4 comments about The Click That Does The Trick: Trick Training Your Bird The Clicker Way.

  1. Excellent book. Very easy to follow instructions on training parrots to do tricks. Well worth the money. Here's hoping I can follow through with my training techniques.

  2. This is an excellent book for the beginner to expert parrot owner. It breaks down fun behaviors in to easy to understand steps. A fantastic resource for any parrot owner who is looking to enrich their parrot's life and build a trusting bond with their parrot through training. This is a book that I regularly recommend to my clients.

  3. Clicker training all sorts of different animals has become very popular over the last few years. There are several books out on clicker training dogs, but The Click That Does The Trick by Robin Deutsch give instructions and ideas for clicker training birds.

Robin starts off with the basics - understanding your bird, how birds may interpret the training process and how to use the clicker in training.

Robin indicates that the first step is to condition your bird to the clicker. After that you can start training simple tricks. Robin gives several suggestions for tricks and for each one she indicates how easy or complicated it is as well as the size of bird that it will work best for.

When first introducing a new trick, Robin tells us that each small step must be rewarded. She stresses that it is very important that every training session ends on a happy note.

Some of the tricks require props, so Robin then gives instructions on how to make these props.

Time and patience are a requirement whenever you set out to train your bird. If you have the time and patience and want to spend some quality time with your bird, you will find great ideas to help you in this book.

  4. The Click That Does The Trick is an easy-to-use guide especially for exotic bird owners looking to train their pets to perform a wide variety of tricks, using a clicker as a training tool. From simple tricks such as extending or flapping wings, to more advanced or prop-related tricks such as playing dead in the owner's hands or ringing a bell, to advanced tricks like riding a scooter or using props to perform imitations of popular sports, The Click That Does The Trick walks the reader through a step-by-step process with explicit instructions and full-color photographs. The Click That Does The Trick emphasizes that exotic birds, from parrots are not fully domesticated animals like modern cats and dogs, and cannot be handled in precisely the same way due to their very strong natural instincts. Training must never force or frighten the bird, should be kept fun, and not all birds are suited to perform all tricks. A final section aids the reader in creating bird-sized props for the more elaborate prop-based tricks. Highly recommended for any bird owner interested in becoming better acquainted with his or her pet through training, and possibly even giving small performances to delight friends and family.

3 comments about Bearded Dragon (Success with a Reptile Pet).

  1. This book is great for beginners just starting out with keeping beardies. Well-illustrated with many beautiful photographs. Easy to understand and covers the basics of each aspect of keeping dragons. Fantastic and detailed info on feeding. This book is a great companion for the other book I purchased called "The Bearded Dragon Manual" by Philippe De Vosjoli.

  2. This book offers lots of info on the care, health, and maintenence of bearded dragons. Also, it is a very specific guide for feeding, tank setup, breeding, incubator setup, and raising hatchlings. This book also points out the behavioural characteristics of bearded dragons and what they are "saying" to you or another bearded dragon. I found the courtship section to be most helpful when my boyfriend and I wanted to see if our beardies would co-habitate in a friendly manner. This book has photographs of different color phases of bearded dragons, and would make a great coffee table book.

  3. I have a bearded dragon named Mojove, she is very healthy and strong . I have decided to breed bearded dragons , I still have lots to learn but this book helped me alot. It explained the basics of breeding to the very complicated things like building an incubator. My favorite thing about this book was the photography, it showed everything about bearded dragons. Mothers burrowing eggs, different breeds of bearded dragons etc... . I love bearded dragons, mine is my pride and joy , this book helped me understand the habits and thinking of bearded dragons. It explained diet for bearded dragons and their mating behaviors, their housing and how to raise baby beardies. I highly recomend this book &, a bearded dragon. Thanks a lot! P.s- Leonardo Dicaprio owns a beardie named Blizz.

1 comments about The Guide to Owning a Miniature Schnauzer (Re Dog Series).

  1. This book gives good insight into what you can look forward to when owning a mini of your own. I had my schnauzer for 11 years from when I was 8 to 19. My sweet dog had to be put to sleep because of health problems though. In tribute to him I can say that owning a schnauzer will greatly imrpove the quality of your life. Read this book, learn what to expect, then go out and get a mini of your own and enjoy the never ending love that this dog will bring you.

2 comments about Starting the Colt.

  1. Very informative, easy to understand and implement the techniques described to train yourself as well as the horse!
Mary Twelveponies goes into detail how to handle a horse mentally, what proper tack to use and what not to use, the very important use of ground work, riding and the do's and dont's of, etc. Excellent for beginners to help them to learn about horsemanship.

  2. Mary Twelveponies is a master of the tried and true horse training philosophy: There are no shortcuts. A good start on a young horse can overcome most challenges he'll face later on. Chapter 14 of "Starting the Colt" is devoted to the proper use of the Bosal, or "Jacima." Her research of the origins and applications of the Bosal are top notch. The explanations are clear and easy to understand.
For a horseman who's interested in training with a Hackamore, this book is a must. No matter which discipline of horsemanship you choose, her books are the manual you can trust.

2 comments about Papillon (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).

  1. I have owned five senior "rescue Paps" in the past six years. Now I have a 15 month old puppy and a nine year old Pap who had been the alpha dog, but that was before we got our baby. This is like nothing I have experienced before or in many, many years...its like having a baby whose every action depends on me. To say she's a joy is to put it mildly, she's a nuisance, but I love it and having this book as my handy reference has been a life saver. I have had seniors in the past who just joined the household, but this tiny little Pap whose energy is almost overwhelming.. . and this book have helped when I wondered if I had done the right thing.

  2. This is quite a good book if you are completely new to the breed and plan to read other books as well... There are some factual mistakes (like when the author describes the Phalène-variation of the breed - completely wrong) but there are also some good general information. I wouldn't recommend it though. There are other books better to read (the Complete Papillon) for those interested in these wonderful toy dogs.

5 comments about Joe Taylor's Complete Guide to Breeding and Raising Racehorses.

  1. He offers a real world perspective on the breeding of thoroughbreds. His advice on facilities maintenance is extremely useful as are his insights into the bloodstock markets.

  2. This is a book to live by, for the novice or the experienced. Mr. Taylor covers everthing you need to know from buying your land to dressing a foals legs. A must have.

  3. Really like this one. Has important information and opinions for the novice and expert alike. It covers a range of subjects and contains great advice for those entertaining any equine endeavors.

  4. Few of us have been priviliged to learn the horse business from the dawn of conscious thought the way Joe Taylor was. If you want to know How and Why about any part of the breeding, care, feeding and selling of horses, this is the man take as teacher and authority!

  5. Have read this book more times than I can count. If you have any interest in raising horses for profit, this is it. Tells it like it really is, what works, what does not.
