I learned so much. I took the time to read the whole dang thing--iyt took a while--and I know I will return back to it in the future as I need to. This is a great reference if you know nothing about dogs. You won't be disappointed.
- The book is a good guide for dogs. This book includes must know infomations about dogs.

5 comments about Adopting the Racing Greyhound.
- I am a first time Greyhound adopter and I'm so glad this is one of the books that was a pre-adoption requirement. I enjoy how Cynthia is so in tune with these wonderful dogs and she gives you the info directly from her heart! They said any book by Cynthia Branigan is worth purchasing, so I'm going to buy her other book on Greyhounds next.
- This book was such a help as the breed was new to me. I knew nothing about the personality of the breed or what to expect. This book will help any one interested in adopting a Grey through the first months and the life of the pet. The medical information is invaluble as these are things some vets don't know let alone the pet owner. The book not only assists you in knowing the breed before you bring one home, but can greatly assist you in deciding if this is the right pet for you.
- this book is a must if you are planning to adopt a greyhound for a companion...great information to help you make the right decision to see if a greyhound is the right "new family member" for you and your family.
- Great book -- if I only had one book on the subject, this would be it.
The narrative style made the book enjoyable for me to read (yet difficult to skim). The book offered me plenty of practical advice and opinion based on the author's experience.
The "dummies book" is has better illustrations, but this book wins-out for its consistent organization and easy readability. (I've also reviewed the Dummies book on Amazon in more detail: 3 of 5 stars).
- This is absolutely the best book to read if you are interested in finding out more about greyhound adoption. The information is clear, accurate, and very well written. Consider this your greyhound "Bible".

5 comments about 500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish: A Visual Reference to the Most Popular Species.
- Yes, there's probably every bit of 500 fish in this book, but it still lacks on a few of the more common species. It is also a little too vague on descriptions. There is a 4 page spread on Discus and Oscars, but that's not really necessary when all the other fish are given one page with one sentence descriptions.
It's still nifty to have at home, but if you want to see how the fish are going to cohabitate with your other tank mates, this is not your book.
- I owm saltwater fish but had gotten rusty on freshwater. I needed to relearn this for my new job so this book helped me get back on track. Information is very clear and pictures are excellent. It gave me a quick primer. I think it also a good beginners book since it is easy to understand.
- This book is good for a quick referencing look at fishes of your interest. The information is adequate for a quick look but not enough if you wnat to know more.Nice, big, clear, colorful pictures that is easy to look at and quick and easy to read basic information about the fish is also included like water temp. max. length, aggreesiveness. It's a great book for a beginner like me who wants to compare different fishes and know a little bit about them for now.
- This book has many diffent fish in it. It also has the sizes and needs of all the fish. Great pictures!!
- This book is very compact and the images of good quality. It is a lot smaller than I expected, though. Each page features one fish variety, with a photo and some basic info. The amount of information that fits onto such a tiny page is very limited. Despite the small size, the book is hardcover, thick and heavy and does not qualify as a pocket guide. I don't quite get what the idea was here : it is neither pocketguide, nor large glossy reference/ coffee table book. If I had actually seen the book before purchase, I would not have bought it...

5 comments about The Emotional Lives of Animals: A Leading Scientist Explores Animal Joy, Sorrow, and Empathy - and Why They Matter.
- The book has some very good points. However, the author repeats his ideas many times. I got about halfway through the first chapter and lost interest. I think the book could have been condensed, considerably.
- I am founder of an animal rescue group in Pinehurst NC called Animal Advocates of Moore county.
I found the book to be excellent !!!!!
Maureen Burke-Horansky
- Marc Bekoff has rattled more than a few cages in his long career as a cognitive ethologist, but that does not make what he has to say any less true. This book summarizes the case for recognizing the similarities we share with our non-human mammalian companions, and it does so with flair, as well as attention to scientific detail.
For scientists or simply science buffs, this book has plenty to satisfy, but it's not just for them. This book is more for the average American who has always sensed the truths of non-human emotional lives (or maybe even has not), but is curious about the science behind the facts.
I have long been fond of saying "a mammalian brain is a mammalian brain is a mammalian brain, whether it belongs to you, your cat or my horse." Marc Bekoff makes this same statement with much more clarity and deeper understanding.
This book should leave you with a greater respect for the lives of the non-humans we share this planet with, and a deeper understanding of the ways our experiences here are the same, rather than focusing on what's different. It turns out the similarities are greater than the differences!
But all the science aside, this is also a book filled with great stories of observations of scientists and laypeople alike that back up the studies. Stories like the one told by an e-mail friend of mine, who witnessed two young mice trapped, where one helped the other to recover rather than just seeking its own salvation (I wonder if humans would have had the same level of compassion!).
This book should change your life. If it doesn't then your mind must be very closed, indeed.
- Do no harm is the essence of this book. It provides colorful insight into the real emotional lives of various animals. The author used a wide variety of sources, & field observations from wildlife biologists. The section on neurobiology were the most interesting for me. The fact that animals share several of our neural structures for emotion came as no surprise to this lay person. I have always felt {& have been bashed plenty for it}, that animals often represent the better half of human nature that we sometimes submerge. Dogs, Reptiles, Monkeys, Rats, Moon Bears, Whales & Elephants are all here. The latter are probably the most fascinating creatures in the book? The authors advocacy for animals was very refreshing to this animal lover. His basic thesis gives us a crucial point, "that if we are not certain about an animals emotions, we should presume that they often feel exactly what we humans do." For that compassionate view I had to up my four star impression to a hearty five.
- wonderful exploration of cognitive ethology. Beckoff is not afraid to explore the sensitive side of the animal kingdom and use hard science to draw dynamic and bold conclusions that any animal lover knows to be true.
